So yesterday marked 3 years of blogging for me! I was so busy eating and shivering that I forgot. I do have a really fabulous give-away planned for my next post though. You will love it! In the meantime, stay warm and tell me what you crave when it is cold....
I am off to the store to get ingredients for Shrimp Etouffee. It is not too fattening but certainly warming. Then it is back to the couch to warm up:)
Kate and I have been doing lots of "arts and crafts" this week too. And just for the record, I am not an arts and crafts kinda Mom. I let her paint in my kitchen/hallway without a drop cloth. Can you believe it? I have come so far (LAZY) in my 12 and 1/2 years as a Mom.
The cold weather is tough for sure Kim!! I lived in Atlanta my entire life until we moved to NJ 4 years ago. It is hard!! My first winter I was miserable. It does seem to get a little easier each year and we truly value the warm weather when it comes instead of taking it for granted. Both of our families all live in GA and I must admit I've been secretly happy they are all freezing too right now :) It's usually only me and they are enjoying milder temps. Definitely during the winter months, we crave heavier foods. We eat a lot of stews, roasts, potato's, red wine, and the list goes on. We also get into the bad habit of having a dip type of appetizer late afternoon in the winter- I'll make a queso dip or artichoke dip and we'll munch on it by the fire. Stay Warm!

Kim...have you ever tried Mexican Hot Chocolate??? It is made with real milk and you melt the chocolate "disc" in a saucepan...it is so delicious with a hint of cinnamon....xoxo
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, great title! Love it! Right now in Indiana, I am typing next to the fire, eating homemade chocolate chip cookies. Cold weather is simply HORRIBLE! (Later I will run on our tredmill in our exercise room...There is NO WAY I'm getting out to "enjoy" our 4+ inches of snow!) I envy everyone who can get outside without 10,000 layers! Stay warm!
ReplyDeleteI'm originally from Michigan although I live in Texas now. I don't miss the cold days of winter in Michigan at all. We have been trying to stay warm here this week too. Soup always helps! Plus a good cup of coffee with Peppermint Mocha creamer.
ReplyDeleteIt has been very cold here in SC lately, much colder than I like for sure. I wouldn't last up North I like it warm. I just finished a hot lemon tea with honey, yummy. I do not have the fire going since I am fighting a sinus infection I like it a little cooler when I am sick but I am sure when Brady gets home from school he will turn it on when he watches a movie tonight. Good luck and the shrimp dish sounds yummy.
ReplyDeleteit is Soooo cold here, it is so unmotivating! we finally made to the gym and the library today, but it is just hard to get out of the house!
ReplyDeleteI am glad I am not the only one with all the stay on the couch and nibble on a little of this and that cravings. It is just plain cold here, VA. And there are no warm days in the forcast, only cold and colder. My keep me warm treats....latte's, chocolate, cookies, chili, soup, chips & salsa, etc.
ReplyDeleteI'm right there with you! I haven't been to the gym for 2 weeks because I'm to cold to change my clothes. Today it is perfect weather, but tmrw it isn't supposed to get out of the 50's. I'm trying to eat really well, but all I want are cozy foods. J just went to the store to get chili and chicken soup ingredients. Stay warm=0)
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about the cold and food--I have been eating cheese puffs today. Something about the crunch!!
ReplyDeleteMmwah! Kim, thank you for your friendship! Of course I can't wait to see the give-a-way. And you have always looked thin to me. The craving for less healthy food always strikes me in winter too.
ReplyDeleteI am SO with you on this one, Kim! I am craving really fatty foods, too. For lunch we had pulled pork sandwiches, baked beans, potato salad and hot chocolate for desert (with whipped cream) :( Booo! I want a nap...
ReplyDeleteHappy 3 years! Here's to many, many more!
Happy New Year Kim!! Oh my this cold weather can put you over the edge! Today I didn't even want to leave the house-it is bitter cold up here. Lucy keeps saying, "we like hot not cold right Mommy" I think I have trained her well:) Wish I were moving somewhere warm! I too eat when it's cold. We are hot chocolate lovers! Lucy has come to love it as well - especially with lots of marshmallows! I have made 2 pots of soup for this weekend and plan to sit in front of the fire as much as I can! Hope you all stay warm and enjoy the weekend!
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh since I'm sitting here sipping hot chocolate as I read some blogs. Ha! I am in some serious need of salmonella!! Kidding, of course, but nothing is fitting! GRRRRR!
