a hard day

Monday, January 14, 2013

I am, by nature an optimist.  I really am.  When things get rough, I vent a bit, pray, and I then pick myself up by my bootstraps and move on.  I don't really hold grudges and I almost always look for the good in things.  In fact, one of my favorite scriptures lately is James 1: 2-3

Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds because you know that testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

But the last 24 hours have me beaten down.  My patience has run out.  My optimism is gone.  I feel so defeated.  Things I have been working SO hard at and praying so fervently about are not going well.  I am tired and worn out and frustrated.

Do y'all get this way?  What do you do?  I know I need to just keep praying.  Just keep going.  I need to trust and believe.

I read my Bible this morning but I also found these on Pinterest and wanted to share in case anyone else was feeling this way on a cold, rainy Monday morning....

    1. Laura I am not sure if you will see this but I googled praying bible verses over your children and there are some great sources on line for specific scriptures to pray for your child. I, too worry greatly about one of my children and have been looking for better ways to pray for him. I also read a great book called Praying Circles around your children this week. It is 1.99 on amazon or barnes and noble and fabulous. I wish you peace.

    2. Thank you Kim. This child has broken my heart so much and he himself is struggling. I know it will work out but it is so hard to wait for a positive resolution. Thank goodness for my faith. I will pray for you and your family!

  4. I am so sorry. Keep on thinking about trusting and praying. When I am struggling this if my favorite prayer to St. Jude, the patron saint of hope. It always makes me feel better...

God of Hope, come to me.
Help me to know that your hope is alive in me as I offer kindness, forgiveness,
    and tenderness to others.
I seek the inner calm that comes from trusting in you.
Give me the courage to be aware of your healing presence.
May I trust that St. Jude walks with me in times of trouble, and intercedes on my behalf.
St. Jude, fill my heart with hope. Amen

  7. My mom always told me :If every day was good, then we wouldn't know how much God walks besides us and carry us thru the bad times. That ALWAYS seems to help me, especially when I get in a "rut" with life. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. It will get better...God promised it.

  8. Oh yes, my life gets like this sometimes too. I do recommend praying and I usually ask the Lord to either help me or shut the door in my face on whatever is troubling me. Sometimes the trouble I face is Him telling me I am going in the wrong direction. I hate it when He does that to me but I always learn a valuable lesson.

I hope your week gets better.

  9. Sorry to hear it Kim. I have had a few days/times like that this past year. You know what I do? I go take a looooong hot bubble bath, have a glass of wine or champagne, dont' get out till I am like a prune then get to bed EARLY. I just feel like the sooner its a new day, things have a good chance of looking up. Things always seem a little better the next morning, this always really helps my mood. Good luck with whatever s going on..sending a hug. We have ALL been there.

  10. Kim, I read this early today when I was on the road...... you are not alone!!!
I have been there a million times and will probably be there a million more.

I am not exactly sure what you are going through, but I believe you can do anything you put your mind to and I hope that you can cling to your optimism and let the other feelings fall away.

    Thinking of you~

    xoxo

  11. I am very sorry to hear that things are hard for you, Kim. Yes, I have times like that. I usually cry and vent, then pray for peace. I say to myself, "One day at a time." That seems to help. I know that for one day I can endure and get through it with God's help. Bless you. I am praying for you and your family.

  12. "It will be Okay"... one of my father's famous lines. I heard this ALL THE TIME growing up... and you know what... it's true:) I hope that you are out of your valley soon. " All things work together for good for those who trust in the Lord". I know this is sometimes hard for me to believe but I've seen evidence in my own life of trials that have turned out to be blessings in the end. Hang in there and I will be praying for you:)

  15. I often think of the Serenity Prayer. And think of a line from a song :
Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers , remember when your talking to the Man upstairs that just because he don't answer doesn't mean he don't care ,
Some of Gods greatest gifts are
    Unanswered prayers.
Hope you get through this quickly and with peace

  16. Kim, so very sorry it has been a hard day. You sure aren't alone in this! I absolutely have days like that. And from the comments so far, it sounds like all of us do! Time away always helps me . . . a relaxing meal with a very close friend, or just time on my own in a book store. Clearing the mind always helps put things ini perspective. Looking back on my struggles, I'm most grateful for the empathy I gained through them.

Thanks for sharing the verses and positive thoughts!

    Hang in there,

  17. So sorry you had an awful day.... I don't know what's going on, but I love how you can pull it a part and bring it to Him.. Our BSF teacher always used to say... "Go to the throne, before you go to the phone!" So true but so hard to do in the heat of it!

    Praying today is better!

    Hugs,
    Di

  18. This is one of my favorite prayers, from a very old prayer book my grandmother gave me years ago. I hope it brings you some comfort.

    Complete Trust in God

Do not look forward to the trials and crosses of this life with dread and fear. Rather, look to them with full confidence that, as they arise, God, to whom you belong, will deliver you from them.

He has guided and guarded you thus far in life. Do you but hold fast to his dear hand, and he will lead you safely through all trials. Whenever you cannot stand, he will carry you lovingly in his arms.

Do not look forward to what may happen tomorrow. The same Eternal Father who cares for you today will take good care of you tomorrow and every day of your life. Either he will shield you from suffering or he will give you the unfailing strength to bear it.

Be at peace then and put aside all useless thoughts, vain dreads, and anxious imaginations (St. Francis de Sales).
