Times when it is NOT good to be diagnosed with strep throat...
~the day after a car accident.
~when you are at the doctor for a car accident shivering with chills and the worst body aches and a sore throat.
~when your kids have parent-teacher conferences and will be home from school the next day.
~when you cannot even fathom going to parent-teacher conferences because it hurts to swallow your own saliva (and you are likely contagious).
~when your husband just started a new job and cannot take time off to help.
~when all you feel like doing is laying in bed (which is even painful) and watching TV but oh yes...that's right...you don't have TV.
~when you wold love to lay in bed and catch up on all your bloggy friends but alas...no internet either.
~when you have just moved to a new city and do not have any babysitters yet that your kids will stay with (Kate really).
~Right after a major hurricane that still has you recovering.
I am trying to be humorous here. I am trying to laugh at all of this. I am trying to make you all feel better about your days:) Oh and one of the possible side effects of my medicine is a "black hairy tongue."
Why do I have a feeling I am going to get that side effect?
Now for the good news....for the first time in 3 weeks (due to hurricane Ike)...Kate is at school this morning. She cried but I had to leave. When I peeked in on her, the teacher was holding her and she looked like she was calm. So, I can go home and curl up and read a magazine for an hour or so until I pick her up.
I think our home inspections went well yesterday and I think we'll be in our new house in about 3-4 weeks!
My blog friend (and we chatted on the phone several months ago during a tough time for her) is finally back! GO say hello to Anne at Hemstitch and Hydrangea! Anne I am so proud of how you have brought yourself and Jack through such a hard time.
One of my sweet friends, Michelle went to get my prescriptions and soup for me yesterday afternoon since I was too sick. Thank you!
I just KNOW things are looking up here soon! I just KNOW it!
Any movie rental suggestions?
Oh my goodness. You poor thing. I truly hope that things start to turn around soon. Hang in there.
ReplyDeleteOh no!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is terrible. The worst timing ever. I am praying for a speedy recovery and hope you feel much better soon.
Hugs.
The only movies I can suggest are ones that I got to with my kids, so I'm no help there - unless of course
ReplyDelete"Camp Rock" is something you'd be interested in. Hate that you've got so much going on and strep throat has taken hold - I had it 7 years ago and still remember how horrible I felt. I hope the meds really help you get you through it quickly. I got a penicillin shot in the rump and my throat was almost good as new in 24 hours... my rump took a bit longer.
Oh Kim, my heart is with you.
ReplyDeleteMovies I enjoy are:
You've Got Mail
Miss. Potter
Howard's End
French Kiss (Meg Ryan again)
Wish I could help out in some way...
Hugs and blessings.
I'm praying for you!!!!! You are very inspiring as you keep your chin up despite your tough times lately! : )
ReplyDeleteCould it get worse??? We better not ask :) I am so sorry you are sick, AND I really hope you dont get the "hairy black tongue"...not a good look with pearls amd a cardogan :)
ReplyDeleteBig hug and hope you feel better soon!
A sense of humor- important but pretty tough given what you are going through. It's like- ENOUGH already!! Your family needs a break!! Movie rentals- I just saw P.S. I Love You and thought it was sweet. :) Feel better soon, Kim!
