Overwhelmed yet Blessed

Monday, September 17, 2012
Do you ever feel that way? Overwhelmed yet blessed. Almost all of my friends and clients seem to be feeling this right now.  And I have so many things going on too ranging from planning a BIG birthday party for my sweet hubby to some testing going on for Miss Kate to some exciting and very time consuming professional and personal projects.  Most days, I feel like I do not fully accomplish one single thing but spend all day running from half of a project to another half of a project.  And even though my plate is full, I am so grateful that each of these projects is a part of my life.   Most of what is going on is good stuff.  So, I cannot complain. Believe me, I have had it the other way too...when I am overwhelmed and none of it is good.  We've all been there too, right?  I am just trying to balance it all and stay sane.

I must admit that keeping track of 3 children at 3 different schools is really stretching me again this year (and I know a lot of you do this too). I feel like I am just keeping my head above water most days. The afternoons are so fragmented and harried getting one child from school, getting another to an activity then turning around to pick up another child from a different school.  Then I race back to pick up child #1 from their activity and run home to check in with child #3 that he made it home from school and is starting homework.  Add in there trying to cook healthy meals, working, trying to exercise and housework.  I seriously don't know how people do this with 5+ kiddos!

When I begin to feel really stressed out, I try to remind myself how lucky I am though.  We have enough food and a roof over our heads.  We are all somewhat healthy. We have tons of fabulous friends and good families. Lately, I try to slow down and use the time I spend driving people places (which is A LOT of my day) praying.  I pray for my children that they will make Godly friends in their new schools.  I pray for the sick children I know.  I pray for people and families that I know are struggling.  I pray for my own marriage and relationships.  I pray for God to make me a better friend, wife, mother and daughter.  I am also offer lots of prayers of thanksgiving for this full and happy life.  I'd be happy to pray for any intentions you have too (I am in the car a lot). You can e-mail them to me at khswales@comcast.net or leave them in a comment.

Sibi has graciously invited me to join her again on her blog radio broadcast this week. I am really excited. This week we are going to delve into Motherhood.  I am going to talk about 5 tips for dealing with the back to school chaos.  How timely!!! My guess is that this feeling of being overwhelmed will come up during the show;) Specifically, we will talk about how to minimize some of the chaos this time of year and how to really be a connected Mother to your children in the midst of the chaos.  That has helped me immensely.  I have really helpful tips and examples of how to implement them.  We'd love it if you would call in with a question too.

The show airs tonight-- Monday evening September 17th at 9:00 central time. If you miss the live broadcast, you can always listen to the archive at the same link.

And thank you so much to all of you who listened last week (and all throughout the week too).   Your feedback was so wonderful and Sibi and I really appreciate it.  We really want to help people.

  2. It does get easier. Robert is away at college and Savannah is driving herself to highschool now. I miss the days of running from one event to the next, but I do have more time for myself. I loved the radio show last week and will be joining again tonight. Have a blessed day Kim!

  4. I remember those days well. When my #1 started HS I drove her to and from school which was 35 miles away. I got 2 benefits from it - one on one time with my girl and more alone time to pray in the car. Three children in 3 schools makes way for a lot of stress that's for sure. Congrats on your radio success! I will try to listen tonight.

    1. Katie...that is exactly how I am trying to look at it. I could probably carpool for Will but I'd miss the time he confides in me. Hope you are well.

  5. Oooh love your new header! Very clean and simple.

And I don't have kids but feel overwhelmed all the time! This weekend was a prime example. So on Sunday, instead of running errands before my 8 hours of meetings, I made muffins. That quiet time was soooo helpful. Just me and the dog in a silent kitchen. I get my best thinking and praying done while driving too.

  8. If it makes you feel any better...I feel the same way MOST days. I am figuring out how to cram more than 24 hours into my days.....somedays its simply not enough! I also catch myself daydreaming A LOT about moving to the country, the REAL country and truly getting away from it all and rediscovering all of lifes simple pleasures that life feels too harried for right now. In any case you are a smart cookie to stop and smell the roses aka count your blessings. I do the same and realize my "problems" would be someone elses blessings so it all relative. Good luck finding the right balance....you seem to be doing a stupendous job!

    1. Tina...I have that daydream too sometimes...a garden, and simple life but I think we'd both be a little bored no? And yes most of my "problems" are not really problems in the scheme of life.

  9. Love that picture of Harry and Kate! I think of Harry often when I look at little Lola. Will keep Kate's testing in my prayers. Hope everything is okay. I know I mentioned it before when you started making changes but I LOVE the new crisp, clean layout/design of your blog!

  10. Kim, where did you get Kate's dress in this post? It's beautiful, and so are she and Harry!

    1. Lori Borah made it. She does not have a shop but I think she operates off Facebook. You can friend her and let her know what you'd like. She is actually in China right now adopting her son...so give her a few weeks to get back to you.
