We are lame parents

Saturday, March 31, 2012
Harry's 11th birthday was December the 8th (click on links to see we DID celebrate it back then as a family).  Yes, that was 4 months ago.  I put Dave in charge of Harry's birthday because I had a lot going on in December.   Plus, Harry wanted a paint ball party and I know nothing about paint ball.  Well, time got away from us Dave.  A few of Harry's friends were not allowed to do paint ball.  They are all very busy (some play tournament ball).  Somehow, the party never happened.

Now that I am planning Kate's birthday party (more on that soon), Harry remembered that his party never happened.  At the very last minute, Dave threw together an impromptu party for Harry and a couple of his friends.  Dave took Harry's closest couple of buddies go carting and then we had cake and ice cream here.  Harry had a blast and I think it was probably the perfect little party after-all.

We are so lame.  A party 4 months late.  No photos of the go carts. And only a few blurry shots of the cupcakes and ice cream part.  It stinks being the middle child (I know I am one too)!

I have no clue why these photos are not in focus. Maybe I was shaky?

Harry has the nicest little group of friends.
It makes me sad that they will all be going to different school next year!

P.S.  In case you were wondering, Dave will not be in charge of any future parties.  We love him a lot.  He is a great man but party planning is not his gift;)

Another P.S. --- I have gotten preliminary results from the cardiologist.  I have a small leak in a valve in my heart (cannot remember which one) and low blood volume.  I have my stress test on Wednesday with an echocardiogram.  We will discuss treatment options then.

  1. Lame?
    No WAY!
That would be the parent that has forgotten and doesn't care to do anything about it ;)
You guys are awesome and Harry knows it :) You can see it written all over your kids faces - they have GREAT parents.
P.S. So happy you have some possible answers, Kim!!

  2. I've been reading your blog for awhile but never commented. Your kids are so cute and I love reading your blog. Would you ever be up for doing a picture tour of your home? I love the peeks I see of your kitchen and living room from the pictures of Harry and his friends!

    1. Hi Hannah. Thank you for the kind words. I feel as though I have posted photos of about half of the rooms in our house. I guess I never thought anyone wanted to see more:) I will give it some thought.

  4. Kids always love parties...no matter when parents get around to having them :) I had to giggle cause last year my daughter had her 14 145/365th birthday party in July (after choosing not to have 'another' winter party!) We even had Happy 14 145/365th Birthday put on her cake! She loved having water games and warm weather to celebrate!
Your kids will always treasure the awesome parties you do for them!! So don't stop!!!

Still praying for healing to your sweet heart!
    Keep us posted!

  5. Harry's party may have been late, but he sure looks like a happy guy in the pictures. I actually think the picture of him with his cupcake and the one of him with Kate are precious. :)
I'm so sorry to hear abou the leaky valve in your heart. I'm sure in some ways it's good knowing what the cause of your symptoms is, but I'm sure it's not the news you wanted. Know that you'll be in our prayers here in Minnesota - and I'm sure in the prayers of many, many others as well. Please keep us updated and let us know if there's anything we can do - even from far away!

Also, I think Dave deserves some super-dad award. It sounds like everyone had a super time at the party! Many dads wouldn't touch a child's birthday party with a ten-foot pole. :)

  6. Well, He looks very happy to me.....and that is what it is all about!! Better late than never and I am sure he loved to celebrate with his friends all over again. It was probably like having two birthdays in one year:) LOL about taking the "planning" duties away from Dave!

Will be praying you get some good answers from the cardiologist this week. Take care of yourself Kim~

  7. I might have the minority opinion here but I think that having JUST a small celebration with the family is enough for a birthday party. A birthday cake with candles, the song, a favorite meal having people remember your birthday is a wonderful thing for kids. Its the only type of birthday party I have ever had as a kid.
    I do love your blog.
