YUM!

DSC_7515

This is my lunch today and I am eating it right now and I can say that so far it is one of my favorite  things on Ani's 15 day fat blast (also LOVE the banana shake). It is SO SO SO good (cabbage, carrots, almonds, mint, basil, cilantro, cucumer, almonds and apple cider vinaigrette).  DELISH!  I could eat this everyday.

So, here's the update.  It is up and down.  I am almost through day 6 of 15.  Breakfast and lunch are easy peasy for me (smoothies and salads now).   Dinner is TOUGH...really, really tough.  My family is eating regular food and I have blended vegetable soups.  I am really sick of the soups.  Some are good but I am just sick of them.  I get very grumpy and headachy at dinnertime.  I want real food then but with the help/encouragement of Dave and my own stubbornness, I have powered through and stuck to the plan.

Here is the good news.  I already notice a HUGE difference.  My belly is so much flatter.  I feel more confident already.  I have not weighed myself so I don't know if I have lost pounds but I can literally SEE a difference already.  And yes, my clothes fit differently too!

UPDATED: I did go weigh myself and I am down 3 pounds. Although that is less than what the author  predicts by this point in the plan, I am happy with that for now:)  And it feels/looks like more to me.  Both Dave and I had guessed that I was down 5 pounds.

I did take 2 days off exercise.  One day was intentional and then yesterday I did not feel good AT ALL.  I felt flu like a little.  I was sweating and had chills and just felt lousy.  I feel quite sure it was some toxins getting out as I know that happens when you eat this way.  I feel much better today and did my 50 minutes of step aerobics.

Aside from yesterday, my energy has been great lately.  I am not sure if it is the food or the exercise or the combination of both but I am loving having more energy.  I have been exercising for a while now so it must be the combination of the healthy food WITH the exercise.

THANK YOU so much for those of you that have sent me encouraging comments and e-mails. I cannot tell you how much they mean to me.  I seriously was about to quit at the end of day 3 and one comment cheered me on to keep going.  It completely turned me around. This is hard.  I have never eaten raw and vegan before.  I cannot socialize and do this which is also hard.  I usually have lunch with a friend at least once a week and we often have families over for dinner on the weekends. A few people asked me for the recipes.  I cannot possibly post them all but you can get the book here.

If you do get the book, DO NOT get an e-version.  I made that mistake and some of the print is unreadable.  In fact, I am going to request a refund from Nook because I cannot read some of it.  Get the real thing.  I so wish I had.  there are shopping guides and menus that are completely unreadbale on the e-versions.

You can also find some of the recipes are online here.

And I would like to encourage those of you embarking on a new fitness/health journey.  Let me know and I will be sure to visit your blog and leave you some words of encouragement sometimes this week.

P.S.  It helps me to journal about this process...I promise to get back to normal blogging too:)

  7. our family does a cleanse every 90 days using advocare products...and I tell ya it does make a difference. It's good to have those days of eating clean and taking the cleanse supplements for 10 days. It's amazing how good you feel and then loosing that belly fat and extra inches off is awesome too.

  8. you go gurl!

i have not heard of this fat blast diet so i really can't comment on it. it makes me sad that you are hungry and not happy at dinnertime. can you just have the vegetables roasted in the oven until they are carmelized? they are so good that way. maybe a little baked tofu on the side? again, i'm not sure of the rules but if you are sick of soup it seems like you can have the ingredients another way.

whatever you do i really, really hope you stick with it. being vegan is going to be the next big thing!
experts say that being vegan is the single most powerful thing you can do for the earth. that's over giving up you car and walking everywhere, recyling, buying 2nd hand, you name it. every person that goes vegan saves a minimum of 400 animals lives per year.

    hang in there kim.

    1. Thanks Janet. I appreciate your encouragement. This particular diet os really specific to revv up metabolism etc. so I am little afraid to deviate during the 15 days. Until now I had never thought of being vegan but I see so many benefits now for the earth and environment I am craving animal protein though. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't. I am imagining that goes away?

  9. So great to hear your situation and progess! It really helps to have your husband on board. My husband and I declared this the "year of fitness". He is down almost 20 pounds and I have lost almost 10 but have muscles I have never seen before! I totally get the socializing bit because it is so much harder, I almost want to throw a vitamix party just so I can socialize and eat well at the same time.

