I love both of these quotes and wanted to share them today.

On another note, I am so proud of Will this week. He has been such a huge help to us lately. Due our circumstances this week, Dave and I cannot drive Will to school in the morning.  Will has been getting up extra early and riding the city bus to school in the dark each morning.  He has not complained once.

We live in the city.  In the 4th largest city in the US.
I can tell you that not many teenage boys are riding the city bus to prep school.

Have a Blessed Thursday!

  1. Kim...
From afar, the readers see what a special young man Will is and this is due to you and Dave! What a blessing to have children who can step up when they need to! He is such a cutie (do you believe in arranged marriages...hehe?) and loves his family!
Praying for strength, knowledge and comfort during this difficult time....especially for the peanut!

  2. I'm sure it's not easy to focus on the (small) blessings right now but I am so happy to hear you doing so. Yay, Will! And keeping you all in my prayers.

  4. I took a class in college that revolved around Elisabeth Kubler-Ross. Very interesting. Kudos to Will. Hope opportunities in your family are coming into focus. All the best.

  5. Dear Kim and Dave

I came across your blog a while back while looking for old friends and I sure am glad I did. I am an old friend/girlfriend of Dave's from a lifetime ago. I am so happy for Dave and you and humbled by the stories of your life that you share via the blog. I am a single adoptive parent of a 12 year old boy from Guatemala and this last post about Will made my want to comment. You both have obviously done and awesome job with the kids. Also, Sebastian has many learning differences that came out in kindergarten and today he is a honor roll/headmaster student at our local Episcopal Prep School. If ever I am in Houston I hope I can look you all up.

  11. Wow, Kim, that says so, so much about Will . . . how thoughtful of him. I've been thinking of you (and your whole family) a lot over the past week and checking your blog religiously for any updates. I continue to keep you in my prayers and hope things are going alright. Know that we're all concerned and here to help you any way we can. Peace to you.

  12. Riding the CITY BUS was one of the fondest memory I had as a child. Each stop you were "introduce" to different people among many walks of life. A single mother hurdling her kids to the local dept store, a restaurant worker on his/her daily ride to work, a few school kids who parents didnt own a car, a maid on her way to clean homes, and the one I will ALWAYS remember was a gentleman who rode the bus EVERDAY just for COMPANY!

He greeted EVERYONE and gave a WARM SMILE to everyone that boarded. He would already be on the bus when I boarded and STILL on there AFTER school ended! STILL in his favorite seat (right behind the busdriver). He would tell all the school kids "Learn something"!

My young mind ALWAYS wondered if he rode ROUND AND ROUND all day or did he actually go somewhere during the day and after some inquiring I heard that he would go to sit and have a bite to eat at JASON'S DELI (yes, I reside in the hometown of the original Jason's) and sit and visit the patrons. At 2:30 he would board the bus again and after school Mr Hermann was STILL in the same seat!! LOL!! I thought he sat there the whole day before I inquired!!

Years have passed and the transit service is no longer needed by me, but to this DAY, It was rumored that MR HERMAN still rides the bus!!

Well guess what, just a few months ago, I went to Jason's for lunch on a Saturday and LO AND BEHOLD there sat Mr Herman!! I went over and introduce myself and sat and talked with him. He informed me that he was now 88 and how over the years he had lost his parents and siblings and YES HE STILL RODE THE BUS!! When I got up to leave he said "LEARN SOMETHING"!!! :)

Times have changed have greatly change and I don't suggest Will talk to strangers, but I'm sure Will will share some pretty interesting stories about the people he "meets" on his route to school.

Will, I admire you on so many levels, in this day and age when it is considered UNCOOL to ride ANY BUS let alone a CITY BUS, you do it with the usual style and grace. You are awesome young man!!

  13. love love love your quotes today.

i have been thinking about you and what you've blogged about recently. prayers still coming your way, and i miss seeing you on the Frame This group.

This year we have three kiddos in 3 different places so our oldest gets up at 5:45 to be able to ride the bus to school. It is not ideal, but it is what has to be done so that we can all make it to where we need to be!

    Hang in there!

  14. Great quotes. So true...it is not just the ease & comfort of life that makes us who we are, but the trials, the pain, the hardships. Seems to be a common theme as I am reading through blogs. Thanks for confirming His message to me today! ~ jen

  15. Well Wills ability to just go forward and make the most of the situation speaks volumes about the incredble young man he is! Wow you must be proud. These speedbumps will only make him stronger, more resillient and even ore able than he is. Oh the things he will see, the people he will meet and the places he will go!

  16. When I went away to college in LA I rode the city bus to go and see different places since I didn't have a car. While I was on the bus I'd sit and sketch other people on the bus. I then would send the drawings to my mom. Last Christmas she pulled the whole stack of them out of her desk drawer. I was so surprised she'd kept them all. Kudos to Harry for jumping on your city bus!

  17. Will is lucky to have a family that made him who he is. Riding the city bus solo at 15 is a big deal. He really steps up to the plate when he is asked.

  18. Love those quotes, especially the first one. Thanks for sharing. Will is growing up a caring, selfless, giving young man - and its all due to his amazing parents. Hope things are looking up for the peanuts and for you!

  22. I've been keeping your family in my thoughts and prayers. I love the story about Will. He sounds a lot like my oldest daughter, Gianna, who has done her fair share of "riding the city bus" (figuratively speaking--she's only 7!) as we tackled her sisters' needs. I know you must be very proud of him.

Focusing on the good in each day helps.

  23. Will is awesome:)

The first quote made me tear up because it describes my Elisabeth to a tee:) I'm praying for your family.....sometimes the struggles make us so much stronger in the end. Praying that you feel His presence during this journey my friend...
