As we grabbed a few things and got on the road, my dear friend Tessa was on the internet in Virginia trying to find us a hotel room somewhere that would take our family and Scout. So we drove west for two hours (with virtually no traffic) even though we had no idea where we were going to stay. Finally, about an hour from our planned destination, Tessa found us a room (YEAH!). Tessa REALLY worked hard. She convinced a place that does not take pets to allow us to bring Scout. I will never forget that Tessa. Thank you!!!
Another friend from Virginia (who we did not even know that well) had recently moved to San Antonio and offered to let us stay with them. They moved around the same time as we did AND they just welcomed a brand new baby into their family. I thought they had enough on their plate but I am forever grateful for their kindness. Thank you VS family!
So, I am sitting in the lobby of a conference in center in San Antonio with tears in my eyes from all of the incredible e-mails and comments and prayers from family and friends. Thank you for your kindness. We don't have a plan but reports indicate that Houston might be without power for a long time. So, we might try to stay out of town until the power is back. We have no idea if we have windows in our apartment or not. Luckily, we have connected with a blog buddy here and had dinner with them last night. She was so kind and welcoming to our family and I am smitten with her adorable, articulate and brilliant daughter!!!!
Our hearts go out to everyone who suffered loss of life or property during this horrible storm. I am especially praying for the family of a 10 year old boy who was struck by a tree branch and died. I cannot imagine their pain.
I am so happy you guys decided to leave!! I have thought of you all night and wondered how you all were doing....take care and keep us posted!!!
ReplyDeleteI too thought about your family last night. I am glad you are safe and together.
ReplyDeleteGreat to hear that you are all well and that you decided to evacuate!!! I have tears in my eyes reading your post. I have been watching CNN and the weather channel last night and this AM. They have shown a lot of debris and blown out windows in dowtown Houston. I pray for everybody that lost someone dear or their house.
ReplyDeleteGood luck in the next couple of days!
Anne
even with all this you are lovely and full of grace. i admire you Kim. Enjoy this little adventure. Thinking of you lots.

ReplyDeleteMichelle
Thank goodness! With all that you have going on, thank you for posting to let us know you are ok. I was worried about your family when the news coverage this morning went on & on about the possibility of broken glass in the tall buildings. I will keep you in my prayers as you navigate where to go from here...it sounds like you have a lot of good friends lending a helping hand. And I certainly pray for anyone who remained in the area.
ReplyDeleteTake care & I hope the kids are hanging in there on this adventure!
Dear Kim - I have been thinking about you constantly lately. Thank goodness you are all safe! Please give Harry a hug from me and tell him that I KNOW he'll be just fine in his new school - it just takes a little adjustment time. I miss him and his sweet freckles and his kind heart every day. Keep your head up - I know the move has been difficult on everyone but your family is so full of love that you'll be just fine. :) Give everyone my love and know I'm thinking of you... MISS YOU ALL! Love, Miss Kristi. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy that you posted this!! I kept thinking of you all night as I watched the reports on television, and I'm thrilled to know that you evacuated and are safe and sound. You all have been through so much lately!! You continue to be in my prayers.
ReplyDeleteI am glad to know you and yours are ok. Have been saying prayers. Keep us posted. ((HUGS))
ReplyDeleteKim,
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that you were able to evacuate and thank you for letting us know that you are safe. What a terrible storm.
I think of you all many times a day and pray that this challenging period of your lives with be shortlived and you will all be feeling a bit more settled soon.
It's been a wild ride.
Stay safe!
Wendy
So glad to read that you're ok and in a safe place.
ReplyDeleteMy in-laws moved to Houston last week, and were securing their new home the same day the moving truck was unloading their furniture. They are staying it out, of course have no electricity, but are OK.
Ahh, the kindness of friends. So glad that you all are out safely, but honestly, shaking my head for you having yet another unplanned adventure. Glad Scout is there with you and trying not to think about the reality of all of you in even less space. Hope today gets you closer to your ultimate destination.
ReplyDeleteKim, I thought about you all last night watching the coverage. I am so glad you all went to San Antonio. At least you are in a fun city with great food and interesting sites...so it can become fun for the kids. Be sure to check out the Alamo, the kids will study about it in Texas History. Here in Dallas, the wind and rains have just started..looks like it will track east of us...so only expecting winds of around 45 and 2-4" of rain.
ReplyDeleteGlad you guys are safe.
Keep us posted.
Enjoy your little "vacation"!
Norah
So glad to hear you all are okay. Hope you can go back home soon! :)

