The Taco Truck

Thursday, March 1, 2012
I am really behind on my Lenten project this week.  I am busy with work and quite frankly I have ZERO motivation to clean out these two spaces.  So, I find any opportunity to do something else (even exercise!) Take this post for example.  I really ought to be upstairs finishing the computer nook and working on the playroom/media room.  But no, I wanted to post about the Taco Truck.  Cause, really, I think you'll be interested in the Taco Truck.

Most people have an ice cream truck that comes through their neighborhood, right?  Not us (although one does park at the grade school everyday and makes me bananas!).  But every day around lunch I hear the jaunty little horn tune announcing the arrival of this....

I have never seen any actual residents eat from the taco truck but the construction workers do!  I'll confess that I have been tempted to give it a try;) There is a lot of new home construction in our neighborhood.  People are tearing down the little homes to build big homes so there are always lots of workers around.

Do you have a Taco Truck?

{In the interest of full disclosure, I took this photo of the taco truck in January of 09.  Yup, three years ago.  It sill comes down my street daily but I think it has been re-painted since I took this photo. I have been saving this photo for 3 years wanting to do a post about it. Do you think I procrastinate much? }

Okay...now I'll go work on my 40 bags!

  1. No I never have heard a taco truck coming into neighborhoods either perhaps because of the construction. If I were you, I would give it a try. You never know it could be wonderful.

  2. We do not have a taco truck, unfortunately, but we do have the ice cream truck. If ours parked at the children's school I would designate myself security over that until they left. That would send me to the moon too and it's just creepy.
Funny thing about these little hole in the wall type places, they sometimes have the most delicious food. A couple of friends and I used to go down to Tiajuana, Mexico on the weekends to go surfing and we would always stop at this little taco stand (and I mean STAND literally, there was no place to sit) and they would make the most wonderful carne asada tacos for you. They would keep handing them to you until you said, "No mas" and then they would tell you how much you owed them, which was never more than $3.00. I have the world's most finicky stomach and I never once got sick or had any other tummy issues from that place. So my advice is, give the taco truck a try and hope for the best.

  4. okay we do not have a taco truck in our neighborhood.....but if we did I would weigh 500 lbs because I would eat it! But in Dallas and Ft.Worth we have the food truck parks.....well let me just tell you that next time you visit our fair cities please look up these parks because the food is AMAZING!!!! We love to go and the trucks rotate so you are never really sure what trucks will be there. I love the Nam Nam truck, Jakes burgers, 3 Crazy sisters street tacos, the cupcake truck. Hayden LOVES to go and if we have friend from out of town visit Hayden always suggest that we take them to the food trucks!!! Seriously good food.

We are also doing the 40 bags in 40 days....feels so good to purge and feels even better to get my house back to an organized state and clutter free!!!

  6. We have Taco Truck(s) in our neighborhood. They actually park on certain corners and even set up tables for the customers to sit at. They are always full of people, so I am assuming they are good. However, I've never been brave enough to stop and try one.

  7. Here in California we have taco trucks everywhere, even two on a corner w/ picnic tables to eat at. They are so yummy and inexpensive. Be brave you won't regret it!

  8. You have to eat at a taco truck. It is by far the best food and super cheap. It is like eating on the street corner of NYC. Delicious! We live in Washington, DC and the trucks are all over the place. If one has a long line, you know it is tasty! Our favorite truck was so popular that after 2 years, he was able to open up a take out spot in a shopping center. Excellent! You and your boys will love the taco truck!!!

  13. We have a taco truck in little Knoxville, TN. It set up shop in one location for all of the construction workers to come to it. We had a terrible hail storm last April and over 200,000 home had to have major repairs. After almost a year that taco truck has major business everyday!! I have been too scared to try it. Maybe I should!!!

  14. I wish we had a taco truck! Nothing like that here in my suburb of Brisbane (Australia). We don't even have an ice cream truck. There was one (that sold boxed ice creams etc) which used to cruise down the street I lived in when I had a newborn, and stop outside and ring the bell. I had to call the company and ask them to quit it as it always happened to be just after I'd managed to get the baby (now 6) to sleep. They were very helpful and I never heard that bell again!

  15. Oh you should try the tacos! I bet they are awesome. There's a show on the Food channel about gourmet food trucks. They are like the new cupcake. All the rage.

  16. My mouth is watering at the thought of a taco truck!

  17. Um....truth be told I am glad we don't. It could become a habit. I love tacos and Mexican food. Yum.... I have heard that some of the food from these trucks is outrageously good. I remember on the Food Network they did taste testing, and they were bowled over by how good some of the food coming from these trucks were!

  18. Too funny...does a woman in a tube top serve the tacos as the illustration on the truck suggests? :)

  19. We have taco trucks in Greenville, SC. I would never eat from them until one parked at our office building and HR announced that employees could go eat. So I did, and boy was it yummy! I say give it a try.

  22. Hi Kim! In the spirit of food trucks- the most amazing hot dog trucks came to St. Mark's. They even make their own ketchup and mustards! Let's grab Kate and Lucy and make a day of it. We'd love to see you guys. xxoo-Kristen

  24. Just think about it: When you are on your death bed, I'll bet you will be thinking "I'm sure glad I took the time to post about that taco truck. Now I can die happy!!" And you won't have any regrets whatsoever that you had procrastinated about cleaning out that computer nook.

  25. i grew up in mexico and they will park along the street at my university. many students like me, will eat breakfast, lunch and diner there. And nope, you eat standing up, never sitting down  they make the most authentic machaca (egg and shreddred pork burrito) for breakfast, tacos al pastor (pork), carne asada (grilled beef), lengua (cow's tongue) and even sesos (tripe?). no, i never tried the last one but my friends did :-). These days, I can find them outside at flea markets or mexican neighborhood. They are very friendly and they know how to feed you. You should try some day but I will stick with the carne asada or shredded pork. My stomach is not like it used to be  enjoy!

  27. We have a lot of taco trucks in Nashville. Some of them don't move around but Mas Tacos uses Twitter to publicize their locations as they travel. I know that some of them have a big following in the country music community.

  30. Can I tell you how jealous I am of your taco truck? I love Chicago. Really, truly love it but we can not find decent Mexican food here to save our lives. And a taco truck? Not a chance. We do sometimes see a cupcake truck but they only sell their cupcakes in the city. They just store their truck in a neighboring town. I think you definitely need to buy a taco!
