This pie making session was very different than the ones with Kate and Harry so far. I guess teenagers just want to eat the pie not really make the pie. Will was not terribly interested in learning the fine art of making pie crust from scratch and he definitely was not interested in precise measurement of ingredients. There was a lot of "No WILL!" and "Pay Attention, Will!" coming from the kitchen. I think all in all Dave and Will had fun. And I think we all agreed that this was one of the best pies we have ever had. Dave makes a delicious pie crust but every time it is a little different. This was truly THE BEST crust he has ever made. It was the most heavenly combination of buttery, flaky, crispy and delicate. It was pure perfection. And even though we all said it was not a contest, even Harry had to admit this was the best pie so far.
Hamming it up for the camera. They did butt heads a few times though:)
"Will, you need to pay attention." {I am guessing Dave was saying that here}
It's not really baking if you don't end up with some flour on your face, right?
The finished product. I really should learn to photograph food better.
I know there are even books on it. We were in such a hurry to eat this warm out of the oven with some Bluebell Vanilla ice cream that I rushed the shot.

I am not sure Will wanted to follow the master pie makers instructions.

That does look delicious!
ReplyDeleteLove Will's shirt. Even though we have a place at Oak Island, NC, we'll be spending a week in Hilton Head in about a month!
YUM!!! Each of us kids had to take turns making dinner with my mom each night of the week. We each had a night when we got to pick the dinner, she would get the ingredients while we were at school and be our "assistant"...it was fun!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh. I know they kind of improvised, but can you share the recipe? That looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteLooks yummy! Cherry pie is my son's favorite. Cooking together is a great family activity. My 4 yr old wants to help me cook all the time.
ReplyDeleteThese are awesome shots, especially love the one of Will's hands working with the dough! Love the "Summer of Pie", love pie and although hard to pick a favorite, cherry is right at the top and is what I had for most of my birthdays growing up ~ ala mode of course!! This one looks so yummy, great job guys! And I love that Dave bakes, I always knew I liked that guy! :D
ReplyDeleteYou need to share Daves pastry recipe !
ReplyDeleteYum that looks so good! Can you share the recipe? I've never had cherry pie before and would love to try it out! And I agree with the others we need Dave's crust making secret! :-)
ReplyDeleteAre you using a gluten-free pie crust recipe? I haven't made a pie in ages because I haven't found a GF crust we like.
ReplyDeleteOh yum -- love some cherry pie!
