A favor and a giveaway

I am working on a project that I am really excited about.  But I could use your help.  This site typically gets between 1,000-1,500 hits a day when I am regularly posting. The problem is...I only know where a small percentage of those hits are coming from.  It would be of great help to me if I knew a little bit about who is reading this blog.  So, if you can leave a comment telling me some demographics like married/single and how long,  how many children, their ages, or no children, male or female... Also, what keeps you coming back here.  Please let me know which kinds of posts are helpful or make a difference in your life. This information will really help me out. I will open up the comments so anyone can comment (even anonymously).

I started this blog as a scrapbook for our adoption but people have recently shared with me that it has made a difference in other aspects of their lives.  That really touches me and humbles me.

As a thank you, I will randomly choose one commenter and give away a year subscription to Veranda magazine (one of my favorites).

Now I am off to clean.  Our house looks like a bomb went off.

  1. I love your blog and love reading about your family! Your story of adopting Kate is also inspiring, especially as an adopted child (although domestic). I am 26, married for 1.5 years, no children, yet! :) We are originally from outside Philadelphia, but have lived in Arlington, VA and recently moved to a suburb of Chicago. Glad you had a great time in Disney!

  2. You probably know I am a regular by now! lol But I love how you have a sensible approach in your writing to life, family, parenting, friendship, faith and marriage. You are open, honest and share from your heart and issues. You ask for help and give it. And your photography is lovely to see. I can well imagine that you and your family are a joy to have in any community that you move into and it is no different with the blogging world. You are a respected teacher here just by being you. Thank you for sharing your life.

  4. Funny I have never been a 1st commenter on a blog...and I rarely comment...so a double one!
I am an (almost)32 year old single woman (for now!), no children (yet!), and I live in Philadelphia.
A couple of my friends were going through the adoption process and I got pretty involved with the process...and what a process it was! I truthfully cannot tell you where I found your blog, as it was about 2 years ago.
I have made several of your recipes (the one with the pasta, chicken, cilantro is now requested OFTEN) and they are always good.
It has been neat to see your kids grow as well.
I enjoy your fashion sense ("some" feel I have a Lilly Pulitzer addiction...).
And truth be told, it has always been a dream of mine to have two biological children and then adopt.
Also, maybe it is just me, but I often see "Christian" blogs...not catholic ones...not sure if it is just me. I went through a million years of catholic private all-girls prep school and have now finally built a wonderful relationship with God...so your words really resonate with me...would love to find that Bible Di gave you.

  5. Hi Kim! Of course I started following you when we were in the process of adopting Emma from Russia, but I truly enjoy your blog for so many reasons. I love your style in clothes and home, and of course I love seeing Miss Kate dressed up! Your family reminds me of ours in many ways! Keep up the great posting!

  6. Hi Kim,
My name is Ainsley, I'm currently 21 and in a loving relationship with my boyfriend. I am from Canada and I stumbled across your blog from Diana's blog "First a Pearl then a Ruby" (which is now two rubies as you would know).
I continue to read your blog because I have always wanted to adopt from China and after reading your blog for the first time (right before kate came home) i was hooked.
I love that you are a "real" person on your blog and talk about struggles with your kids and your encouragement for working through martial issues.
Anyway, hopefully that gives you a bit of information about me! :)
I love reading your blog and the few times you've gone private I've been so sad!!
    Happy November!!

  7. Hi Kim. My name is Reneé. I live in Washington state. I believe site meter records me from Carson, Wa., most of the time (but it will also show me from Chattaroy and a few other random places in Wa., for some reasons). I am happily married for nearly 26 years and have two girls adopted from China, ages 7 (Sichuan) and 5 (Guangdong) along with a son adopted from the U.S., age 21 and he has a son, our grandson, age 1!

I have followed your blog since I saw it posted on the RQ site years ago. I followed your journey to Kate and I follow you now to watch Kate as she grows. Basically, it's the reason people follow my site as well. They love seeing the children grow and change. I have found your decorating posts quite interesting as well.

Thanks for keeping open to the public. Our blog is www.daughtersfromafar.blogspot.com.

Thanks! Keep up the good work:) Reneé in Wa.

I really enjoy your blog for so many reasons.... I enjoy your photography, your decorating ideas, your fashion sense, but most of all you writing about the relationship that you have with your husband and children inspire me to be a better wife/mother!

  12. I enjoy reading about your balance in your life. You have a nice mix of photos and decorating and observations. So many blogs specialize in one aspect, and I enjoy those, too, but you have a great blend of topics. It seems to come natural for you to weave together aspects of your family, homemaking, health, and spirituality.