ReplyDeleteGetting JUMBO w/some GUMBO is my title for this FRIGID FROSTY FRIDAY!!! No doubt!! A good chicken/sausage gumbo is my favorite "CHILLY WEATHER" staple!!! It is a chilly 29degrees here and I can't wait to get home and shower, get in my snuggy and sit down w/a nice hot bowl of gumbo! It's even better the 2nd day!!!! GIVEAWAY!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSHUT.THE.FRONT.DOOR!!!!!
I can't wait!!!
i'm with you .... cold weather = hot chocolate!
ReplyDeleteForgot to add!! 3 PEANUTS are NOT in the POOL are they!!!! Tell them we LOVE warm ROASTED Peanuts, not cold, frozen ones!!!!
ReplyDeleteScoot on over, give me a little room and I'll join you on the couch. Seriously, Ive become a homebody lately. It's too cold to go out. I love popcorn and Diet A&W rootbeer. Kim, no worries friend, your eating salted caramels that are covered in dark chocolate...dark chocolate is healthy right? Dive in! :-).
ReplyDeleteand LOVE LOVE LOVE Shrimp Etouffee....now that's some good eatin!
Kim
I have packed on about a pound a week since the cold weather hit here!
ReplyDeleteHa, you crack me up Kim! It's been quite cold here in Florida too, but I do love it being a Chicago girl. We may even have snow tomorrow morning!
ReplyDeleteI have been treating my self to Swiss Miss 25 calorie hot chocolate .. oh such a treat! LOL.
Love Kate's art work and yay for you!! ;)
Ok, so now I am craving hot chocolate! :) heehee and I already was craving most of what you said heehee NOW I have an excuse! The cold weather :)

totally agree about the cold weather and food/lack of exercise! and wow, it is hard to believe you have been blogging for 3 years, where does the time go! Love the 2 photos you posted today too, you are a great photographer.
ReplyDeleteLOL...first of all...your butt can stand a little extra padding ;) I'm absolutely freezing here! I hope it warms up soon!! I'm wrapped in a blanket eating m&m's. (and just for the record, MY butt does NOT need the extra padding!!)
ReplyDeleteI'm right there with you, in fact, I was enjoying a steaming mug of Swiss Miss Dark Chocolate Sensation with milk, not water, just last evening and plan to do the same tonight.
ReplyDeleteGin =)
Hi Kim...do you use the Momagenda planner??? I am in desperate need of an organizing tool. If so, do you have a preference for the Desktop or Mini-Daily??? I printed out some of their printables that you mentioned and they are great! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI don't like the cold one bit and literally have a non-fat Starbuck's hot chocolate every single day. I tell myself the calcium is good for me. :) The high tomorrow is supposed to be 7 degrees. We need to move south!
ReplyDeleteI live in the Caribbean... So we get to enjoy warm weather year round and I yearn for winter ;)
ReplyDeleteenjoy the quiet days at home!
I wish I could blame it on the weather, but I crave about anything chocolate no matter what the temperature is outside. I have such a sweet tooth. It is BAD!!
ReplyDeleteHappy 3 year blog-aversary!!
I live in the North... it's not fun in the winter! I'm the same way with craving warm, comfort food... very bad!
ReplyDeleteThe temps here in Aiken have plummeted... so I am so with you! What I crave are all kinds of soups, the thicker the better. Which means the more fattening! :(
ReplyDeleteCongrats on three years of blogging! As to the wintertime pounds... I would be SO thin if the world didn't contain peppermint bark and hot cocoa.
ReplyDeleteI live in Boston so I feel your pain. I love comfort foods like mac and cheese from whole foods and choclate. Also, if I must be honest cheetos every once and a while.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your down time, you've earned it. Please tell Kate her artwork is beautiful :)
Also learning a new language and living in a new country (even though it is tropical) can cause this same exact thing to happen!!! lol
ReplyDeleteI think I have realized that I am a stress eater! Yikes! Must do better for the next eight months.
P.S. You are gorgeous!
Homemade Beef Stew (preferably made by my Mom!) eaten with a few slices of crusty Italian bread with lots of butter! Otherwise, I make soup. Two best I make are Navy Bean and Chicken pasta.
ReplyDeleteStay warm!!
Happy Three Years!! I am with you on the eating..... It is all the sweets left over from the holidays. Cookies in cocoa or coffee.....and lots of comfort foods for dinner. I am hoping to make the Barefoot Contessa's Chicken Pot Pie this weekend....perfect for a cold winter night....but not so good for the diet.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!

