Jumping on the bandwagon!

Monday, December 13, 2010
I am not usually such a follower but I am totally being a copy cat on this one.  First, our friend, Wesleigh got the cutest lil bob last week.  Then our friend, Sienna cut her own hair which led to the cutest pixie cut for her and a darling angled bob for sister, Miss Ruby Mei.  I kept looking at Kate's long stringy locks and thinking they had seen better days.  So, I showed her Wesleigh and Ruby's new cuts and asked her if she would like one too.  She joyfully agreed!  I am spontaneous this way and could not wait for an appointment at my salon so I took her where Will goes.  Luckily, it turned out well.

I know--TOTALLY out of focus- but she was twirling around and I love her smile and when she finally stayed still....I got this face......

Lil Miss Sassy pants doesn't want bows or headbands anymore either!  I am not happy about that!  But she says we look like twins now and I think that is cute:)

She asked me as it was being cut if I think Josh (her little friend at school) will still love her with short hair.  That really made me sad that at four she thought someone would love her because of her hair (or her looks).  I could not help wonder if I made her think that because I did cry when she gave herself that mullet last year.  We talked about how people love her because she has a beautiful heart and a great sense of humor and a giving, generous personality and gifts of art, music and intelligence.  Still....it makes me sad that our girls get such messages about external beauty at such a young age.  I am going to be extra sensitive in trying to make sure Kate gets the right messages about true beauty.

Will got his hair cut too but he did not want a lot of photos (you know how it is when you are a teenager)!

  4. Oh my gosh just darling! I had my Goddaughter Ruby on Friday night and we had a conversation very much like yours with Kate. I realized I do need to do more to encourage her as well. They are such little sponges and its amazing what they remember.
Anyway, Kate's hair is darling and I love Will's as well! Norah

  9. I love, love, love Kate's new do! I recently did the same thing with Kamree's hair. I asked her if she liked the neighbor's hair and she said yes so we marched right into the "walk in" place by our house and the gal did a great job. It was a whopping $9.00 too. Whooo hooo!

  11. Such a sassy new do for a sweet Miss Kate! I love bobs...my favorite haircuts for little girls! Paige likes her long and the stringier the better...sigh! :(
I hope Kate will always know how beautiful she is on the inside and I know you do a wonderful job of instilling that in her. She is a doll!

  14. Great look for her! And Will's is cute too! Maddy's hair is cut like that -- she has a little face and I love how it frames it! Plus, not as many tangles and crankiness in the mornings!

  17. Kate's hair is lovely. I think it is so cute that she's happy to have a hairstyle like her mom! I must say I love her hair in a bow. Cute sweater, too!

I like reading your list of her wonderful and specific personality traits; kids can't hear this stuff enough. It really helps them know themselves and develop healthy self-esteem. Hard to believe she is only four!

  18. Love the new cut on Kate. Add Mia to the cute bob! She has been sporting her a-line bob for a couple years now and I just love it! I am keeping it that way until her hair is super thick and then I will let it grow a bit longer but for now, I love her beautiful a-line bob!!! Kates is adorable!!!

  19. Love it!!! Our daughter is in the process of growing out her bangs--she too informed us the bow thing is "old" she needs to move on :(!!! Once the bangs get a little longer--we are going to go for one of these cuts again like she had when she was younger! Miss Kate's new do is PERFECT! Thanks for all the lovely pictures as usual!!!

  20. I love her new 'do, my first thought when I saw it was she looked older. Then when I saw that dimple I change my mind!!! She is too cute for words. Dx

  21. Oh my word, I LOVE IT! This makes me want to get Mallory's cut like that. My husband loves Mallory's long hair and I know he wouldn't go for it but I am loving this bob cut. It just fits Miss Kate's personality. I saw Wesleigh's cut too and loved it!
I am trying to teach Mallory the same thing about appearance. I just hate how society is all about looks. So sad.

  22. I love the new hair cuts.

It is really young to worry about that stuff. Like Norah said above, kids are complete sponges and if there's a lot of active focus on hair and clothes and how the house looks - and not because those things are top priority to you, I know that, but just because eg. clothes are fun - it's important to be extra attentive to talking about true beauty. Otherwise appearance will tip the scale over substance. I think.

On the other hand I don't seem to recal you talking about the boys not being aware what true beauty is, so why shouldn't Kate end up just fine? I know she's a girl and pressures are different but still. You and Dave have done great with the boys. I'm sure it'll be the same with Kate.

  23. I am a HUGE fan of long hair, but Kate looks GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!! I really love it much better than long!! BTW, I cute bangs on Mia (which was huge for me!) and I just love them on her :)

  25. I LOVE it!! I wish Sophie would agree to a shorter cut! But she wants princess hair. I keep showing her pictures of Princess Diana - a real princess with short hair. She won't wear bows anymore either. Oh well you win some you lose some!!

  27. She looks absolutely darling. I'm dying to take Abby in for the same thing, but she'll be 8 next week and is resisting big time! I'll have to start working on some bribery techniques!

  28. The new cut is precious! Kate looks so adorable!!!

However, since my "wee one" would most likely NEVER get hers cut until...mmmm maybe her teen years...I will settle w/seeing my "bloggy babies" in their "new do's"

Wesleighs and Sienna's "new do's" were precious too!! I gotta say I love Kates"IN A BOW! It's just something about little girls and bows!!

  29. We seriously have to be kindred spirits! I also read the other two blogs and just spoke with my girl about cutting Emma's hair for the FIRST TIME!!! She's never had a hair cut since she has those curly locks, but it is starting to look a little stringy! Your post has now sealed my decision! I'm thinking Emma needs a trim too! Love Will's hair too. Brendan finally let me cut his this summer during All Stars.

  33. Nothing cuter than a bob as far as I am concerned! Kate wears it well! I hope she comes back to her bows and headbands:) although she looks lovely sans anything in her hair!
