First Tuxedo

Saturday, January 12, 2013
Will attends an all boy Jesuit college prep school but right next door is an all girl prep school.  And last night was their winter formal dance.  Will was invited by a lovely young woman.  The dress code stated that a tuxedo or suit was preferred so we rented a tux for Will.  He is growing so rapidly that it made no sense to buy one.

I must admit that when I took him to be measured for the tux, I got a HUGE lump in my throat and my eyes began to water unexpectedly.  It was strange seeing him that way. He looked so grown up. I had never really thought about it before but I imagined that the first time I would see him in a tux would be his wedding day (I had forgotten about proms and such).

I tried to snap a few shots before we left but it was getting dark quickly and no one would stop for the camera. But I do love this little interaction I caught between brothers....

The family of Will's date graciously invited our entire family over for photos and drinks and appetizers.  Let me just say (for the record) that Will did NOT want Harry and Kate to tag along at all.  But I thought it was really nice and other siblings were there too.  I think it is good for Harry and Kate to be exposed to these things so they know what to expect when they get to that stage.

Kate was enamored with all the gorgeous young women.

Will's date has a younger brother that Will introduced Harry to and off they went to shoot hoops.

Meanwhile, Kate enjoyed playing with their schnauzer (who looks a little like our schnoodle, Scout).

It was nice that one of Will's good buddies was in the group too.

I was trying to sneak a few shots around the corner of the kids hanging out.  As you can see, I did not have a steady hand and Will was getting mad at me, so I stopped.  But I did sneak these with my Iphone as they were leaving...

And Will pushing him away:)

I wish I had gotten a photo of Will's cuff links...but I did not.  Dave let Will wear a pair that belonged to his Dad (Will's granddad).  Will never met his paternal Granddad as he died before Will was born but Will is named after him.  He went by Bill but his name was William too.

After an hour of socializing, the kids headed off to a fabulous restaurant for dinner.  I was a little envious as this is probably my favorite restaurant in town.  Dave has thrown me two birthday dinners there:)

We all stayed at his date's house for a while longer.  Harry played basketball with their younger son and Kate hung out too.  It was really nice.  We really enjoyed the other families a lot.

After the formal, they all went to I-hop to eat again.  Will's date's Mom dropped Will off at 1:30 AM!  He's never been out that late.  They seemed to have a great time though.  I really cannot believe how fast these kids grow up.  I know everyone says it but it is flashing right before my eyes!

I also want to add that we are VERY PROUD of Will for making the honor roll for his first semester in high school.  He is at a very challenging high school and he is not used to working at all hard for good grades. There have been some adjustments but he is doing really well.  Actually all three of these young men in this post made honor roll so they are not only handsome and nice but they are smart too!

Thank you so much for all the lovely comments on the last two posts.  I am trying to respond to each of them and visit your blogs but it will probably take me a little while to get to them all.  I promise the next post is going to be Christmas day and then a peek at my new office:)

  2. Beautiful, beautiful kids. It's so much fun to see them all dressed up. And yes, it was a trip down memory lane for me as well. Fortunately my son was fine with the picture taking. Elaine

  5. Will and his date looked awesome! His pictures bring back memories of my high school inviting the boys from the brother school and how much fun it was. Will is so fortunate to have a wonderful role model for how to treat a lady

  9. I so enjoy reading your blog! You seem to have a wonderful family. I have three children (I still call them children but they are 24, 22 and 19!). So I can attest to the fact that time goes by way too quickly!!! My son(19)is a freshman at Gonzaga University in Spokane Washington (a Jesuit college). It is a beautiful campus and I agree that a Jesuit education is top notch.

Just wanted to stop by and let you know how much I do enjoy your blog.

  10. Just want to let you know that I really enjoy your blog. Your family is wonderful. These pictures remind me of how quickly the time has gone with my three children. My youngest (son) is now a freshman at Gonzaga University, a Jesuit college in Spokane, Washington. It has been an adjustment for me as we live in N. California. My two daughters stayed in California for college so I was able to see them more frequently. My favorite times are still when we are all together.

Enjoy your family as they grow up too quickly!

  11. They are all so beautiful. So happy to see the girls are dressed not like hookers. This fall I saw a group of teenagers at the mall and they were all dressed up. Most likely for homecoming;however, the girls were dressed in dresses that barely covered what is up top and what is down below. I was stunned that their parents let them go out like this. To me it was just plain sad. Hope your son had a good time. My son will go to his first dance in march. It shall be interesting.
