Most people have an ice cream truck that comes through their neighborhood, right? Not us (although one does park at the grade school everyday and makes me bananas!). But every day around lunch I hear the jaunty little horn tune announcing the arrival of this....
I have never seen any actual residents eat from the taco truck but the construction workers do! I'll confess that I have been tempted to give it a try;) There is a lot of new home construction in our neighborhood. People are tearing down the little homes to build big homes so there are always lots of workers around.
Do you have a Taco Truck?
{In the interest of full disclosure, I took this photo of the taco truck in January of 09. Yup, three years ago. It sill comes down my street daily but I think it has been re-painted since I took this photo. I have been saving this photo for 3 years wanting to do a post about it. Do you think I procrastinate much? }
Okay...now I'll go work on my 40 bags!
No I never have heard a taco truck coming into neighborhoods either perhaps because of the construction. If I were you, I would give it a try. You never know it could be wonderful.
ReplyDeleteWe do not have a taco truck, unfortunately, but we do have the ice cream truck. If ours parked at the children's school I would designate myself security over that until they left. That would send me to the moon too and it's just creepy.
ReplyDeleteFunny thing about these little hole in the wall type places, they sometimes have the most delicious food. A couple of friends and I used to go down to Tiajuana, Mexico on the weekends to go surfing and we would always stop at this little taco stand (and I mean STAND literally, there was no place to sit) and they would make the most wonderful carne asada tacos for you. They would keep handing them to you until you said, "No mas" and then they would tell you how much you owed them, which was never more than $3.00. I have the world's most finicky stomach and I never once got sick or had any other tummy issues from that place. So my advice is, give the taco truck a try and hope for the best.
Susan,
DeleteThank you for sharing your fun story!! You may have just encouraged me to be brave!
We have a taco truck! though ours parks down in "little mexico" as its called its really just South O. But my friend goes there a lot cause she lives down there, and she always says that they have the best tacos ever! hopefully this summer when there's more time to hang out and visit places me and her and our other friend will finally get to experience the wonders of the Taco truck (:
ReplyDeleteokay we do not have a taco truck in our neighborhood.....but if we did I would weigh 500 lbs because I would eat it! But in Dallas and Ft.Worth we have the food truck parks.....well let me just tell you that next time you visit our fair cities please look up these parks because the food is AMAZING!!!! We love to go and the trucks rotate so you are never really sure what trucks will be there. I love the Nam Nam truck, Jakes burgers, 3 Crazy sisters street tacos, the cupcake truck. Hayden LOVES to go and if we have friend from out of town visit Hayden always suggest that we take them to the food trucks!!! Seriously good food.
ReplyDeleteWe are also doing the 40 bags in 40 days....feels so good to purge and feels even better to get my house back to an organized state and clutter free!!!
Oh yeah we have a TACO TRUCK!! Ours in our town is stationary and oh boy does it attract the customers! I have never tried it, but my husband commuted to Houston daily years ago for work and he all he talked about was THE TACO TRUCK!! When it first appeared in our town (about 2yrs ago) he was so excited!! He has encouraged me to give it a try, but still I hesitant!!
ReplyDelete"I'm hesitant"
ReplyDeleteWe have Taco Truck(s) in our neighborhood. They actually park on certain corners and even set up tables for the customers to sit at. They are always full of people, so I am assuming they are good. However, I've never been brave enough to stop and try one.
ReplyDeleteHere in California we have taco trucks everywhere, even two on a corner w/ picnic tables to eat at. They are so yummy and inexpensive. Be brave you won't regret it!
ReplyDeleteYou have to eat at a taco truck. It is by far the best food and super cheap. It is like eating on the street corner of NYC. Delicious! We live in Washington, DC and the trucks are all over the place. If one has a long line, you know it is tasty! Our favorite truck was so popular that after 2 years, he was able to open up a take out spot in a shopping center. Excellent! You and your boys will love the taco truck!!!
ReplyDeleteOh my word! I would totally trade our creepy ice cream truck for a taco truck! I love, love, love Mexican food and especially walking tacos! You must try it out and report back to us nosy Nellies!
ReplyDeleteTaco trucks are delicious! We live in Washington, DC and they are all over the place. If one has a long line than you know it is tasty! Some of the best meals are off the streets like in NYC and the streets of DC. Try it! I bet your boys will love it!
ReplyDeleteOh how I wish we had a taco truck.
ReplyDeleteWe have a Taco Truck that comes to work...it's a huge hit with folks. I will admit that I've not tried it but I just may after reading some of the comments!
