Times when it is NOT good to be diagnosed with strep throat...

~the day after a car accident.

~when you are at the doctor for a car accident shivering with chills and the worst body aches and a sore throat.

~when your kids have parent-teacher conferences and will be home from school the next day.

~when you cannot even fathom going to parent-teacher conferences because it hurts to swallow your own saliva (and you are likely contagious).

~when your husband just started a new job and cannot take time off to help.

~when all you feel like doing is laying in bed (which is even painful) and watching TV but oh yes...that's right...you don't have TV.

~when you wold love to lay in bed and catch up on all your bloggy friends but alas...no internet either.

~when you have just moved to a new city and do not have any babysitters yet that your kids will stay with (Kate really).

~Right after a major hurricane that still has you recovering.

I am trying to be humorous here.  I am trying to laugh at all of this.  I am trying to make you all feel better about your days:) Oh and one of the possible side effects of my medicine is a "black hairy tongue."

Why do I have a feeling I am going to get that side effect?

Now for the good news....for the first time in 3 weeks (due to hurricane Ike)...Kate is at school this morning.  She cried but I had to leave.  When I peeked in on her, the teacher was holding her and she looked like she was calm. So, I can go home and curl up and read a magazine for an hour or so until I pick her up.

I think our home inspections went well yesterday and I think we'll be in our new house in about 3-4 weeks!

My blog friend (and we chatted on the phone several months ago during a tough time for her) is finally back!  GO say hello to Anne at Hemstitch and Hydrangea! Anne I am so proud of how you have brought yourself and Jack through such a hard time.

One of my sweet friends, Michelle went to get my prescriptions and soup for me yesterday afternoon since I was too sick.  Thank you!

I just KNOW things are looking up here soon!  I just KNOW it!

Any movie rental suggestions?

  2. Oh no!!!!

That is terrible. The worst timing ever. I am praying for a speedy recovery and hope you feel much better soon.

  3. The only movies I can suggest are ones that I got to with my kids, so I'm no help there - unless of course
"Camp Rock" is something you'd be interested in. Hate that you've got so much going on and strep throat has taken hold - I had it 7 years ago and still remember how horrible I felt. I hope the meds really help you get you through it quickly. I got a penicillin shot in the rump and my throat was almost good as new in 24 hours... my rump took a bit longer.

  4. Oh Kim, my heart is with you.

    Movies I enjoy are:
    You've Got Mail
    Miss. Potter
    Howard's End
    French Kiss (Meg Ryan again)

Wish I could help out in some way...
    Hugs and blessings.

  8. Oh my! I am sorry you are not feeling well! And on top of a car accident. Curling up with with soup and a movie sounds like the perfect medicine.

Congratulations on the house! What a fun thing to look forward to!!

  11. oh my goodness, when it rains it pours. Strep is going around here in Dallas....my girlfriends kids have been home all week. So lets keep our fingers crossed that your kids don't get it too.

Sending you good thoughts and a hope for a quick recovery. Hoping that things get back on the right track soon. We all get bogged down with "stuff" but it does always get better....lets hope yours is sooner rather than later:)

PS. I love you, Dan in Real Life was awesome, Baby Mama was really funny, but laughing might hurt.

Take care, and feel better soon.

  12. Oh my gosh. Cr*p has certainly rained down on you lately! So sorry to hear about the latest. The good news is that strep usually responds to antibiotics pretty quickly. Glad to hear that the new house will become your home in less than a month.

Movies: I loved Juno and Knocked Up--alas not for when the kids are around!

  13. Kim,
    There are truly no words....

Somewhere in all of this, is a lesson, a message, a story... But, I just can't see it clearly. Thankfully, your sense of humor is still in tact!!!! Now, that is a praise!

UGH and I am so sorry are the only eloquent things I can think of to say...

I wish I was there to pick up Kate from school, and keep her all afternoon for you!

    Hugs,
    Di

  15. Oh I hope this is the 24 hour kind...or is there even a 24 hour strep throat? I'm so sorry! I loved your post though...hang in there..."That which doesn't kill us, makes us stronger!"~ from my top pick for a movie..."Steel Magnolias". Always good for a laugh or a cry or both!
    Feel better soon,

  16. I hope you know that even in your misery you made me laugh! Black hairy tounge? Yikes! I work in the pharmaceutical industry and can't even begin to think of what could cause that. Let's pray that fate does not befall you...although, it could really top off a wearwolf costume. OK, I'm through making light of your situation.

I find the best movies for these situations are comedies. One of my all time favorites is Forget Paris with Billy Chrystal and Debra Winger. Funny Stuff! I hope you feel better soon and get settled in your new home, that looks beautiful by the way.

Thanks for making a complete stranger laugh out loud today!

  34. Wow. I am so sorry! I have been dying to send a package to you guys (a feel happy package) but I don't have your new address. I hope you get better soon! This is an extreme case of "when it rains it POURS!" I pray you get healthy and strong again soon. There is nothing worse than being sick and having to take care of others. The best rental movie of ALL time is "The Scarlet Pimpernel" with Jane Seymour. Other good ones are "The Man who knew to little" with Bill Murray and "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" with Steve Martin. I don't think there is anything funnier than Steve Martin in this role. I hope your family gets to move in your lovely new home soon! Love to you all from Utah! Lisa :)

  40. Kim,

I've been on the blog sidelines for a long time and have always enjoyed reading your blog but have never commented. In fact, I had never commented on ANY blog until I started my own very recently and realized how nice it is for people to leave messages. So I thought that I would stop by and say hi and I really hope and pray you are feeling better VERY soon!

  42. I am so sorry you are sick- there is hardly anything worse than strep- I hate the feeling of needing to swallow but fighting it so hard because it will hurt so bad. And being the mom makes it a million times worse- how do things go on? I sure hope you will feel better soon! Usually the meds kick in pretty quick! Take care and rest!

I really, really wish I lived closer so that I could run over and physically lend a hand. However, I will continue to pray that this very unpleasant chapter is put behind you VERY soon. Like NOW!

Movies? I suggest a comedy. laughter may be the best medicine...or does it hurt when you laugh? Oh, you poor thing.

  59. Whoa... Kim, things will surely be looking up soon. As for movies, I just watched "Definitely, Maybe", "Little Women" & "Baby Mama" on my trip with girlfriends. They were all good. I love "P.S., I love you" (GREAT CLOTHES!) & "Father of The Bride" (GREAT HOUSE!). HOpe you get better. And a black hairy tongue? Well, I hope that you must not endure that too, but if it should happen, will you please do a blog post about it? ;) All the best, Erin