ReplyDeleteI just had to "check in" on the off chance that you would have an update. I'm sure glad that I did. I have been worried since your last post, and I'm thrilled that you are all OK. San Antonio is a nice place to "camp out " for a while. I think I would wait for the electricity before I would venture back to Houston. We will be praying for your safe journey home.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Chesnye

What a horrible story about the 10-year old boy. I'm glad you made a decision to move out and that you are safe. I have been concerned.
ReplyDeleteOh, I am SO glad to hear you are safe and sound...was just thinking about you again this morning while watching reports of all of the damage in Texas.
ReplyDeleteAlso very happy to hear that you have been surrounded by love and support - that makes even the roughest times a bit easier to get thru.
Still praying here in Michigan.

Oh, so happy to hear you are ok!!! Enjoy San Antonio..I love that city but wouldn't want to have to be there under the circumstances you are : )
ReplyDeleteI keep checking back hoping to hear an update. I am so glad you evacuated and had so many people helping you find a place to stay. Also glad you decided to find some fun in it and connect with a blogging friend. Head this way and you are welcome any time! I wish I could help you in TX...unfortunately, no connections at all! Take Care!
ReplyDeleteI am always amazed at the generosity and kindness of Blogger friends. I'm so glad you are safe!
ReplyDelete~Lynn
I hoped you had evacuated. I thought about you (and prayed for you) and the peanuts all last night while watching the news. Kim, I hope you are feeling the prayers and thoughts of people lifting you and your family up. It seems as if you guys are going through some incredibly stressful times right now. I hope you return home to everything intact and things start to get better and more settled!
ReplyDeleteThinking of ya!
Kim and Katiebug
So happy to read that you and your family are safe and comfortable!! Always best to lean on the side of safety. Good luck with everything- from the news reports things might take quite a while to get back to working order.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are safe. Thanks be to God!
ReplyDeleteThe evacuation was a good decision. I live in FL, and know what you were dealing with. I was checking your blog often- thanks for updating. Hope your apartment is OK!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you made a very wise decision. Stay safe.
ReplyDeleteso glad to hear you are all safe
ReplyDeletexo
I got tears just reading how you have been blessed amidst the chaos and how thankful your heart is. And when I read about the family losing their 10 year old son, I crumbled. I look at my 9 year old & can't imagine the devastation & what life would be like without him..
ReplyDeleteBe Safe!!!!
So happy to read your update. Wise move to leave considering the living situation. We stayed during Wilma but our house has glass that can sustain 160 mph winds. I know this a very unsettling time - your in my thoughts and prayers. I hope the power is restored soon.
ReplyDeleteI was so happy to see this post today and to know that you are all safe. I was thinking about you today, figuring you would not update because you'd be without power for awhile. What a blessing to have so many people working to help you get somewhere safely. I pray the storm passes quickly and you can return to Houston to find your permanent home and start making some great memories!
ReplyDeleteGod bless!
You are wonderful to post and let us know you are okay! I was thinking about you all last night and first thing this morning! Can you just drive to a vacation destination and have a relaxing week of fun?? Keep letting us know how you are when you can!!! God Bless!!
ReplyDeleteThis is my first time commenting on your blog, though I am a long time reader. I was watching the news last night and praying that you had decided to evacuate because I didn't want anything bad to happen to your family.
ReplyDeleteAdoption is a subject very close to my heart as four of my six first cousins are adopted- I am so grateful that they are part of our family and can't imagine life without them.
So glad to hear that you all are safe!
ReplyDeleteIt's so nice to have the support from a network of friends. Glad you guys are safe.
ReplyDeleteThankful for your safety; sending fervent prayers skyward for a safe return to your temporary home.