ReplyDeleteOh my! I am sorry you are not feeling well! And on top of a car accident. Curling up with with soup and a movie sounds like the perfect medicine.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the house! What a fun thing to look forward to!!
You poor, sweet thing ... my thoughts are with you. I am sure there are sunnier days ahead! :-)
ReplyDeletehugs.
Michelle
This too shall pass. Hang in there Kim...soon you'll have a new house to decorate and get settled into. Hope you're feeling better soon. Hugs :)
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness, when it rains it pours. Strep is going around here in Dallas....my girlfriends kids have been home all week. So lets keep our fingers crossed that your kids don't get it too.
ReplyDeleteSending you good thoughts and a hope for a quick recovery. Hoping that things get back on the right track soon. We all get bogged down with "stuff" but it does always get better....lets hope yours is sooner rather than later:)
PS. I love you, Dan in Real Life was awesome, Baby Mama was really funny, but laughing might hurt.
Take care, and feel better soon.
Oh my gosh. Cr*p has certainly rained down on you lately! So sorry to hear about the latest. The good news is that strep usually responds to antibiotics pretty quickly. Glad to hear that the new house will become your home in less than a month.
ReplyDeleteMovies: I loved Juno and Knocked Up--alas not for when the kids are around!
Kim,
ReplyDeleteThere are truly no words....
Somewhere in all of this, is a lesson, a message, a story... But, I just can't see it clearly. Thankfully, your sense of humor is still in tact!!!! Now, that is a praise!
UGH and I am so sorry are the only eloquent things I can think of to say...
I wish I was there to pick up Kate from school, and keep her all afternoon for you!
Hugs,
Di
Oh my goodness. When it rains it pours...so let's hope when it's sunny your life is more tropical! Hang in there and take care of yourself.
ReplyDeleteOh I hope this is the 24 hour kind...or is there even a 24 hour strep throat? I'm so sorry! I loved your post though...hang in there..."That which doesn't kill us, makes us stronger!"~ from my top pick for a movie..."Steel Magnolias". Always good for a laugh or a cry or both!
ReplyDeleteFeel better soon,
Kam
I hope you know that even in your misery you made me laugh! Black hairy tounge? Yikes! I work in the pharmaceutical industry and can't even begin to think of what could cause that. Let's pray that fate does not befall you...although, it could really top off a wearwolf costume. OK, I'm through making light of your situation.
ReplyDeleteI find the best movies for these situations are comedies. One of my all time favorites is Forget Paris with Billy Chrystal and Debra Winger. Funny Stuff! I hope you feel better soon and get settled in your new home, that looks beautiful by the way.
Thanks for making a complete stranger laugh out loud today!
Oh you poor ol' thing!! How awful! It just doesn't stop!!!
ReplyDeleteI wish we lived closer. I'd take your kids for a giant sleepover so you could rest up! My two would love it!! LOL
Hang in there, Kim. Here's to a speedy recovery!!!!!
Snick, Sunshine and Brill
So sorry kim-- when it rains it pours and it looks like you are soaking wet!!!
ReplyDeleteI hope you feel better but I am sure as soon as you are in your beautiful new home that things will really start looking up.