ReplyDeleteWanna trade stories about who procrastinates more- me or you? I bet we could go on and on for hours...
Hugs!
We have a taco truck in little Knoxville, TN. It set up shop in one location for all of the construction workers to come to it. We had a terrible hail storm last April and over 200,000 home had to have major repairs. After almost a year that taco truck has major business everyday!! I have been too scared to try it. Maybe I should!!!
ReplyDeleteI wish we had a taco truck! Nothing like that here in my suburb of Brisbane (Australia). We don't even have an ice cream truck. There was one (that sold boxed ice creams etc) which used to cruise down the street I lived in when I had a newborn, and stop outside and ring the bell. I had to call the company and ask them to quit it as it always happened to be just after I'd managed to get the baby (now 6) to sleep. They were very helpful and I never heard that bell again!
ReplyDeleteOh you should try the tacos! I bet they are awesome. There's a show on the Food channel about gourmet food trucks. They are like the new cupcake. All the rage.
ReplyDeleteMy mouth is watering at the thought of a taco truck!
ReplyDeleteI say ... be adventurous. Go for it. And then report back.
I know it will be YUMMY!
Um....truth be told I am glad we don't. It could become a habit. I love tacos and Mexican food. Yum.... I have heard that some of the food from these trucks is outrageously good. I remember on the Food Network they did taste testing, and they were bowled over by how good some of the food coming from these trucks were!
ReplyDeleteToo funny...does a woman in a tube top serve the tacos as the illustration on the truck suggests? :)
ReplyDeleteWe have taco trucks in Greenville, SC. I would never eat from them until one parked at our office building and HR announced that employees could go eat. So I did, and boy was it yummy! I say give it a try.
ReplyDeleteWe have a 'mongolian bbq taco truck' down near my son's school .. in a gas station parking lot. Um ... I think you can guess that, NO I have never stopped to get a bit ;)!!!
ReplyDeleteTough call....I am certain the tacos on that truck are delicioso!!!!! BUT we don't eat from street vendors here because if we do we get sick....just sayin' :) But yes...it is good!
ReplyDeleteHi Kim! In the spirit of food trucks- the most amazing hot dog trucks came to St. Mark's. They even make their own ketchup and mustards! Let's grab Kate and Lucy and make a day of it. We'd love to see you guys. xxoo-Kristen
ReplyDeleteKristen, we would LOVE to get together. Not sure if I have your new contact info. since your move. Will try to contact you!!
DeleteNow...if they had Churros on that truck...run quickly towards the truck and buy lots of gooey yummy churros!
ReplyDeleteYummy. But that would not be good for me. i am trying to "lose" weight!
DeleteJust think about it: When you are on your death bed, I'll bet you will be thinking "I'm sure glad I took the time to post about that taco truck. Now I can die happy!!" And you won't have any regrets whatsoever that you had procrastinated about cleaning out that computer nook.
ReplyDeleteFrom another mother of a daughter from China.
Thank you so much for making me laugh. And you are right....I will never regret not cleaning that nook:)
Deletei grew up in mexico and they will park along the street at my university. many students like me, will eat breakfast, lunch and diner there. And nope, you eat standing up, never sitting down they make the most authentic machaca (egg and shreddred pork burrito) for breakfast, tacos al pastor (pork), carne asada (grilled beef), lengua (cow's tongue) and even sesos (tripe?). no, i never tried the last one but my friends did :-). These days, I can find them outside at flea markets or mexican neighborhood. They are very friendly and they know how to feed you. You should try some day but I will stick with the carne asada or shredded pork. My stomach is not like it used to be enjoy!
ReplyDeletelilly
What fun! I know Miss Maddy would love to see a taco truck!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
We have a lot of taco trucks in Nashville. Some of them don't move around but Mas Tacos uses Twitter to publicize their locations as they travel. I know that some of them have a big following in the country music community.
ReplyDeleteWe don't even have an ice cream truck on our street--would love to see that Taco truck swing by!! What fun!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWe don't even have an ice cream truck come down our street---would love to see that Taco truck swing by!!! What fun!!!!
ReplyDeleteCan I tell you how jealous I am of your taco truck? I love Chicago. Really, truly love it but we can not find decent Mexican food here to save our lives. And a taco truck? Not a chance. We do sometimes see a cupcake truck but they only sell their cupcakes in the city. They just store their truck in a neighboring town. I think you definitely need to buy a taco!
