William-Kate-Gone-to-the-DOGS

alg_prince_william_kate_middleton

I am.  I am really looking forward to the Royal Wedding!  I can still remember watching Prince Charles and Princess Diana's wedding as a young girl (yes, I am old!).  And I have always been very interested in William and Harry.

People often ask me if I named our boys after the other William and Harry.  The answer is no, I did not.  In fact, I did not make the connection until one day shortly after Harry was born when someone asked if I really liked Princess Di.  I could not figure out why they were asking me that:) Our boys were named after family members.  Will is named after Dave's father.  Ironically, we thought of naming Harry Charles (and calling him Charlie).  Charles was my Mother's father's name.  I never met him as he died when my Mom was just 16 years old. She felt that it would be sad to name our son, Charles but she did tell me that one of her favorite uncles was her Uncle Harry.  He had 10 children and was a really great guy.  I remember meeting him as a kid and really liking his large and loving family. So, we already had the name Harrison on our favorite boy name list and thus he is Harry. We often tease him that he will probably have 10 kids too! And now we have our Kate.  So, yes all three of our children share names with the royals.  And if you knew our last name the similarity does not end there.

I simply adore Kate Middleton.  She seems intelligent and kind and she has a gorgeous sense of style and grace.  I love that the monarchy did not force William to marry an aristocrat.  I love that he fell in love with a commoner and that they have taken their time to really get to know one another before marrying.  I wish them the very best.  I guess I am a romantic.

So, yes, I will be soaking up all the media coverage for the next two weeks.  I doubt I will get up at 4 am (I love my sleep) to watch on the 29th.  I will DVR it though.  How about you?  Will you watch?  Some people (like my Mom) are having parties. Isn't that fun?  Are you having a party?

  1. My mom woke me up to watch Lady Di marry Prince Charles. I sat glued to the television as she -- and her 20-foot train -- made their way down the cathedral aisle.

I so badly want to wake K&M up at 4:00 a.m. to watch it with me but I think I'll let them sleep and watch it again after school. I think I may just have to make some scones for the occasion!

  2. I am actually up late right now watching a tv special about the upcoming wedding....I remember getting up at 4am years ago to watch charles and di get married. There's just something about the royal family that is so intriguing! I can't wait for the wedding!

  3. I am SO with you on setting the DVR! I share your sentiments of the Royal Family, and also remember Charles and Di's wedding from when I was a child. I've been a romantic for as long as I can remember, so for all of the same reasons you adore Kate, I do as well.

Ever since Diana was tragically killed, I have taken a special interest in her sons. They both seem to have grown up to be pretty well-rounded young men. I think Di would be proud! I remember watching the funeral live on TV. Breanna was just a baby toddler. I was up in the middle of the night, and couldn't seem to peel myself away. I cried when I seen her boys and the loss that they were experiencing at such a young age.

So, YES ~ I will be watching the Royal Wedding and I've already been taking in some programs related to the upcoming nuptials. The only thing I'm missing, is my invitation!! ;)

May they live "happily ever after!"

  6. Happily, 5 am on the east coast doesn't sound quite so middle of the night! Although I will probably DVR it, just trying to decide which channel. And I'm much older than you, I was between my freshman and sophomore year of college when Prince Charles and Lady Diana were married and made the choice (which now looks quite unfortunate) of similar bridesmaid dresses for all my friends. We will celebrate our 25th anniversary next month and we shared that wedding year with Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, Caroline Kennedy and her husband and Maria Shriver and Arnold...but five years later we were all still quite influenced by Diana's wedding.

I went to London a couple years ago and remember reading in one of the papers that Kate actually goes by Catherine amongst those who know her personally and that the press just started calling her Kate. No clue if that's true, but both are lovely names anyway.

Enjoy the day....I may break out the last box of Fortnum and Mason tea left from our trip in place of my morning coffee!

  7. I love the similarities btwn the Royal couple and your kids! How cool is that!!! I'm so excited about the wedding! They are such a beautiful couple! I can remember watching Princess Diana/Prince Charles wedding. It was every little girls dream I'm sure.

Sadly, I can remember what I was doing and where I was when I heard that Princess Diana had died.

Prince William looks so much like his mother.

I'm doubtful that I will be up to watch it or having a party. However, I"m gonna DVR it.

  9. No, the smell is off the rose for me. After Diana, there is no other...lol. Besides I'm on the west coast and there is no way I'm waking up at 1 am!!! I'm sure she'll look lovely and William seems like a nice young man, but we know too much dirty laundry about the royals and such...the fairy tale is dead;)

  12. Kim,

Love your kids names and didn't make that connection until I read your post! Funny thing...many years back, my good friend was having people call her 'first lady'. At first she was puzzled, but realized that her daughter's Chelsea and Hillary, tee hee, made people think of a certain 'first family'. Just had to share! People actually asked her if she named them those names on purpose! You just have to laugh about it, right? I, too, loved Charles and Di's big event. What a fairtale wedding!!! LOVED it. Renee in Wa.

  13. I was 6 1/2 when Lady Di married Prince Charles and I watched the wedding live (at the crack of dawn!) with my grandma. The memory is still fresh and YES! I will wake up early to watch this royal wedding - I just wish my little girl was older so we could make a big deal out of it :-)

  14. I am getting up at 4AM to watch, with my daughter and maybe my Mom and cousin!
I do love Kate's style as well.
My husband is an Aussie, and they are much more into the whole royal thing. When we go visit his family, I can't believe the amount of gossip magazines they have! I learn a lot!;) But, my husband actually isn't into it, and thinks I'm a bit nuts for waking up that early! Ha!

  15. I, too, remember Charles and Diana's wedding. Seems like a lifetime ago sometimes. I already get up at 5 every morning, so I'll be watching. Sadly, I have to leave the house about 6:15, so I'll miss everything after that. No DVR...I still have rabbit ears on my TV!!! And I don't know how to set the VCR. Pathetic, I know, but such is life. I'll just enjoy what I can see while getting ready for work that morning. I'm sure there will be plenty of reruns to watch!

  16. I can't wait either. We will be in FL for Spring Break but my sisters and parents will be flying in from Belgium for Emilie's first communion the following week and I know they will want to watch it too so I already planned the recording on my DVR just in case... I always watch all the royal weddings when I can. I was born in Belgium, also a Monarchy and love all those fairytale moments.

  20. I just went into the depths of my DVR to record all upcoming shows, plus the wedding. And by all of the shows, I mean ALL of them. My husband totally blames you and this post. *grin*

I can't wait to watch this with the Tongginator. I was just a bit older than her when Princess Di married Prince Charles.

  23. Not much interested because of the fact they have lived together for the past 10 years--guess that qualifies them taking their time to really get to know one another!?

  24. Oh my lands! I can barely wait! I just wrote a blog post last night about how I AM the target audience for all the glossy magazine spreads on the upcoming royal wedding! I'll be there with my DVR and big bowl of popcorn!

  25. I must say I love all things Royal! Loved Di's wedding-watched every minute! I am counting down the days until the next one. I will probably wake up early to watch-I would hate to miss it. Rich thinks I am a wee bit crazy - but to each his own. I will tape it so the girls can watch. Lucy is obsessed with weddings and speaks of her future wedding quite often. She has a number of the details already planned out:) so I like you look forward to the big day! Hoping you have fun watching it all!

  29. I was up early as a little girl to watch Lady Diana get married. I loved her as did many. When she was killed I actually had friends from elementary school call and check on me. Sophie and I are thrilled about Will and Kate. We plan on getting up early then heading off to her field day at school!!