oh Kim my goodness!
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry!!!! I wish I was closer to help with daily stuff, yikes! Please don't say you will get the hairy tongue thing, ok!;)I know the antibiotics will kick in quick. I pray you feel better fast. It is so hard to be the mommy sometimes... Sometimes we need our mommy;)
Hope you are feeling much better soon! I laughed out loud about the "black hairy tongue". . . sorry :)
ReplyDeleteTake care of yourself and hope to hear good news about the house soon!
Oh you poor thing... :(
ReplyDeleteWe will continue to pray for all you are going through. But I think I might have to kick it up a notch in the prayer department that you do not get "black hairy tongue." WHAT.IS.UP.WITH THAT?
Hang in there. Try to make the most of your "down time." And keep an eye on that tongue.I'm just sayin'. :)
Hugs~

ReplyDeleteOH, Kim, big hug to you!!!!!!! I am so sorry you have strep throat too! Jeremy is home with it too right now and the DR says his tonsils need to come out. This is truly going to cause you to appreciate the bright sunshiny days that are coming your way.... This too shall pass!!!!!!!

Made of Honor and 27 Dresses. Girl movies but at least it is something to watch while you recover. Get well soon!
ReplyDeleteWow, hopefully you've had your share of stress for the next five years. Sounds like things will be looking up, soon you'll be settled in your beautiful new home.
ReplyDeleteStrep is awful, wishing you a speedy recovery!
My Big Fat Greek Wedding is a good light hearted flick.
Hugs,
Dianne
Strep throat...it just can't be! I have a sore throat too and almost drooled trying to say hello to a Mom at ballet today. It would have helped if I knew her. Instead, I just looked ridiculous!
ReplyDeleteHere's to thinks looking up. I'm praying for you!
*Bickies
Oh no : ( I am so sorry {{{{hug}}}} Things will turn around for you I just know it!!!!!! Hang in there!
ReplyDeleteWow. I am so sorry! I have been dying to send a package to you guys (a feel happy package) but I don't have your new address. I hope you get better soon! This is an extreme case of "when it rains it POURS!" I pray you get healthy and strong again soon. There is nothing worse than being sick and having to take care of others. The best rental movie of ALL time is "The Scarlet Pimpernel" with Jane Seymour. Other good ones are "The Man who knew to little" with Bill Murray and "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" with Steve Martin. I don't think there is anything funnier than Steve Martin in this role. I hope your family gets to move in your lovely new home soon! Love to you all from Utah! Lisa :)
ReplyDeleteSecond Hand Lions was a great movie (without any trashy stuff) and if you should happen to get that "side effect" please have one of the peanuts take a picture...that will give us all a giggle as we have never seen such a thing in all our lives!
ReplyDeleteLove and Warm Wishes,
Michelle

ReplyDeleteOh my goodness. I truly hope things turn around for you. Hopefully you will be feeing better soon. I also wanted to let you know about a yahoo group you might be interested in if you live near the Houston Area. It is called China Mom's of Kingwood and it is a wonderful play group of kiddos adopted from China. Hope all is well.
Oh my!
ReplyDeleteBless your heart, hope you feel better soon.
August Rush was an awesome movie.
I am so sorry!!! I snet an email to you a few weeks ago (like my email is # 1 priority) we may be coming to your new city and I would love to meet up somewhere if possible. Email when you can!!
ReplyDeleteKim,
ReplyDeleteI've been on the blog sidelines for a long time and have always enjoyed reading your blog but have never commented. In fact, I had never commented on ANY blog until I started my own very recently and realized how nice it is for people to leave messages. So I thought that I would stop by and say hi and I really hope and pray you are feeling better VERY soon!
Oh my....I am praying for you. We get strep ALL the time! I know how you must feel!
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry you are sick- there is hardly anything worse than strep- I hate the feeling of needing to swallow but fighting it so hard because it will hurt so bad. And being the mom makes it a million times worse- how do things go on? I sure hope you will feel better soon! Usually the meds kick in pretty quick! Take care and rest!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Sharon
The black hairy tongue thing has me freaked out.
ReplyDeleteFor a visual lullaby "Rivers and Tides". You don't have to think and you can fall asleep & wake up without really missing anything
Feel Better!
Terri

It just keeps getting better doesn't it!! That is unbelievable. I used to get strep all the time and know how miserable it is. I hope you feel much better very soon. I'm with you - surely things have to turn around soon!!

I knew it had gone from bad to worse when I came here and didn't find a Thankful Thursday post.
ReplyDeleteI really, really wish I lived closer so that I could run over and physically lend a hand. However, I will continue to pray that this very unpleasant chapter is put behind you VERY soon. Like NOW!
Movies? I suggest a comedy. laughter may be the best medicine...or does it hurt when you laugh? Oh, you poor thing.
Whoa... Kim, things will surely be looking up soon. As for movies, I just watched "Definitely, Maybe", "Little Women" & "Baby Mama" on my trip with girlfriends. They were all good. I love "P.S., I love you" (GREAT CLOTHES!) & "Father of The Bride" (GREAT HOUSE!). HOpe you get better. And a black hairy tongue? Well, I hope that you must not endure that too, but if it should happen, will you please do a blog post about it? ;) All the best, Erin
ReplyDeleteSorry you are having such challenges, and all at once. Hope your life is soon back to normal.
ReplyDeleteI hope you feel better soon! So glad that you can find humor in tough times.
ReplyDeleteAgain, praying for things to settle down(Remember James)
Blessings,
Robin