  17. Hello!

My name is Kristine, I'm 26, from Germany, female, unmarried, no kids.
I found you site when I was randomly looking at blogs about adoption from China abut 1,5 years ago (I have no idea why I even started looking at thise sites). I have lived in the US for 1 year and reading your blog (and some others I am following) just brings back so many nice memories about traditions and holidays that we don't have in Germany. Also I love reading about daily life (I know I am nosy) because I find so many ideas and suggestions that I hope I will take over when I have kids.

    best wishes from Germany!

The entries that keep me coming back are the ones on nutrition and natural living. I too love to see your home decor. The life of your boys very much reminds of my own so this is always fun to see.

  20. I found your blog just as your husband and son left for China to get Kate. It is the first blog I ever followed.

I too have two biological sons and a daughter adopted from China. My boys are 10 and 7 and my daughter, Lily just turned 4. You were a few months ahead of us in the adoption process, so your story helped me (and my husband) to know what to "expect."

Now that we've been home with Lily for 3+ years, I still follow your blog for your beautiful photography and posts about family life (i.e. "gotcha day"--to celebrate or not). I've also purchased some cute clothes for Lily from Etsy sites you've recommended!

    Thanks for sharing your family!

I love the longer posts that include more in-depth reflection or stories and the design/family pictures are great too. thanks for sharing your blog with others!

I've been reading your blog for years and have no idea why/when I started reading. But overall I just adore your cute family. Your sense of style in attire and home decor. And your beautiful photography. I am also passionate about adoption- that probably played a part in me reading this blog initially.

For the most part, I am a long time reader of blogs where I make some sort of connection with (even if just in my own head) the blogger. If I think that we could meet up for lunch and have a fabulous time, I'm probably going to love reading that blog.

  43. Well I"m a female, I reside in Southeast Texas. I have been married for 24 1/2 *25 in March! My husband and I have a combined family of 5 children, 30, 29, 25, 23, 21 and have legal custody of our 3yr old godchild *who is a relative* since childbirth. We also are proud Grandparents of 6 grandkids, ages 6yrs, 2yrs, 15mo, 16mo, 4mo and one due in Jan 2011! So you can see...we have our hands full!!

I can't quite remember how I found your blog, but I can remember how I loved following your "journey to Kate Emerson"! It was so awe-inspiring. I believe wholeheartedly "things happen for a reason" I found your blog when "our girl" was placed with us. Although our stories "slightly differ" in the introduction to our families....our love for our precious children resonates the same. I come back to this site for so many reasons! Fun, laughter, photography, decorating ideas, cute little snippets of videos of Kate *love those*, and just an overall sense of family! I also follow some of your blog friends who's family I have also come to adore!! This blog *along w/a few other favorites* is like MY MORNING COFFEE! I would like to thank you again, for giving us a glimpse in the life of THE 3 PEANUTS!!

I stumbled on your blog sometime shortly after Kate came home. I like your family family values, i.e. spending lots of time together, eating dinner together, going to mass together, among other things. I also appreciate that you're a Catholic family and I like that you incorporate that into your blog. Mostly, though, I just check in because Kate is so doggone cute.

  49. Hi Kim! I love your blog and am a regular reader. I don't know how I found it, somewhere in the adoption community I guess. I started reading right at the time you got Kate b/c I was in the waiting stage for Molly. I 35 years old, am single and live in Nashville. I love your posts about parenting, all of Kate's fashion (of course!), decorating, and your health/recipes/diet tips. I am not Celiac, but my sister in law is and it helps me to better understand how to cook for her or give her ideas and suggestions to try. My nephew also has a wheat and dairy allergy, among others. So it's good to read about how your family is dealing with a combination of dietary needs.

Can't wait to hear about the project you are working on!

  64. I am a 42 year old mom of an 11 year old daughter. I just stumbled upon your blog one day and got hooked on all of your pictures. I love your style and aspire to be organized enough to blog, but it just never seems to work out. I don't really have a good reason for why I am hooked on your blog because generally I go toward crafters blogs. I just like yours. Your family will always have a wonderful treasure.

  65. My name is Jennifer, I am a mother of four 3 boys and 1 girl. I work as a registered nurse in the ICU. I came across your blog one day while I was reading a friend's blog "Journey To Oakley", and I have been reading it since. My husband and I have been happily married for 9 years and are getting ready to start our adoption process this coming year. We are wanting to adopt a child from China with special needs. Your blog site has made me feel lots of different emotions from happy and laughing, to grateful and blessed. I really enjoy when you share those beautiful pics of your family and your everyday life moments. I think it's great that you share such great memories with all of us. Thanks for sharing! My blog is "Our "H" filled blessings"

I am especially interested in Kate since my oldest daughter was adopted (domestic adoption). I am also Catholic and love how your morals and values come shining through in your blog.

