Every year for Mother's Day, I tell Dave exactly what I would like. Being a marriage counselor for years taught me that spouses cannot read our minds and we would all be a lot happier if we told our spouses exactly what we want. Dave never tells me what he wants. It makes it difficult for me. He is such a selfless guy that I have trouble coming up with ways to celebrate him. So this morning when I woke up, I was beyond thrilled to discover this little post-it note....
First, I let Dave sleep in until 10am while I made breakfast for the peanuts and the two friends that Will had sleep over last night. Then he enjoyed his Greek coffee...
That is what is left in the bottom of the mug after Greek coffee. It is sludge.
And then he had kolaches....they are big doughy, yummy filled goodness...
Then he mowed the yard. Will offered to do it but I think Dave enjoyed the time outside.
I did not get a photo of that.
After lunch, it was off to the pool for some swim time.
Somehow, a race between Will (who is on swim team this summer) was
suggested....
suggested....
It was a 50m race (25m freestyle and 25m backstroke).
They were neck and neck for most of the race...
But then in the backstroke, Will pulled ahead...
and won! It was the first time one of the kids beat Dave athletically.
After Dave caught his breath (literally), he played around with Kate in the pool and gave her some swimming lessons. He is a very patient teacher.
Since he slept in so late, Dave couldn't really nap. But he did flop down on the couch for a few minutes after swimming.
Then it was time for a quick afternoon catch with Harry...
After that, we were off to dinner for crawfish....
As we were eating our crawfish, Kate kept saying that she wished they were still walking around (the crawfish). So our waiter bought out a live one for her:)
It was a Father's Day full of love.
Dave ran to the grocery store and plans to end the night by playing some racing game on the Wii with Will.
I hope you had a great Father's Day, Dave. I think we accomplished everything on your list (and the kids even kept the arguing to a minimum too). You are the BEST!
P.S. Will has a big week this week (a special birthday and some surgery...so keep him in your thoughts and prayers please).

ReplyDeleteYour father's day sounds like it was a PERFECT one!
ReplyDeleteAs far as summer vacation goes... the first three days were tough as the kids had to acclimate from going to a full routine to none at all, but then things settled, we started to get busy and now everyone is happy with only a few tears... which just happens to be mine... which just happens to be when I realize that the bottle of chardonnay is empty? LOL
When is this crazy diet of yours done? I am going to send you a big fat treat when it is!
XOXO

What a GREAT idea that list is... keeps expectations in check and keeps everyone on the same page :)
ReplyDeleteI love that his father's day included lots of time with the kids, and even chores around the house! Very indicative of a man that is very happy with his life... which is probably part of what makes him such a super dad!!
