All Moms need to read this

Please click over to read this article!  As a marriage and parenting coach, I observe/hear what she is writing about a lot and I think it is very true for many women.   Women are comparing themselves to an impossible and false image. I try really hard to balance this blog with our real life (which is not always neat and pretty--like the garage and my bedside table and illnesses and stressful photo shoots and my struggles with the kids and the day I lost them in the park) and the pretty and fun moments (birthday parties, Christmas, Disney World and beach vacations).  No family is perfect.  I sincerely hope that I  don't give the impression that we are doing it all right here in the peanut house.  Because most days our house is messy, a kid is talking back to me and I am scrambling to figure out something for dinner.  I try really hard but I fail EVERY SINGLE DAY in some way.  Remember, love is messy. We are all just trying to do the best we can.

I know I said I'd be back with more Easter photos and more Spring things I love but Dave has been out of town (comes home today!) and I ran into some rocks/landscaping on a median scraping up my car and slashing my tire.  And really, I have been hanging with my kids.  The weather is gorgeous and we have been outside riding bikes, walking the dog, rip sticking (Harry fell and hurt his head) and drawing with sidewalk chalk!

P.S.  Thank you to my friend Shana for sending me the link to that article!

Another P.S.  Thank you SO much for all your sweet words on that Easter photo. Y'all made me blush. I have something to share about it in my next post.

  1. Great article Kim! I knew there was a reason I have not gotten into Pinterest! One more distraction I don't need or have time for right now! I keep reminding myself there will be a season... I am glad to know that some of my favorite Mom's on the planet fail like I do every day!!! This is the most humbling job I have ever had! Sorry about your car, and Harry's fall. I hope he is OK! You're a great Mom! That is for sure!

    Hugs,
    Di

  4. I really like this...."Wherever you are...be all there". I really LOVE that! I think I will put a sticky note on my computer with that quote. Often because we are "where we are" and I get so terribly lonely, I tend to cling to the outside world through fb or blogs. Thank you for posting this my friend. Sorry about the car and Harry...poor Harry:) Love ya friend!

  5. Thanks for sharing this! As a mama to be, I already find myself striving to design the perfect nursery, get him adorable outfits, plan the perfect christening. I need to remember that none of it matters, all he needs is a loving mom and dad!

  6. I loved reading this blog post - what a good reminder! Especially for me...who until I had all these children thought I was competent!

  7. Great link, Kim. I love this reminder! Just to test out the theory, I asked my 7 year old daughter how she might 'improve' me, honestly, if she could. After thinking for a moment, she said the only thing she could think of was she'd "like me to do a better job of staying awake during family movie night!" That was it. I got a big hug and kiss too!

  9. Just back from a spring break trip and feel like the house is mess, laundry everywhere and slightly overwhelmed and wondering how so many others do it so well and make it all look so easy! Thanks for sharing!

  10. your BEST post thus far!! So hard to admit we are not perfect isn't it.. you especially are so hard on yourself..you always apologize for out of focus pictures, lighting etc.. when they are ALL absoulutely beautiful and the way you talk about your children..beautiful.. we all need to swallow up the articles advice.

  11. Beautiful article!! I think we as Moms all have felt that "not quite good enough" at times. I think some days I fail at "getting it right", but I'm reassured that I'm ONLY human especially when my girl says "It's okay Mommy, I love you ANYWAY"!! That puts it all in perspective!!

  13. Kim,

Thank you for the great article. I needed that today. It's so hard when your a working mom. I struggle with my decision everyday. I'm trying to figure out how I can be a stay at home mom so I can spend more time with my angel. She is growing up so quickly. I'm afraid one of these days I will wake up and she will be going off to college.

The most important thing is to do the best you can and not try to be perfect at everything you do. Sometimes good enough is good enough. It is a hard lesson, but I'm still working on living and learning.

    Thanks for sharing.

  16. I didn't comment right away but wanted you to know the print this post left on my head and my heart. So many times through the weekend I said to myself, "All they want is you". As I walked with Grace holding her hand and chatting. As I fumbled making dinner. The times I replaced self criticism with "all they want is you" I felt joy. I felt peace. I felt in the moment. And each time I thanked you for sharing this post with us.

    Thank you Kim!
