Today marks the sixth anniversary of Three Peanuts!!! I had actually started a little web site earlier than that solely to document Dave and Will's journey to China to bring home Kate but quickly switched over to blogger. I still remember sitting in our family room at my laptop and asking Dave what I should call the blog. And thus Three Peanuts was born. Will was just 9 years old and Harry had just turned 6! Kate was not in our family yet but she was in our hearts and our constant prayers. It is hard for me to imagine that time in our lives because it feels like Kate has been here forever!
I am still amazed at the joys and gifts this journey has brought us. We have met amazing friends and made and documented so many fabulous memories. This blog actually feels like part of the family sometimes.
I know some of you have been here from the very beginning and some of you are new readers. I thank all of you for your love and friendship and prayers and well wishes for our family over the years. I have had incredibly kind and generous readers and I am truly blessed to call many of you friends as well.
I have a lot to blog about this month. The peanuts have been off from school for the past 2 and 1/2 weeks so I have tried to stay off the computer while they were home. Kate and Harry go back to school tomorrow and Will goes back on Wednesday so I am sure I will be playing catch up.
Cheers! I look forward to many more years of blogging. Please take this opportunity to let me know who you are and how you found 3 peanuts either in the comments or e-mail. I would love to know who stops by each day to share in our lives.
Blessings,
Kim
(Just in case your a statistician like me, this is my 1150th post and 3 peanuts is read regularly by people in 11 different countries. You can see the first (very boring) post here. It is fun to see how young we all looked back then! I think I posted 5 entires that first day though:)
My name is Lia and I live in Nashville with my husband and dog. I'm a NICU nurse at Vanderbilt medical center and love the little babies. I don't remember how I found your blog but I've been reading for a few years and love it!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for saying hi Lia!! You have such an amazing job!!! Will thinks about going to Vanderbilt for college...so you'll have to stay tuned;)
DeleteNot sure how I found you, but glad I did. I read you everyday from southeast Louisiana. I have my own blog that I really am trying to focus more on in the new year. All the best to you and yours in 2013! Oh, I did buy a dress of Kate's last year or maybe the year before? Pink with a zipper with a flower. My daughter loved it!
ReplyDeleteHi Kelly. I am going to pop over to check out your blog. Glad your daughter loved the dress!!
DeleteCongrats!! Well, you know that Jodee and I found you and started reading you immediately (sometimes even from work!!!) and became your BFFs in Lincoln, right!! Love keeping up with you and your family reminds me of a younger version of mine since I also have two boys and a sweet girl born in China.
ReplyDeleteJanet, I adore you and Jodee and feel so blessed to "know" y'all. I love keeping up with you both too. Happy New Year!
DeleteWow! Congratulations, Kim!! You are a much better blogger than I will ever be! I think we met on RQ, originally, in our October DTC room. Even writing that seems like it happened a million years ago! Remember how we all hung on for dear life, in that room? Oh how hard that wait was, but it was made a little easier having that October Room!! Thanks for being a blog-friend!
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous 2013, Kim!!

KK, Thank you. I think maybe we found each other through Tres Poshe Preppy (who was one of the 1st blogs I read)? I think she is private now and that totally bums me out cause I'd love to keep up with her. Anyway, i love keeping up with you and I pray for you.
DeleteHappy 6th Anniversary of blogging Kim! Found you in the adoption blogging world. I've enjoyed reading your candid family posts, about sweet Kate and your boys, and (as a designer) appreciate your knack for design. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteGood morning Dianne! Thank you so much for your kind comments. Do you have a design blog? I'd love to see it and or link to it!