Happy 3 years posting.. so glad to have found you in bloggerville and hopefully one day can meet you in person..
ReplyDeleteas for the cold weather.. well I complain about 50 degrees so I really can't say to much.. it has been in the lower 70's..
Hugs..
Stay warm..
love ya..
Have a great weekend..
Tell me about it! I grew up on Vancouver Island and thought winter sucked! Then my husband moved us up to Nothern Alberta!!! We just had 5 days of -46F!!! Yuck! All I want to do is hibernate and EAT!!! Hmmm! Maybe that explains the weight gain since our move :) I sure hope our sweet baby girl in China likes snow and cold;) Love your blog, I don't comment often but love your photos and writing!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Kim
I am laughing ! Maybe cold weather explains my own "butt expansion". Enjoy your cozy indoor time. And happy 3 blog years! I am finally back to blogging after a crazy few months.
ReplyDeleteI love to snuggle and watch a movie, although I don't get to do that very often.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you are still blogging!! Love your blog!
xoxo Michele
You are too funny!! You would be HUGE if you lived here my friend!!! I did have my hand in the chocolate chip cookie dough today!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the easel in the kitchen. Great idea!!! Maybe next week!! Because you know how crafty I am!!!
You have to go read the recap of my day.... :)
We had to get out of the house!!!!
Love,
Diana
Happy blogiversary! I can't believe I have been following your sweet family for three years. I think I found you right away if I remember right! Time flies when you are having fun!
ReplyDeleteI have packed on the weight this winter. It's ugly! We are eating lots of comfort food -- rich soups, homemade mac-n-cheese, etc. Spring can't get here fast enough!
I agree with you on the cold and eating. Warm weather makes you want to move more and faster. Those caramels sounded good though!
ReplyDeleteKim,
ReplyDeleteI am with you on the cold weather and the butt...:)
i do make it to the Y most mornings but the food I eat must be more than the treadmill miles I log...UGH!!
Love that you let her paint without a cloth. I always had those tendencies too...can you say OCD? :)
i know! we've had two snow days in a row (the ground is barely covered:))and I have no desire to be out in public...just give me my couch, fire, and laptop! oh yeah, some good junk food is always good too!
ReplyDeleteI moved to South Carolina for the warm weather. Where is it? I am cold! Coffee and a warm muffin helps:) Sending warm hugs your way:) Happy 3rd year Blogday!
ReplyDeleteGreat blog; love the header image and the Christmas day post. God bless you!
ReplyDeleteSo funny! I was just thinking the same thing. I have eaten ice cream...along with hot tea to warm me back up, several nights this week. We lived up north one winter and I HATED IT! This southern delicate flower can't take it.
ReplyDeleteYou always make me laugh! Especially when it comes to your "weight" - my all-time favorite comment was when you posted about how someone mentioned how thin you were and you said that you were small, but flabby - I about fell out of my chair thinking of Miss Proper Kim telling the world she was flabby (which you are SO not!!)
ReplyDeleteI have been baking through the pantry - I don't know why?? Boredom, I am sure. I will bake, frost, eat and then research treadmills on the computer and imagine what life would be like if I ran instead of baked ;)
Congrat's on three years of blogging!
ReplyDeleteIt's so fun to read good bloggers! Shana was always one of my fav's!
Ever since sophie came home, she would detail everyl little detail, but I KNOW she is BUSY now!
You do well in blogging too!
I think we all like to eat in Cold weather!
It's because we are "couped up" and get can't get out like we want too!
IT Sure does not show on you!
You are quite then as well as your family! So I think you nothing to worry over right now!
sounds lie you have great rcipes!
YES! I thik you have come very Far in 12 and 1/2 years as a mom!
YIKES no drop cloth! (lol)
and you lived!!
Get those groceries girl! and then dinner on the table and back to the couch!
Enjoy it now you will be so busy this summer!
Thanks for all your precious blogs!
you are GREAT!
Cindy
I can't believe you have been blogging for 3 years!! That is amazing! I have been following you for almost ONE year! (but I have read all your archives). It is cold up here in the Northeast, and I am putting on some pounds...but not liking it! :) I love your recipes.
ReplyDeleteStay warm Kim...anyway you can! :)
I am with you! The cold is making me crave everything! haha!
ReplyDeleteGreat job Kate...you get a big gold star sweetie!