I am glad to hear you guys are in a safe area. I have many coworkers in Houston, Orange, and Liberty that have not fared well. Take care and try to consider this a mini-vacation :-)
ReplyDeleteI just started reading your blog and really have enjoyed your story and what you stand for. I'll be keeping your family in my prayers. By the way, what motivated me to post was to say that I LOVE your playlist.
ReplyDeleteYour bright sunshiney day is coming! : )
I am so glad to hear your family is safe. We went through Katrina three years ago and it was awful. We are well over 100 miles from the coast and we were without power for over a week. We live in a historic neighborhood in a craftsman style house :) and I guess the old trees had something to do with the power outages in our area. I hope you are able to go home soon.
ReplyDeleteJennifer
So thankful all of you are okay. We are near Dallas and we have only gotten rain. Praying for all of these families who have lost so much already.
ReplyDeleteSo thankful to hear that everyone is safe! I was so concerned when I read that you were staying.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it wonderful to be wrapped in the love of Him and of your incredible friends. You are truly cared for by so many.
Stay safe-
Hi Kim, I'm thinking about you and sending hugs your way. I am really relieved to hear that your family is ok....I'm very, very sad for the family of the 10 year old boy.
ReplyDeleteIf we were closer, your wonderful family would gladly be welcomed into our home! I do hope you are able to find a safe place to call home for as long as you need. :)
I have a wee little something I'm sending your way....I'm not sure when you'll be back so I might wait a bit...it's coming by way of VA anyway.
Be safe and I will pray for your family and community this week!!
((hug))
Glad that you left and are safe!!!
ReplyDeleteSo very glad you are all safe. I wasn't sure if my first post went through. We'll keep praying
ReplyDeleteMaybe the boys will see this as a great adventure!!
Robin
Ohhhh I'm so glad ya'll got out of there and I hope you all are "somewhat" settled for the time being. San Antonio is a great city, lots for the kids to do. (I know it isn't the best time right now to be thinking of touring.)
ReplyDeleteMy sister is in San Antonio and although she doesn't have much room (they are foster parents to 5 children)I know she would be willing to help in anyway. Even if you need a temporary place for Scout.
I am so saddened to hear about the 10 year old boy. I know so many have been effected by this storm. Many blessings in the days ahead!
I have been worried about you all weekend, I am so glad you made the decision to evacuate. I will be praying for you over the next few weeks, let me know if there is anything that I can do for you. My heart is very heavy for all of the people affected by this hurricane.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad to hear that you all decided to evacuate and are now safe. I kept checking to see an update. I can't imagine what you and many others are going through. I will keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers.
ReplyDeleteglad you are safe. my in-laws live in Sugarland and were fortunate to have had no damage, and already have power back on.
ReplyDeleteWe would have offered you our home had I stumbled upon you a few days ago. We are in the DFW area, and are an adopting family.
Take care of your family, hope you find a home that warms your heart in new city.
Thanks for all of the good food/supplement info....I was diagnosed with celiac in May, so struggling to work through getting better, and feeling better, and what I can and can't eat. Enjoyed reading from someone who is aware of the benefits of changing your diet, and being aware of what we are putting in our bodies.
you have a beautiful family, and Miss Kate has a beautiful wardrobe. I too have found myself buying dresses, and dresses, hairbows, hairbows, shoes, shoes to get me through the wait.
take care
Kim - I am so sorry you had to evacuate, but so glad you are safe and sound. I've been praying for you today...'may the peace of God which surpasses all understanding guard your heart and mind (and your peanuts) in Christ Jesus.'
ReplyDeleteHis guardian angels are watching over you.
Much love - Marianne
Glad your ok! I was thinking of you today as it poured here. Glad you decided to leave and are safe.
ReplyDeleteWe celebrated Hudson's 3rd b'day today....check out the special b'day alide show!
So glad you decided to evacuate. Stay safe!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you guys are safe. I know this is hard on the kids but treat it as a adventure you guys are on. I wish you were closer to SC you could hang out with the Johnsons we would love to have you all even Scout.
ReplyDeleteHello there friends,
ReplyDeleteI was part of the loop with Diana and Lisa, so I knew exactly when you were safe and sound, whew!
We have family in Houston and the daddy had to stay because of his job, so the rest of the family stayed also. We have been concerned but they have updated often.
I am so sad about those who have suffered unspeakable tragedy and keep you and your whole community readily in my prayers.
I am uncertain how many more adventures y'all will be experiencing on this wild ride you have embarked upon! At least you can rest knowing, God is holding you firmly and friends are lifting you constantly.
Love,
Heather
I am so glad you guys are safe. I know this is hard on the kids but treat it as a adventure you guys are on. I wish you were closer to SC you could hang out with the Johnsons we would love to have you all even Scout.
ReplyDeleteSo glad that you are all okay...
ReplyDeleteHope things get back to normal..
HUGS to you my friend..
Thinking of you always..
I am so glad your family is safe, and away from some of the trauma. The family of the little boy has my deepest empathy. I ache for them---and know too well, the long and lonely journey they must now face. I am so glad you left. We have friends who think they have lost their home in Galveston. We are planning a "hurricane shower" for them already! I am so sad today for all of you. I wish I could give you a hug. It is terrible to feel so unsettled. That was just a dreadful, terrifying experience, I am sure.
ReplyDeleteSo glad that you are all safe!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are all o.k., but so sorry you are going through this. Wish there was something I could do...
ReplyDeleteI hope the kids are alright with all of these changes - thinking of you and keeping you in my prayers!
Glad to hear you are safe. I will talk to you tomorrow! love to everyone - staci
ReplyDeleteI am glad to hear that you are safe! We had family that evacuated as well. My prayers are with everyone who were not as fortunate as our families were.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Rebecca
My dear Kim,
ReplyDeleteI just can pray and pray for you and all your family.
This situation is very difficult and I now, I realize how a strong mum like you can be the "stone" of his family.....You're great and an inspiration for me...
As I wrote, in this moments I would like to express myself in English a better way...
A very big huge,
Belén.
Like everyone who commented before me, I am so thankful that you and your family are safe.
ReplyDeleteNot only have you recorded so many memories for your family through this blog, but you have touched so many lives and met so many good friends. It is always amazing to me how such a small decision sometimes can impact your life in such a big way (and continues to as well).
Continue to be safe.
Meg
I am so glad you are ok. I said many prayers for your family. I know this is the last thing you needed right now, but I am so glad you are all safe and together.
ReplyDeleteSo glad to know you, Dave and the peanuts are safe. You all are in my prayers. Peace be with you.