Bon jour Anne. Thank you so much for reading and for introducing your self!
DeleteMy name is Rhonda. I found your blog from another blog roll several years ago. I think what kept me reading is your faith and love of family. Also I love your adoption story. I traveled to China two summers ago to volunteer teach at a summer reading camp. It changed my life in many ways, for I relied on my faith and shared it in a way I never have before. I read lots of blogs, but rarely comment. I have been teaching elementary school for 26 years, have two grown daughters, two wonderful sons-in-law, and three precious granddaughters. I want you to know I have been praying for your family. Congratulations on your blog anniversary.
ReplyDeleteRhonda, Thank you for your beautiful words. I love that you volunteered in China. I am sure that was life changing. I'll bet your students are very blessed to have you as their teacher!!!
DeleteCongratulations! I enjoy reading your blog so much: your honesty, love for your family and Christ, your sense of style... its all so refreshing and interesting.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful new year!
Ani, Thank you so much. You have been a loyal follower for a long time. Happy new year to you as well.
Delete6 years...I have to admit I didnt' even know blogging has existed that long...obviously my head was in the clouds, lol.
ReplyDeleteA big congrats to you Kim....keep on doing what you are doing, because we like it!
Tina, thank you so much. I love following along on your blog and am so glad we found each other. You are so sweet and generous with your time and kindness!!!!
DeleteHi Kim, my name is Shauna and I have a now 14 year old daughter from China. I am a single mom and we live in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada. I am a special education teacher and have a class of children with autism. It has been my passion for over 20 years. My daughter is a talented artist and plays th flute, she is in her first year of high school.
ReplyDeleteHi Shauna. i love your passion for helping kids with autism. What a gift you have been given. Your daughter sounds amazing. Blessings to you both!
DeleteKim...I have followed you since almost the beginning. I have prayed for you and your family many times. This is the first time I have commented. I can't remember who directed me to your blog....but I remember I was intriqued that your Husband was going to China and you were staying home. I've enjoyed watching your family grow and especially how your Kate has bloomed. I don't know you personally..but I would say Kate is just like her Mom! God Bless and keep blogging!
ReplyDeletePatti in South Carolina
Pat, Thank you SO much for your prayers. i cannot tell you how much that means to me. Sometimes, I feel funny asking for them but Harry in particular could really use them and I love praying for other people when they need it. Kate is a lot like me. God had the perfect daughter in mind for our family when he called us to adoption. I will say though she is MUCH more artistic than I am and she teaches me so much everyday!
DeleteI stumbled upon your blog via Beantown Prepster and it is one of my absolute favorites. You write so well, have amazing photographs, and the cutest children! I love reading and seeing pictures of Kate dancing. She is so talented. Congratulations on six years!

ReplyDeleteThank you so much Amanda!! I just found Beantown Prepster again last week!!
DeleteKim, As you know I found your blog while exploring adoption. So glad I did! Happy 6th anniversary! That is a LOT of blog posts:)
ReplyDeleteHi Maureen. Thanks for the kind wishes!!!
DeleteCongratulations on 6 years! I found you through other adoption blogs. I read some of your early post-not boring. Quick question. How come you didn't go to china, and do you guys ever plan to go as a whole family.
ReplyDeleteIt is complicated as to why I did not go but we really felt as though Dave was the best person to go. Harry had a lot of health problems and the doctors told us he could not go to China. Will REALLY wanted to go and we felt like we could not leave Harry home while the rest of the family went. Also, I am TERRIFIED of flying. I know I could have done it but I probably would have needed medication and I would not have been very good for Kate that way. Dave is a seasoned traveler (as is Will) and so that worked best for our family. When they arrived home jet lagged and exhausted, I was fresh and energized. I had cooked and froze meals. The house was clean and organized. It worked REALLY well for us and Kate had zero issues bonding with me. She came right to me joyfully and called me Mama within days. I have no regrets about the way it worked for our family. Yes, we hope to return to China when Kate is older and I am actively working on my fear of flying. God's hand was on our whole experience as it could not have gone more smoothly.
DeleteIt's been amazing following your blog. I have been following basically since our LID January 4, 07. And yes we are still waiting!

