15 Blessed years

Thursday, December 2, 2010
Today is our 15th wedding anniversary.  No marriage is perfect just like no person is perfect but I can honestly say that our marriage is perfect for us. I feel so lucky and so blessed. I cannot imagine life without Dave.  I cannot imagine sharing this journey with another person.  He is the perfect partner for me. And I love him so much.

We have been lucky because although we have faced very serious things in our life, we have always been standing by one another on the same side.

Dave is a GREAT husband.  He is 100% hands on and engaged in our life.  He realizes that family and marriage come first.  He wakes up every single day choosing to love me.  And I am sure that somedays it is harder than others.  But that is what love is.. a choice and a commitment.  I have written about that before.

So, this weekend we are going away WITHOUT kids!  This is the first time we have ever both been away from Kate for a night.  A very good friend is giving us the best present ever...she is watching Kate and Harry all weekend.  Will is going to another friend's house.

Kate has been asking with excitement all week about the big sleepover but I still covet your prayers that she does well.  I'd be lying if I said I wasn't  just a little nervous.  But we need this.  All couples need time alone to reconnect.  And we have not had a night away from kids in over 4 years (and this weekend we get 2 nights!)!  I am really excited.

Me and my honey

Tonight, I made a mussels in a (clarified, dairy free) butter, white wine and basil sauce over gluten free pasta.  We all LOVE mussels in restaurants but I had never made them before.  We had a GREAT family dinner and we all recounted a special family memory.  Dave shared with the kids what his parents used to do to celebrate their anniversary.  It was very special.

  14. Happy Anniversary! The photos are all lovely. I hope you have a wonderful time and I'm sure Kate will do just fine. It may be as good an experience for her as for the two of you. Pete and I have been married for almost 23 years and still haven't had a night away without the kids. I think we are overdue!

  33. Happy Anniversary! Wow, not a single night alone in four years?! Well, you enjoy your weekend! You deserve it. I hope we get to hear how it went.
I also believe it's very important for parents to remember to reconnect without the kids.

PS. A helpful tip or a know-it-all? For health reasons you shouldn't eat mussels where the shell is cracked. Maybe it cracked during cooking/stirring, but since your picture showed it I felt like advising in case you didn't know. My personal experience with eating a bad mussel compelled me to risk sounding like I'm butting in.

  34. Mia...thank you for that info. It cracked when I stirred them. I checked each one...tossed one or two that were open prior to cooking and any that were cracked. Luckily, they all opened during steaming and no one got ill. But yes, bad mussels can make one very ill f you get a bad one.

  37. Happy Anniversary Kim.... sorry I am late, but it sounds like you had a WONDERFUL weekend!

So happy to hear Kate did so well!

I feel you on the overwhelmed part..... I don't think I would have ever been ready to go back to work, but this has to be the worst time of year to have to return with all the added holiday stress. Only on day two and I am counting the hours until Friday night:)

    Happy Holidays~

    xoxo,

    Lisa