ReplyDeleteThere has been so much excitement in your life lately :) Enjoy your adventure!
Cheers!
Thanks Good you're well.
ReplyDeletea very big Kiss,
Belén.
Oh Kim! Praise God!
ReplyDeleteI have been so worried about you and being in VA this weekend I was reminded of you at every turn. Ian was so worried for Kate, Will and Harry and that you had decided to stay. Knowing that you got out is such a relief. In our hotel we saw the storm and since we don't normally watch TV - it really did escalate our fears for you guys. Thanks to Diane and Tessa and V!
Please try not to cry - you are safe and have Dave and the children with you - We love you guys,
Ladybug hugs,
;D
I would definitely stay away if there is no power! If Dave doesn't have to be at work, there's no reason to go back right now. I'm so glad you got out of town. I think that was the right thing to do. Glad you're safe!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you all are safe! You have been in my thoughts! We had some of the remnants from Ike on Sunday morning and it looks like a war zone in my neighborhood. It wasn't a fraction of what you all had, so I can't even imagine trying to weather it out! eeekk. You've definitely had an eventful transition to Houston!! We will continue to pray blessings on your family!

ReplyDeleteIn His Grip,
Kam
I am so happy you all are ok!!! What a great decision to evacuate!! God sure was leading you! I have been wondering how you are doing, but then my modem went out and now I'm catching up!!
ReplyDeleteDebie
Your family is in my prayers. I grew up in Houston (and now live in another Texas city) and have many friends and family that had to evacuate.
ReplyDeleteOn another note, I hope you grow to enjoy Houston. I lived there for 18 years (until I left for college) and now live elsewhere. I lived in a fantastic neighborhood with amazing public schools. Once you are settled in a house, and the kids are settled in school, I am confident that you will meet wonderful friends!
