YIKES...Here comes IKE!

Thursday, September 11, 2008
Please pray for two special intentions...

~Our dear friends lost their loving Father/Father-in-law this week in a tragic accident.  He was struck by a truck while walking to work as he did every day for 18 years. He worked at a church. PLEASE pray for this dear family and their sudden and tragic loss. My friend (it was her father in law) is pregnant with twins right now and this loss is devastating to them.

~Secondly, we are directly in the projected path of hurricane Ike.  Please pray for our safety and everyone else who will be affected.  We are not evacuating as it is too late and we are not in a mandatory evacuation area. Plus, we are not even sure where we would go.  Our corporate apartment is on the second floor which will be good in case of flooding but we are nervous about windows shattering and losing electricity.  This city is CRAZY right now.  It took me an hour to go a few miles to Kate's school (YEAH--she let me leave today!)  I realize people will figure out where we live (general vicinity anyway) by this post but I am really scared and I really cherish your prayers.

I really appreciate the incredible support and prayers that y'all have given me and our family these past few weeks.  THANK  YOU!

Kim

  1. I don't expect you to get back with me anytime soon but we are praying for you guys and for safety and protection. My sister is hunkering down too and trying to stay dry. She said everything was already very chaotic.

We will also pray for your dear friend as they go through this sad time!

If you can think of anything that I can bring Harry from oldcity to brighten his spirits, let me know! (or the other peanuts).

My sister lives in your town (I think), but was thankfully in San Antonio today and is coming straight here. From what I've heard, your city is super-crazy with everyone trying to leave. Not even sure what to say other than may God bless and keep you and your family until we "meet" (via a blog post) again.

Our condolences to your friend and her husband. Loss is always hard, but particularly when it is sudden and unexpected.

    Take care,

  20. I grew up in South Florida and went through several big hurricanes. It can be scary but it can also be a fun time to break out the flashlights and sleeping bags and make a fort under the dining room table. Be careful walking the dog- the eye of the storm can be so deceiving. Good luck!!

  21. You all will be in my prayers. My sister lives in southern Texas. She is not leaving, but very nervous. Stay safe.

  28. Oh Kim... I am worried for you. When we lived in New Orleans, we always ut wide masking tape in an "X" accross our windows... the locals told us it helps prevent windows breaking. I am sorry your family must endure all of this! It is awful. I have experienced hurricanes, earthquakes, and riots, and they are so unsettling. May angels watch over y'all!

  29. I will keep praying for yall! I know this time of transition has been tough on you all, but I believe with all my heart that the Lord has big plans for you. Your children are learning to be flexible, the art of making new friends, exploring/learing about a new city, and that sometimes routines need to be changed or broken! One of your children could be a future president or an ambassador!!!

  37. From one hurrricane zone to another - I wish you are your family the best - stock up - and park your cars in different places - ie if one place floods the other may not - then you may at last have one car that works (I assume you have more than one car)
Protect your harddrive/pics of kids etc - the rest can be replaced!

  57. We are directly in Ike's path here in Houston. It took me an hour to get home from the Galleria area yesterday, which normally takes only 10 minutes. Anyway, if you are anywhere near us, please feel free to contact us if you need anything. I found your blog because Denise (and precious Maggie) are part of our waiting "July 2007 LID" group. You don't have to be in this big city without friends. :) We have a fabulous church you might enjoy visiting if you aren't connected to one yet! Anyway, I hope you stay safe as Ike pushes on towards us. Blessings, Michelle (www.JourneytoLily.com)

It is a nice place to visit but to live there no thanks. They are wanting to move closer North. We live in Michigan. (by the way I am Leslie's Cousin) and my step daughter also adopted a little girl from China, Morgan. We both love your blog. I will keep your friend's family also in my prayers. I'm directly in the path of Ike too! I've been praying it will turn and go a different direction. Hurricane Rita turned last minute in 2005, so I figured God can do anything. Good luck with Ike. I hope you and your family stay safe. I'm riding it out too.

  79. Kim,

Honestly, when it rains it pours - literally! Your faith is certainly being tested with all of this! I pray that God keeps you and your family safe through the storm. An extra prayer goes out to Harry that his school issues will be resolving soon. I have been through similar times with all of our corporate IBM moves (7!). Our son, now 18, was in 3 kindergartens; Connecticut, St. Louis and Houston! It is never easy but it does get easier. Take good care.
