lots and lots of stuff...

Thank you so much for all of the Disney recommendations!!! I am going to book our trip tomorrow and I have lots of tips to share in a post soon. I have ordered a few pair of the shoes y'all recommended and I will keep one of them. Gotta love Zapoos!

Will is safe at camp although he is really flying under the radar. Camp Utopia posts photos for morning, afternoon and evening sessions. LOTS of photos. They also post videos. I am not sure what Will is doing there because he is NEVER in the photos. I did glimpse him in one picture yesterday and he had a rifle in his hand at the skeet range. He also had dark circles under his eyes and no protective ear phones on. I am guessing they aggravate his scar but I sure hope they gave him ear plugs. I e-mailed the camp nurse right away. Yes, I am that Mom.

UPDATE~the sweet nurse from camp just called to tell me Will is wearing special earplugs and they checked on his scar too. I love this camp!

I e-mail him everyday but he cannot e-mail back. It is nice and quiet here but I wish he could let me know how he is doing.

Harry did well at the Judo Junior Olympics last weekend. He did not earn a medal but he apparently had an awesome pin and match. He lost two matches as well. We are really proud of him. This tournament is the best in the country. These kids go onto the Olympic team (the older ones). Harry is a fierce competitor and he is not used to losing. He is ranked #1 in our state. So, we were concerned for him. He can be a sore loser sometimes. But I must say, he exhibited gracious sportsmanship. He enjoyed the experience and learned from it. He was humble and gracious which is exactly what I would hope for. He was also motivated to work even harder:) When he came home to his friends and his dojo (where he was the only kid who traveled to nationals), he held his head high and told them how he did. Dave took these few photos...

Since Harry's Judo sensei did not make the trip to Atlanta his former sensei from Virginia agreed to coach him for this tournament. It was good for Harry and Dave to catch up with them.

Kate and I had a nice "girls day" on Sunday. We dropped Will off for camp. Then we went to Mass dressed in our matching Lily dresses. We came home and had lunch, blew bubbles, played games (she beat me 3 times at hi-ho cherry-o), watched Mulan and she painted my nails. She is quite good at painting nails. I still have the polish on:) Then I let her pick what she wanted for dinner. She chose "dump-a-lings" (that is how she says dumplings). So we feasted on some delicious dump-a-lings and chicken fried rice.

My creation

I have a horrendous sinus infection. I feel miserable and have a killer headache. I am trying to avoid antibiotics since I just gave up all sugar and yeast for 8 weeks due to candida from taking too many antibiotics. So, I am using the neti-pot, sinusalia (a homeopathic), and eucalyptus epsom salt baths. If anyone else has any other natural recommendations, please feel free to share. I am desperate.

And thank you for your prayer for my friend, Eloise's daughter , Vivian. She came home from the hospital this week (after more than 30 days in the ICU) and is making huge improvements!! Praise God for answered prayer!

  2. Oh, you must be so proud of Will and Harry. Love your mommy/daughter day with Kate..love those pics of her and the bubbles.

I've used Entsol...it's a spray but is a neti-pot in theory...just not as messy. It's over the counter but most pharmacies keep it behind the counter. I'm like you, I try to avoid antibiotics at all costs.

That's awesome news about Vivian, I had been following her blog and facebook posts. Hope you feel better soon!

  3. The Neti pot is a God-send! I use baking soda and salt. I'm afraid the eucalyptus might aggravate the internal tissues. You may want to put a few drops of the oil in a boiler and cover your head with a towel (how's that for old fashioned).

    A few more:
    -menthol vapor rub--under your nose.
    -saline spray
    -breathe right strips

Hope you feel better very soon!

  5. we have sinus/chest congestion/cough here in TN too! It's terrible! The dr. at my pediatrician said they've seen more winter type of sickness this summer than ever. Both Molly and me are feeling it:( I use a sinus rinse as well and have been using Vapor Rub on both of us. I don't have any miracles, unfortunately.
    Take care!

Regarding Will - you SHOULD be "that mom". I am a teacher and I am still that mom. We are their moms - that's the stuff we look out for. I am glad he is ok though!
    Feel better soon!

  16. Love your family updates! Your children are just beautiful and I love that Kate says dump-a-lings. Those are the little things that make my day! PS Sorry about your sinus infection...wish I had some words of wisdom but I am totally impressed you could play hi-ho-cherrio with a headache. I can't even play it on a good day!