Oh Kim,
ReplyDeleteI hope that things are looking up soon. What a long road and you are handling it with such grace. Wish I could bring you over some more soup. Feel better.
Pride and Prejudice is so beautiful and always makes me feel better.
Can't wait to hear more about your new house. I hope that a new home will give you all some relief and help you feel more settled and secure in your new city.
Kim,
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry you are so sick...I hate that you don't have anyone to swoop right in and take care of things like you did in VA. I would, if I could.
I'm working my way through your posts. I'm BEHIND!!!
A better day is around the corner. I know it. I believe it.
Get well soon.
Love,
Lisa
PS-DON'T read the side effects...It is too freaky.
Ok, Kim, I just had to laugh about the "hairy black tongue"....but that was after I about GAGGED!! How does one eat and swallow with a "hairy black tongue"?! And NOT gag?!! Uuggghh!! lol
ReplyDeleteWell, I hope you are NOT able to ever answer that for me!!! lol
I do have to say, that I'm relieved to hear your humor...that really is a good sigh that you're not going completely crazy...which would be understandable! :)
I fully believe things will be turning around for you all very soon!!! I just KNOW it!!! :)
I hope you are feeling better!!
Oh, and YEA for home inspections and being able to get in within a few weeks!! I'm sure you're looking forward to setting up your gorgeous new nest!!!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear you're sick now...hoping for better days for your family.
ReplyDeletePS: That is a really scary side effect...although maybe you could work it into a Halloween costume??
Hang in there.
Karen
Murphy's law...it must be. Hope you are feeling better today. Nyquil to sleep? Simply Sleep (lighter than tylenol pm)? I am not a big movie person. I love any and all reality shows and am addicted to my TIVO. When wall-e comes it good for you and the kids. Did you see SATC at the movies? I never did. That would be a good rental. Take care and be well.
ReplyDeleteGet well soon!
ReplyDeleteHopefully you will all be settled and healthy quickly.
Hi. I just found your blog. I love it. I, too, am new to the Houston area. Hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteOh Kim, I have been thinking about you and hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteso sorry to hear that you're under the weather. my prayers are with you and those who need you. my daughter had strep throat last week, a really terrible case. the doctor said they've seen a lot of it this year already. feel better soon:)
ReplyDeleteHope you are feeling better! Things are bound to start getting better soon!!
ReplyDeleteKeeping your sense of humor is a GREAT thing! Soon all of this is going to turn around and you will be comfy and cozy in your new house! Yeah! Okay..I agree with a previous comment about The Scarlet Pimpernel..great movie. Also, I LOVE LOVE LOVE The Holiday. I think I could watch it a hundred times over! So great! Feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry!! I hope you feel better soon. I'll say a prayer for you. Hang in there. :)
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Staci
Hope you are feeling better!
ReplyDeleteKim and Katiebug
Oh, Kim! I'm so sorry you are having it so rough right now (I can relate though)!
ReplyDeleteI just listened to tons of phone messages and finally got yours... I will try to give you a call this week in the morning when you are least likely to be having family time. :) I'm looking forward to catching up!
Congratulations on the new house- it's so beautiful!
Feel better & hugs to you,
Shana :)
Hope you are feeling a little better by now! Poor thing.
ReplyDeleteLea

Hope you are feeling better Kim! I remember the last time I had strep, I was teaching Vacation Bible School for the week, even with the anitbiotic, by Friday, I was on my very last leg:)
ReplyDeleteHoping none of the peanuts get the scourge and that the weekend has brought somewhat of a reprieve.
Thinking of you
Hugs,
Heather
Kim,
ReplyDeleteI used to live in Houston and was part of an international adoption group there. Very nice people!. I told them about you and family and they'd love to meet you.
I pray you are doing better.
God bless you,
Kari
