A conversation with Kate

This conversation occurred out of the blue while Kate and I were having breakfast last weekend.

Kate: Mama, I waited a long time for you in China. (she was 10 months old when we got her;)
Me: We waited a long time for you too, Kate.  You were in my heart forever.

Kate: Mama, was I the only baby in China?  Or were other babies waiting for their families too? (she asked this very slowly and thoughtfully as though she had really considered this prospect for a long time).
Me: (blinking back tears).  Oh sweetie.  There were lots of babies waiting for their families.

Kate: I want a baby from China, Mama.  Puhhhlease?

    Happy Thanksgiving.... ;)

  4. My daughter asks for the same thing...very often :)

Several months ago when we were trying to get her to go to sleep in her own bed without me beside her, her daddy promised her a present if she would go to sleep by herself for a whole week. A few days into it he asked her what she might want for her present...and she said, without any hesitation, "a little baby from China".

We definitely want to adopt again and are praying about it. Now you have us all wondering what your response was to Kate? :)

  7. Sweet Kate. I'm guessing you know it was the Steven Curtis Chapman's eldest daughter who started the whole adoption thing for them :)

  8. And what was YOUR answer Kim? It's so hard, isn't it? Knowing what we know as adults but also understanding the adult decisions that have to be considered in a decision like that? I have to answer this question nearly every day to my oldest two but my DH has Reluctant Husband Syndrome. Pray about it and listen to what He is telling you. I'll be praying for you guys as well.

  9. Yep. I hear hague paper chasing is time consuming and not that much fun :) But we are here to support you while you do it. What a great Christmas announcement - right around the time another special baby was born :)

    You know I am praying!

  10. Looks like Kate is ready for a sissy!!! I love how kids are honest and just "tell it like it is", they just say whats on their mind. I'm curious too, what was your response to Kate?

  11. I think sometimes God speaks to us through sweet little girls!

  12. Wow!!!I think we underestimate sometimes the depth of which our children think!! She had pit some thought into her question, and what selfless thoughts to wonder if there were other babies!!!

    What a beautiful dress!!

  13. So sweet! My daughter has been telling people she is getting a baby sister. We just keep telling her to pray to Jesus about that. Baby brother hasn't even been home a year yet.
Will be excited to know what your answer to Kate is!

  17. How sweet! Kate has obviously a big heart. We are also considering adopting again with AWAA. You can now adopt "waiting" children which I believe makes the process much faster. You can check it at this link http://www.awaa.org/waitingchildren/china/default.aspx

  19. She is a lovely girl with a great heart!

  20. Wow -- I'm sure that took a few minutes to process! Sounds like you are considering adopting again. It is a huge decision and leap of faith as you well know. Someone once told me when the wait was long, but not as long as currently, that you can either decide with your heart or with your head and neither decision would be wrong. A lot depends on your family and what you believe you all can handle. Good luck to you as you ponder and pray. No matter what you decide, it will be right for you and your family. In the meantime, do you think have a new baby doll would help Kate?

  21. Good grief!! Go get her one!!!!! :)

Kim, I think this is the most beautiful photo of Kate yet. That color is absolutely scrumptious on her!!! Kate perhaps, will be the next Emily Chapman...
It shows just how big her heart is! Once you have been blessed by being chosen to parent one of God's orphans (gifts), how can you not think about going back?

Beautiful post about about beautiful pair!

  23. She is certainly a sweetheart! When I tell Paige that I want to adopt, she emphatically replies "Nooooo!!!". Kids are funny little creatures :) I bet Kate will make a great mommy one day. Who knows, perhaps she will form her family from adoption, too! Now, go and bring home a sissy for that girl, will ya? :)

  24. Kim... my friend.... I have goosebumps this very moment... you said you've been praying.... God speaks to us through our children:)
GOOSEBUMPS!! Don't ask Him, unless you are ready, because HE is ALWAYS faithful to answer...

    GOOSEBUMPS!!! RIGHT NOW!!!

  25. How sweet of Kate. She sounds like my girls. Josie's only been home a few months and Hannah is after me again already. Wish our financial resources were unlimited. If so, we'd adopt again in a flash, but, sadly, it looks like we are done.

The photo of Kate is gorgeous.

  28. well, i guess the question is...will she get what she wants??? i know it's on your heart and has been for a while by some of the things you've shared on different posts. so i'll be praying for your family as you consider this. i'd love to follow your family through the adoption journey again. but, i realize it's a major decision that requires everyone to be on board...besides the girls of the family! ha!

  44. I remember your post maybe a year or so back, about when Diana had decided to bring Sienna home. You had mentioned whether or not God had been also calling you to China to yet adopt again. You mentioned the empty stop at your table but how when talking to you children, Harry had created false illusions to what had happened when you brought Kate home. (like him having to quit baseball, which you had mention he didnt happen). Perhaps this is God's way of whispering through Kate!
Kate is so sweet and innocent, I love when you post your little chats with Kate! :)
Praying you hear God's word through this!