  17. Hi, sorry for my delay in posting, but I also had a few Disney suggestions for you. If you're not staying at a Disney property, I'd also recommend the Waldorf Astoria Orlando... it's near Disney, is a newer property (they opened in fall of 2009), and also have suites which would be great for a larger family. Sometimes they have specials on their website. Also, for dining I would recommend one of Disney's character dinners - there are a few to choose from with different characters/themes. Info can be found on the Disney website (We usually go to Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary Resort). Also, if you go to Epcot, I'd suggest making reservations at the French pavillion restaurant Les Chefs de France - wonderful food and a cute Ratatouille surprise for the kids (watch the video on the Disney website if you're interested in finding out more). And lastly, if you're looking for something really special to do with Kate, Disney's Grand Floridian hotel has a "My Disney Girl's Perfectly Princess Tea Party"... I have not personally done this, but it sounds amazing. Here's the info from the Disney website:
The Garden View Tea Lounge hosts My Disney Girl's Perfectly Princess Tea Party, a fantasy-come-true with exciting gifts for your special princess (or prince). Princess Aurora may even join the fun at this enchanting party.

Girls 3 to 11 years old are encouraged to attend dressed as their favorite Disney Princess, and a parent will need to accompany the young Royal. Your hostess, an enchanted rose called Rose Petal or one of her magical friends, will entertain the princesses with storytelling and songs. As they sip tea (which magically tastes like juice), the girls will receive the royal treatment and perhaps a special visit from Princess Aurora or another regal guest.

Each princess receives a selection of gifts as a keepsake of her storybook morning:

    * A special 18-inch My Disney Girl doll dressed in a matching Princess Aurora gown plus accessories
    * Her own ribbon tiara, silver Princess link bracelet, fresh rose, special princess scrapbook page and a "Best Friend" certificate.

It's rather pricey... I think I read that it's $250 for a mother and daughter to attend, but thought I'd pass it along in case you wanted a really special experience.

We travel to Orlando often, and absolutely love it. Have a fabulous time!

  20. Sorry for the duplicate post… I received an error message for my first reply being too lengthy. No, I’m not a travel agent, I just love planning trips - LOL! I just got back from Orlando myself, so I’m still very much in vacation mode and am already planning for our family's next visit to Disney over the holidays.

Also wanted to mention one more fun experience. At the World of Disney Store at the Downtown Disney Marketplace, and at Cinderella’s Castle in the Magic Kingdom, they have the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, a fairytale style beauty salon that gives girls a princess makeover with hairstyling, shimmery makeup and nails (they offer a variety of packages that also include a costume and photographs). It’s over the top, but girls that are into the princesses love it! And not to leave the boys out, at the Disney hotels they offer fishing excursions and motor boat rentals (you don’t have to be a guest of the hotels to book excursions or utilize the boat rentals).

Ok, that’s it – love your blog and hope you feel better too!

  21. First of all....I LOVE it that you are "that kind of Mom"...all children deserve a mom like that:)

Hope he had a wonderful time at camp and I'll bet that was nice to have some girl time with Miss Kate. Praying for your headache!

  22. I am guessing you are probably doing this already since I know you work very hard at taking good care of yourself but probiotics work very well in helping your body fight sinus infections. Good luck and feel better soon!

  23. Loved catching up on all of your news. You've had a lot going on! Can't believe you're dealing with a sinus infection and headache on top of everything else. I hope it responds quickly to your remedies.

Thanks for mentioning Vivian on several occasions. We have needed and coveted everyone's prayers, and it has been amazing to see how God has protected and cared for Vivian. She is doing so well!

Hugs and thanks for all of your sweet support throughout the past month. Hope to see you or talk to you soon.

  24. LOVE the bubble pics! Good to hear you are having fun with mommy/daughter time while the boys are away. Sorry about your sinus infection. Hope it clears up quickly. Good to hear your friend's daughter is home!!

  25. Love the pic of Kate hugging Harry!!
I an sure you 3 will have a great week while boys are having the time of their lives!!

Feel better! The netti pot usually works pretty well but for me I need to use it easily 24 hours(4-5 times) before I really feel any relief.

Have been keeping tabs on Elouise and then figure out my college roommate is friends with her. Small world. So relieved and happy that Vivian is home and doing so well. What a month for them.... They were always lingering in the back of my mind!!

Hope you feel better so you can enjoy your week of one on one time with miss kate!
