Like many of you, I had a few denim vests in the 90's.  In fact, there is still one hanging in my closet because I just could NOT part with it for some reason.  I think it is Banana Republic (yup--it is BR--- I just ran upstairs to try it on and it still fits:)  SO glad I kept it;)  However, it is a little shorter than the one above I think.

I KNEW someday they would make a comeback and it looks like now just might be the time.  Just this week I saw denim vests on 2 blogs.  Kendi wore one with a Maxi Dress.

And the Preppy Diaries blogged about them too.  I am really kind of dumbfounded.  And I still don't know whether to attempt to wear my "vintage" vest or not.  I have not seen anyone around town wearing one yet and our city is quite fashion forward.   Maybe this is a cosmic joke.  You see, I often just get rid of something and it circles back around (hello, lovely, long faux leopard jacket I was dying to have back a year or two ago!).   What do y'all think?  Are they really making a comeback?

Apparently, the redux J. Crew denim vest was so popular it sold out!  I used to wear my denim vest with maxi skirts and J. Crew bucks in college and grad school! It was so preppy. Oh, those were the days:)  Did you have a denim vest?

Oh and just in case you did not save your denim vest for 20 years like I did, you can get one now here or here.

And speaking of style, these are my FAVORITE summer shorts now.  So cute, so comfy, a flattering fit and delicious price point!  I also got the navy sailboats.

{Please ignore the keys hanging out of my pocket.  Harry took this as we were heading out for a chocolate factory tour...More on that soon.}

Oh and I got an e-mail from the gym that in June I lifted the equivalent of more than 2.4 AFRICAN ELEPHANTS!!!!!

And that does not even count my 2-3 times a week weight lifting class y'all.
Who knew I would like this?!  I am sore a lot but I am feeling MUCH stronger.

P.S.  Thank you for all the kind words of encouragement and support on my last post.  I really appreciate it more than you can know.  Y'all are the best!

  2. Was in Avalon so haven't caught up on blogs recently (by the way, you MUST check out the new Windrift...it's like you are somewhere in South Hampton!).
CONGRATS on the Smithsonian award!!!!! WOW!!! Incredible!

I just pray that overalls do not make the comeback...

Notice now neon is coming back? I remember those black biker shorts with the neon stripe up the side...wore them with a LONG tshirt.

I have a love hate relationships with Maxis as I told you...I can't justify a great bargain but then an extra however much more in hemming it!

    Cute shorts btw!

    1. Thank you Ashley. It is a GREAT linen shirt (french blue) from Banana Republic. I LOVE it so much that I got it in white, blue and orange. I got them about a month or two ago. Check online.

  6. Hi Kim! Too funny about the elephants....made me laugh imaging you with two on your shoulders ~ oh excuse me, 2.4!! :D Your hard work (and sweat) has paid off, way to go!!
Nehh to the vest (for me), although the first pic is super, super cute (must pin!) but I think it's just everything else about the outfit that I like. Not sure if I ever had a vest, just lots of jackets which I do love and would still wear today. I say go for it, I'm sure it looks cute on you and you can be the one to set that trend around there!
The shorts are cute too (you look so CUTE!) and I will have to look at those! I go through shorts like no ones business and was just shopping around (with no luck) this morning for some!

    1. Deidra,

The shirt is not denim although it looks like it in photos. It is linen and a beautiful french blue and from Banana Republic. Two of the bracelets are from a bientot in Houston (http://www.shopabientot.com/) and the other one is from Jess LC and I love it!!! She even made it a little extra small cause I have the tiniest wrist.

      You can find it here...http://www.jesslc.com/products/flea-bamboo-link-bracelet

  10. I don't think I can do a denim vest a second time around. I do like it over a maxi dress though. I'm impressed you held on to yours!

  13. Your shorts are adorable and I am loving them paired w/ the yellow skinny belt and denim top. It's a no to the vest for me but I did have a denim jacket which seems to be timeless. xo

  14. Rule of thumb...Clothing NEVER goes out of fashion, they just come back w/a few modifications (like HUGE PRICE MARKUPS). I still have hope for my various colors of leather jackets waiting for their come uppance! (Don't laugh!!)

PS For the ladies that are searching for the "vintage" jackets they can check the resale shops or thrift stores! I know Plato's closet has them for sure!!

  15. First time visiting your blog, via Sibi! Cute post, but I must share this...

While watching an episode about "hoarding" and keeping clutter on a Christian television program, the host shared that even though fashion does come back around...it usually is always tweaked just a bit...as you mentioned about the length of the jeans vest.

Just something to keep in mind for avoiding this season's fashion faux pas! :)

    Blessings,
    Val

  21. I love your fashion posts! Never had a denim vest but the J. Crew outfit you posted is great! J. Crew has had a lot of great looks this spring/summer. I also love your gorgeous linen shirt..looks great with your cute shorts. I got a pair of shorts, aqua color with white anchors, from J. Crew and my kids laughed at me. They said I now look just like my dad, who has always been a very classic, snappy dresser (very preppy. Though I doubt I will ever own a pair of kelly green slacks with navy whales on them like his, the shorts come close :) The one thing he wears and I love is the Jack Purcell sneaker. He's been wearing them for decades, when he was an avid tennis player and salesman for B.F. Goodrich, who made them orginally (long before they were bought out by Converse). It's funny to see them in stores like J. Crew...they are now a classic, but I have a latex rubber allergy so can't wear them...or Sperry's, etc. It's fun to see that his style has had staying power and he can still wear what has been in his closet forever.

  22. Love your shorts! SO cute!

But I am on here to tell you a funny story. So today I went with my cousins to the antique show in Brimfield, MA. It's a biggie that usually attracts the likes of My Martha. As we parked, we noticed this giant enclosed tent near our car. And I immediately knew what it was. I blurted out, OMG we need to go in there when we are super hot (it was sooooo hot today) because it's cool and delightful inside. My cousins looked at me funny and I explained that "my friend" (becuause I never know how to instead say a stranger I feel like I know from the internet who lives in a state far far away and will likely never meet without sounding insane) loves this booth. They sell very expensive bedding but it's air conditioned and they encourage you to relax in there. I remembered your post from probably a year ago about the pillows you bought and how you and the family cooled off on the comfie beds. We had so much fun and were delighted when they offered us the BEST margaritas (at 11AM mind you but whatever...we were hot and having a fun day out) too!