Hi Kim,
ReplyDeleteI am Ashley and I have been checking in since right after Kate came home. I can't remember exactly how I originally found your blog, but I think was through another adoptive family's blog...maybe Denise's?? Although I always knew I wanted to adopt, through your blog and others, my heart was set on China! Since I started reading, I have met the guy of my dreams, gotten married, moved a few times and have started our own adoption journey - THANK YOU for providing inspiration to our family. We had quite the surprise, as we found out we were expecting a bio baby right after we sent off our adoption documents to USCIS! So we were DTC on December 18th and our little man is dues April 5th...2013 is sure to be busy! I try to keep up a bit on my own blog, but I must say that I have a ways to go!!
Blessings to you and your precious family and again THANK YOU for the inspiration to follow our family's red thread! Ashley
Hi Kim,
ReplyDeleteI am not sure if I've ever introduced myself before, but I am a long-time follower. I am Debi from West Michigan. My husband, Steve, and I have two children from China, Emerson (Emme) is 7. We brought her home when she was 12 months old. Aidan just turned 6 and he came home at 4 1/2, almost a year and a half ago. I love your blog, it is one of my very favorites! I think I started following shortly after your Kate Emerson came home and I found you from another adoption blog. My husband is a commercial airline pilot and used to be based in Houston. He now flies out of Chicago. I am an educator. After 25 years of teaching middle school, I retired early so I can stay home with our kids and spend more precious time with them! I work part-time now for our local University and love it! We are also Catholic, so I feel a little extra connection in our shared faith. You have a beautiful family, and I enjoy your style and grace. I also enjoy praying for others, especially your Will. Happy 6th Anniversary! (Our adoption blog for Aidan: babyjellybeans.com First Name: Aidan Last Name: St. Arnauld Password: oursun)
Hi Kim! I found your blog via Pinterest - someone had pinned your gorgeous kitchen and I clicked over from there. Then I went back and read some older posts, and just kept coming back! Your family is beautiful, your photography is beautiful, but what I love most is what an intentional and dedicated mother you are. This comes through in every post that you write, and it is so refreshing and inspiring! Thanks for letting me follow along!
ReplyDeleteHi Kim! I've been reading your blog for several years. I started reading right after Kate came home. I always thought I would adopt from China one day, so I started reading adoption blogs. When my husband and I had trouble getting pregnant, it looked like adoption would happen a lot sooner than we thought. The only thing was, I wasn't 30 yet, so we couldn't start the process for China. We decided to do domestic infant adoption and were blessed with a sweet baby boy 3 months after we started the process. His whole adoption story was evident of the hand of God working. He is now 2 1/2 and the biggest blessing we could ever imagine.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, love your blog. Congratulations on 6 years of blogging.
Katie

Hi Kim, I'm almost certain I found your blog thru Diane's blog (First a Pearl...now 3 Rubies). I was new to ADOPTION and must admit...I thought it would NEVER happen in MY WORLD. I'm married to a wonderful guy for 27yrs, I'm a 48 yr old Mother of a 31, 27,25, 23 and adoptive mother of a now 5yr old, throw in the mixture of 9 grandkids ages 8 to 1mo old and it REALLY gets interesting! I LOVE PHOTOGRAPHY and enjoy snapping pictures of my precious Blessings quite often *well when the cooperate* HA!! I come here to read very often. I enjoy the fashion, decorating ideas, suggestions of products and awesome recipes. I look forward to reading your updates and you had me worried for a second when I read your opening lines. I have been reading BLOGS for quite awhile and usually when they start like that...it's usually the LAST TIME BLOGGING!Ha!! So glad that's not the case!! BRING ON MORE 3PEANUTS!!!!
ReplyDeleteHere is a hint to my first name: It's the same as your sibling *wink-wink*
Hi Kim, I am Shelley and we are in Mandeville, LA. I am mom to 3 handsome boys and one beautiful 4 year old daughter that we came home from China with this past August. I am sure I came across your bolg while in the adoption process. Wonderful blog and a beautiful family.
ReplyDeleteHi Kim! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteI'm one of the new readers, engrossing the list of people who read your blog from abroad (Spain). I don't even remember how I came to your blog - I think maybe via Carly, the College Prepster? It was your account of Kate's Parisian birthday what drew me in and then your lovely day-to-day adventures made me stay.
Thanks for letting me introduce myself :)
6 years! Wow! I guess I have been reading you for about 4 of those? So glad I found you.
ReplyDeleteAd thank you for your sweet comment on my last post.
Hi Kim! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteI also read you from abroad: Spain. I think I found you via Carly, the College Prepster, when you wrote about Kate's Parisian birthday party. It was so lovely that I read other entries and I was hooked. It's a pleasure to read about your day-to-day adventures as a family. Now I find myself talking to my sister every now and then about Kate, since she is also dyslexic and remembers really well the ordeal of fighting against stubborn school board members.
Thank you for your wonderful blog posts and for this opportunity to introduce myself!
Hi Kim,
ReplyDeleteI believe I was here from the beginning. I was waiting for my daughter in January 2007 and pretty much looked to blogs for support, hope and encouragement. In our world, people in our lives didn't believe it was real or really going to happen until we were leaving for China. In our family someone close to us had a failed adoption and no one wanted to do or buy anything until they were sure. We knew in our heart that it was going to happen, but the wait was very difficult for me since this was my first adoption that was proceeding on course. We had some near misses for a lack of a better word and agencies which were concerned about my heart condition. I was blessed with a wonderful husband, John who believed in me and believed I would make a good mom. He went to the ends of the earth to make that dream happen. I adopted my daughter, Hannah in May 2007 from china.
John and I both work full time, so I look to blogs to see what others are up to, look for support in those difficult mom moments, and get ideas or learn from others. I'm a first time mom and have been learning every step of the way.
Hannah is the light of our life. She is in first grade and attends a private religious school. She is in swimming lessons and on a youth cheer team.
I have enjoyed reading your blog over the years, but rarely post.
Blessings from CT.
Caroline
lovely! Loved the first pictures! I found you when I had lunch in London w/Kappa Prep and Beantown Prepster and they told me how much I'd enjoy your writing. Congrats on it all and best wishes for 2013
ReplyDeleteDear Kim,
ReplyDeletemy name is Malou. I'm 17 years old and I live in the Netherlands. I found your blog through another adoption blog around 2 years ago. I've always been interested in adoption. I read your blog everyday. It expresses true love in a family, which I LOVE. You're such a good mother. I'm lucky enough to have a fantastic mom and dad, too (I still call my mom mama, just like Kate!). Kate is just perfect for your family, she's darling. And your boys are very handsome and have good manners.
Love from across the ocean,
Malou
Hi Kate! My name is Christine and I live on the lovely island of Puerto Rico! 3peanuts was mentioned on another blog that no longer exists. The blogger wrote about how she found you and your blog to be inspirational and positive so I thought I'd check it out. You are an amazing mother and wife and I look forward to reading your updates. Take care!

