Kate's Homecoming Video

Friday, April 4, 2008
I wish I had words but I don't. I was telling the boys that the best four days in my life have been the day I married their father, the day each of them was born and I got to hold them, and the day Kate came home. That is why this day is so special. It is a birthday of sorts. Words cannot describe the gift that Kate has been to our family. I am writing Kate a letter today and I will write one every year on this day. Our plans to celebrate this incredibly special day have been postponed due to Kate's illness but tomorrow (hopefully) we will share a special meal, cake and a special gift for Kate.

This video has been such a labor of love. I have been working on it for almost a year and have lost is due to computer crashes and freezes at least three or four times (one was last night). Now that it is complete, I am so glad I kept starting over.

I just noticed that I put the wrong year of our wedding in this video---we were married in 1995! I guess that is what you get when you do this so many times and are totally sleep deprived. It took forever to upload so I am not fixing it now!

I originally included Kate's first year home in this video but Dave advised me to split them up. It is a good thing he did because I could not have uploaded it otherwise. Thanks honey! I will post the other one in a few days.

We received VERY joyous news today! Dave's best friend from high school, Karen and her husband, Doug received their referral today for their daughter from China. They are very private so I cannot share their blog but we are absolutely thrilled for them. Congratulations--we love you and we cannot wait to see you next month! We will always share a very special day----your referral and our forever family day!

  1. I have been following your blog for some time now and I just LOVE your movie! Wonderful! I cried as soon as "In your Daughters Eyes" started. (That song is in our 2nd daughter from China's video, too). You have a wonderful family. I love seeing your pictures, seeing what you are thankful for and I always admire your "Southern Charm". You remind me of a dear friend I had. Congratulations Miss Kate on a year with your Forever Family!

  11. Loved this!! Another wonderful tear jerker! Your music was perfect. I remember following your families entire journey as I waite to make my own. I am still in awe of your composure and restraint when you first saw her. I know you were holding back for her sake- that just shows what an amazing mother you are- when all you wanted to do was smother her with kisses and hugs.

Thanks for sharing this! Hope miss Kate is feeling better. Happy Family Day!! Can you believe it has been a year?

  15. Kimber--I just love you!!! I just read your post about your THREE ring circus!!! :) I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED IT!!!

Can I just tell you I am right there with you girlfriend!!!! :) We just brought home our little boy from Guatemala about six weeks ago and I am loving it! But... my sweet babies are nine months apart and it is crazy--a would not trade it for the world crazy but crazy still! I am still trying to figure out how to take two babies places that don't have a shoppng cart in the parking lot that I can grab :)

The THIRD must just do it-- I LOOOOOVE to decorate, but there is nooo time right now so my house stays unfinished and messy. I know this time is only for a season and my little loves are growing up sooo fast! I want to savor every moment I can with them. And like you said I know where my priorities are... even though I am dying to paint and hang pictures! :)

I have to tell you I LOVE your blog--I come often and lurk and I am so sorry I have not been a big commenter :) I know with having three you understand, but I have to tell you I love your beautiful photos and I LOVE when you talk about your kiddies! I have even stolen an idea or two from you! ;o) (Caleb --my oldest son and I went on a date before Samuel came home!)

Happy Homecoming to you and family!!! Thank you for sharing it with us!!! ((((cyber hugs)))) to you and your precious beautiful Kate :)

    My Kindest Regards
    Crystal

  25. Congratulations on your one year anniversary of Kate's Homecoming! What a special day and a very special year! I LOVE your video - I had tears in my eyes from the first frame until the last. Every picture tells a special story of a wonderful family sharing in the love of their new daughter and sweet sister and the journey they took getting there. I especially love the picture of you holding Kate at the airport when she looks up at you and catches your gaze - she knew who her Mommy was from the first time she saw you! Cheers to you and your family on this very special day!

I loved seeing the raw emotions on all of your faces on referral day, gotcha day and homecoming. Thank you for sharing this with all of us. Brings back such sweet memories. I am so glad that God brought little Kate into your lives after so many years of uncertainty. I hope that you can celebrate this special occasion tomorrow in true "Kimmy" fashion! You amaze me sweetie! By the way I have a box sitting here for you that didn't make it to the post office yet! I will be there soon! I think you will like it. I love the photo album that you sent, I will cherish it forever, hopefully someday it will hold pictures of our girls and us "together". Oh and I almost forgot the most important thing of all (yeah right)! Big News! A Home Goods is being built in my town!!! The same day you wrote me about your dream I found out!! You must have ESP!
Happy Forever Family Day to You!!!!

  30. Hi Kim,

You know I don't post much on your blog, but could not pass this one up....WoW!!!!

You did just an amazing job on that video, and it brought tears to my eyes as well. Kate will so cherish it when she is older. I need to try and do one for my girls.

Kate is so beautiful, and your DH did such a wonderful job dressing her. I was very impressed, because I know my DH wouldn't have Lily looking so posh and cute if he went it alone. I was really amazed with the tights and the hair bow. My DH still has trouble with both of those things...LOL.

Thanks for sharing, and I hope Kate feels better so she can celebrate her wonderful day. I love this milestone.

  39. Oh Kim, God is so good! I don't know what else to say...you are so blessed to be the mother of such a wonderful little angel. When Kate took her first look at you I was so overcome with emotion. I think I missed part of the video from crying so much.
Adoption is so much more than one can imagine. To be able to love a person who is a complete stranger so deeply is only born of God.

You did such a great job on the video. The songs were perfect. I'm so glad you never gave up! I know that one day Kate will be too!

Congratulations on your very first Family Day!

  77. Kim, this video is just beautiful and of course I cried~ when I heard "daughter" for the first time in the song and even more when you hold her for the first time~ the joy in your heart is so evident :) I loved seeing all of your reactions when seeing Kate for the first time, I loved seeing how the nanny straightens her coat as if to ready her for her family, how Will holds his crying sister with such confidence, how you 'glow' at seeing her for the first time and how Harry wants to hold his sister too! I'm sure there are more~ the whole video was incredible! What a beautiful family you have and you've captured it well on this. Happy one year together! :)

And finally....can I just say that I am so impressed with the fact that Dave had a bow in Kate Emerson's hair??? Did you caoch him or did he just know how to do it? That is fabulous...what a wonderful father!!!