  10. Go Kim!!! So excited to be on this journey along with you. I'm so adamant about this change it even surprises me!! I'm 3 1/2 weeks in and I can see a definite change! I have had NO red meat in that a 2 week time frame! I'm actually seeing DEFINITE results! I can see the inches fading away and pants that were tight NOW fit!! When preparing supper for my family, I try to incorporate a little of "dinner" to encourage them to eat healthier! It is SO hard on a husband who LOVES MEAT, RICE/GRAVY! I actually now ENJOY shopping for groceries! I've even ventured into trying things I thought were totally gross! Guess what...they are actually not that bad! I've only craved for the scrumptious spaghetti that I prepare! My family loves it!! The scent of the sauce drives me bananas!! Or should I save...drove me into eating a banana! Yum!

Cheering you on from Southeast Texas!! Go Girl!!

    1. Snekcip,

That is awesome!!! I am so proud of you. It is GREAT to see results. I was craving meat really badly last night. Dave was super supportive and helped me. I thought of you yesterday as I tried a Zumba class at my gym. I was AWFUL. I certainly do not have that Latin rhythm but it was good exercise and I was able to laugh at myself.

Keep going girl. We can do this!!!!

  11. Kim, how did you choose Ani's plan over others?

    1. Jen,

That is a GREAT question. It was "recommended" to me by Amazon as I often look at nutrition books and cookbooks. The reviews were really good. I wanted something that was fruit and vegetable based. I have low blood sugar and this plan allows lots of snacks (all very healthy). And also..I am a little impatient and this one claims quick results and I can vouch for that. When I see results quickly, I am more likely to stick with something (like exercise and healthy eating).

I will say though this is HARD. Every single day by 5 p.m. I want to quit. If my husband was not being such a good encourager...I would have quit last night. Breakfast and lunch are easy but I have a headache every afternoon and am SO SO SO sick of soups (and I generally love soup). Today I get to start real food for light dinners and I cannot wait.

Between this plan and my daily exercise I am already noticing a HUGE difference but this plan is not for the faint of heart. It is a little expensive to buy the ingredients, it requires a lot of time at home (blending most meals) and I am experiencing cleansing/detox effects (mood swings/headaches, generally achiness). So, it is a hard call. I am not sure I will ever do this plan again (maybe) but I don't regret doing it this once).

A few summers ago my doctor made me do a diet (not for weight loss) but for a specific health issue and that was very restrictive. No flour, sugar, dairy etc... I blogged about it too. I lost weight anyway but it was 8-12 weeks and while I thought that was hard...it was a breeze compared to this.

  12. Kim, this recipe actually sounds really good!!! You may have just inspired me to give this a try. With all the time I spend on the road it is hard and I usually fall victim to something quick and not so good for me.

Keep us posted on your progress, I would love to hear how it is going:)

Have a great week and keep up the great work~

    xo,

    Lisa

  13. I love Ani's raw food recipes too. I have been following your blog since shortly after Kate joined your family. Can you please watch this video that I have entered in a contest and vote for me. I have had a really rocky road to motherhood. This contest has the prize of a cycle to ivf and would be quite life changing. Please share my story.

  14. I am joining you on your journey. I have much more to lose than you do, but I am determined. I am going to do mostly clean eating. I'm going to let myself cheat with a treat on the weekend. I've got a ton of recipes I have been collecting if you'd like me to post the links I would be happy to. I don't want to flood you with links if you aren't interested though. Do you like avocado?

    1. Yes Julie....I do like avocado a lot but I have eaten so much of it in this diet that I am getting a little sick of it. I would love some links to your recipes. I love the magazine Clean Eating. I wish you lots of luck on your journey toward better health too!

  15. Kim, thanks for the info. I looked at the Amazon reviews too. I noted the one where the reviewer said something like, 'this is NOT for the beginner' (raw food detoxer), and 'not for the faint of heart!' I'm impressed you have done so well, even if you sub in some 'not on plan' healthy food for dinner. I expect I'd last about a day and a half!