Hi Kate! My name is Christine and I live on the lovely island of Puerto Rico! I'm originally from the Houston area and I found your blog randomly. 3peanuts was mentioned on another blog that I used to read (the blog author no longer odds active). The blog author had such positive things to say about you and how family oriented and positive you were that I had to check it out for myself. I think you are filled with grace and that the love you have for your family is evident. My husband and I were inspired by your adoption story and are looking in to pursuing adoption in the future. Thank you for writing and sharing your life with us!
ReplyDeleteHi Kim,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on six years of wonderful blogging!
I think I have been reading since pretty close to the beginning - I have stayed here because of your lovely words, beautiful photography, and interesting family life. Thank you for sharing with us!
I'm 28, from NY, working at an art museum. My partner and I will definitely be adopting in the next ten years. Your story is so helpful to all of us who will walk this road.
Thanks again,
Tamara
Hi Kim, I can't remember how I came across your blog now possibly via another adoption blog because I would like to adopt one day. I live in the UK and work as a dietitian in the National Health Service here. I'm looking forward to many more years of reading your blog! Flyss
ReplyDeleteHi Kim
ReplyDeleteCongrats on 6 years! I think I found you around year 2 and fell in love with you and your family immediately! Blessed to "know" you and admire you so. Much love to all the peanuts!

Hi Kim,
ReplyDeleteI'm Hope and from Sandy Hook, CT. I know you have had our town in your prayers and for that I am so thankful. My husband and I have two children (5 and 3) and adoption has always been in my heart so I love to read adoption blogs. I believe I found your blog a few years ago through Kristi's blog.
I pray for your family every day and find you and your family's faith to be so inspiring. Your family is just beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing your journey!
Still love you & your blog:)))))
ReplyDeleteWay to go, Kim! Time does fly! I am not from a particularly fun or exotic place :) as you know... But I can tell you that I love your photography and recipes and parenting tips most! Here's to many more!!
ReplyDeleteNot quite sure how I found you but I have been reading along for years. My name is Anne and I live in St. Louis, I love your photography, party ideas, decorating, and precious clothing styles for all the kids and you! It seems nearly impossible to find nice traditional clothes for kids these days, especially girls. I have a 13 year old and luckily she wears a uniform to school. You seem like such a sweet family, and Kate is a little doll baby! Love her! Thank you for taking the time to share your life with us.
ReplyDeleteI am Lisa King, a friend of Denise Feagans. I started reading your blog when you lived in Va. and Denise blogged about visiting you before she had Maggie. I enjoy reading about your family and I like your taste in clothes and decorating. I've gotten lots of great ideas from you. I'm married with 3 children, 1 daughter and 2 sons. I'm also a nurse who has worked in a doctor's office for 27 years. Glad you will continue blogging.

ReplyDeleteKim - it does not seem possible that it was six years ago that we met in RQ's October 2005 LID group!!!! You were Kimber and I was Northern Girl back then!!!! I didn't even know what a blog was until I met you and the "3 Peanuts!"
ReplyDeleteLook how many you have blessed in the time you have been sharing! So many great memories! Especially the Spring of 2007 when we welcomed Kate and Ruby!
Blessings for another great SIX!
Love,
Northern Girl
Hi Kim. I follow you from Iowa, and I particularly admire your photography and your thoughtful approach to parenting. I appreciate that you don't always write that all is perfect, and that you sometimes have challenges and difficult times, as all of us do. Thank you for sharing your family, you are lovely and inspirational.
ReplyDeletecongrats on your 6th blogging anniversary! I really love you blog. I found it from another blog, but I forget which one!
ReplyDeleteMy name is Amanda and I graduated from college (miami university, I majored in finance) in May and now I live in East Asia where I am a language student. I start blogging to document my life here. It's been fun to read blogs and meet people and feel connected to America.
Thanks for writing a terrific blog, your daughter really touches my heart, especially since I live in Asia. :)
Hi Kim,
ReplyDeleteI'm a 23 year old Chinese girl living in New Zealand. I'm not sure how I found your blog, but I've always been interested in adoption and I've been following along for a few years now. I love getting a little glimpse of your family life, it looks so happy and filled with love :)
Here's to another six years!
Louise
Hi 3 peanuts,
ReplyDeleteI'm from the UK and I have absolutely no idea how I originally found your blog, but I love reading and my youth group at church loved the 'slackers' bible guide at the beginning of last year.
As I'm preparing for my marriage I loved listening to your radio show broadcasts too :) Thanks for sharing your life and your families life and please keep doing so, you make me smile every day.

May God bless and heal this sweet little girl and her family. I will most certainly keep her in my frequent prayers!

Here's to 6 more years (and more) of your blog!! I love reading about your family as well as your clothing-home design posts!

ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your blog-iversary!!!! I wish I could remember exactly how I found your blog a 2.5 years ago but I know it was from another blog. I enjoy a peak into your family's life as well as your posts about parties, home design and clothing. I appreciate your outlook on life as well as your style! Here's to 6 (plus more) years of your blog!

ReplyDeleteI think I found you a few years back I am sure on someone's blog roll. We adopted from china and I was reading everything I could about adoption.
I still check in weekly on you all and this is my first time commenting. Your blog is fun, real and inspiring!
Love it !!!

Kudos to you on your six year blog-iversary! I'm not sure how or when I found your blog. I'm sure I found it by looking at other blogs and their favorite blogs and so on and so on :) I have found so many great blogs through other blogs! I love the support we give one another :) I love your style, your love of family, your family traditions, your beautiful home, and your Faith. I will continue to be a daily reader of your blog. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteMeg @ http://www.furniture-ology.blogspot.com/
I have been reading for about 4 years now. I found you through Allyson B, and I read your entire blog in 2 nights when I first found it. I was really intrigued about abortion at the time because my husband and his siblings were adopted, and I liked reading from your point of view. Your blog was the 2nd one I ever read! I had no idea the blog world even existed :) I have really enjoyed watching your family grow and you are such an inspiration.
ReplyDeleteHi Kim! I have been following your blog for years. I guess you would call me a lurker... I read every post but don't always comment and I don't have a blog of my own. I have three children, ages 13, 10 and 7. Our youngest ,Ainsley, came home from China when she was 2 1/2. I think I found your blog while waiting for her to come home! I enjoy your blog because we have similar values (faith and family), interests (decorating, fashion, etc) and sweet baby girls from China! It's funny because I feel like I know you and think if we ever met could be good friends:)
ReplyDeleteAlthough I don't have a current blog, I did keep this journal while we were in China!
Thanks for sharing your family!

Hi! My name is Jenne...I started reading your blog when your husband traveled to get Kate. Not sure how I stumbled upon your blog but it was probably from some other adoption blog. We brought home our Son from Guatemala in 2008.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy reading your blog!
Congratulations on six years! I have been reading for close to two years now I think and found your blog through another mom's adoption blog (from our same orphanage) when I started blogging about our adoption process-- of course. As our process has dragged on well over two years now, I love seeing your family home and together and doing life...and since I know nothing about fashion, decorating, or photography, I find all of those elements fascinating! Thanks for sharing.God bless.
ReplyDeleteHa, just spent time going back to the beginning, trying to see when I first posted! lol Don't remember exactly how I found you but I know I spent a lot of time here when you were bringing Kate home. Wow, it is so weird traveling down that memory lane of when I first started blogging. Makes me laugh (and cringe some too ... wink wink). And to see your kiddos when they were so wee-little .... makes me so happy that I stick with blogging, it's such a great way to capture time.
ReplyDeleteI think the first time I commented was on a post about a dress you bought while waiting for time to pass. :)
Have always enjoyed your blog!! Congrats on SIX years!!