  68. I live in Charlotte, NC. I'm 29years old and I've been married to my husband for 2 years. I stumbled on your blog about a year and a half ago via Sippycups. I check it basically every day or every other day. We don't have any children, but I've admired the way you parent. We hope to have children in the future. My cousins (twin girls)were adopted 23years ago from Korea. Their sisters (white)were also adopted 26and 29 years ago through Catholic Social Services. I enjoy reading about your adoption traditions. I also enjoy reading about how you and Dave make your marriage work. We're a Catholic Family too and it is helpful for me (a younger married person) to see what has kept your faith and marriage strong. As a bonus, I LOVE your style. Your clothes, home decor, etc. are right up my alley! ALSO...my sister has Eosinophilic Esophagitis and as treatment she is gluten free. My family typically eats gluten free too and I enjoy hearing your tips, recipes, struggles, etc. It makes me think that I could make it work if we're blessed with children! Wow...I didn't mean to write that much! I hope this is helpful!

I'm 24 and have no children of my own yet, but I love your blog and it's something I look forward to each day. A few years ago I started reading your blog along with some similar ones for no specific reason that I can remember. The whole adoption process is fascinating and I love how you share your family, tips, successes, trials and pictures. I can only hope to have a happy, successful family like yours one day.

  70. Hey Kim,
I have been reading your blog for years now as you know and LOVE IT! I am interested in adoption so that is what drew me in initially. My favorite thing is hearing about what your beautiful family is up to. Also, I enjoy your posts about cooking, decorating, etc. Your tortilla soup recipe is a favorite of ours, along with cilantro shrimp and the chicken/penne/feta dish. I am 33 yrs. old and born and raised in Atlanta. We moved to NJ 5 yrs. ago for a transfer with my hubby's job. I have been married for 8 yrs. and have 2 boys- Preston, 6 & Cooper, 2. You are an inspiration to me and are such an incredible person. Thanks for letting me peak into your family's life!!

I have no recollection of where I found your blog, but I know I was following it for a while before we travelled to China. I love your honesty. I love to see what you guys get up to. And I specifically remember when we were in China and you linked my blog (on your blog) of our sweet Lilah Grace. God is good - He brought you into the equation and we were prayed for fourfold! Thank you!

  73. I''m a grandma of 3 - 5-3/4, 2-1/2, and 8 months. One of my sons was adopted at birth (domestic) and I love reading about other adoptive families. I've gotten great ideas for clothes and toys for my grandkids from reading all the blogs. I am also interested in your recipes as Celiac runs in our family and we all eat gluten-free. Also love all your links and it is from your website that I read the other adoptive, decorating and cooking blogs. It's why I visit your site once or twice a day and I appreciate you showing when the blog was last updated so I know if I am current or not. I was married 15 years and have now been divorced 26 years. I love in the midwest, right in the center of the country.

  74. Hi! I am Lynn from Wyomissing, PA. I have been following your blog since you went to China. My daughter, Kate, was adopted from Chongquing, China in July 2004, so I tend to gravitate towards blogs that are dedicated to an adopted child from China. That was my first reason, but then you had so many awesome posts that interested me so much- decorating, eating healthy, gluten-free, dairy free recipes, etc. Visiting your site is a treat after a long day teaching 27 third graders for this busy 38 yr old!

  75. Hi Kim,
I'm a friend of Rachel S's - we went to grad school together. I guess I started reading your blog after I started reading her blog about bringing Lily home. So, I guess I started reading about 3 years ago -- Kate had recently joined your family. And I just really liked your blog.

I'm single, no kids, her age, and I live in Boston. I'd always hoped to be a SAHM, but things haven't worked out that way! I also wanted to adopt from China, but given my current marital status, that's not happening! But I guess that's how I got into reading and enjoying all of the adoption blogs. Then, I feel like I "got to know" your family, so kept reading! It's fun to hear how your kids are and watch them grow up.
No need to add me to the giveaway; I live in a condo in the city and Veranda magazine isn't so relevant to me ;)
    Keep writing!

    Best,

  76. Hi Kim! I have been following your blog for about 2 years and love your posts about the boys (because you are successfully raising two well mannered, Christian young men in this day and age, something I strive to do!) and value your thoughts on parenting, marriage and family life. Also, I love the pics of home decor and Kate's fashions :-)

I am a married (12 years!) mom of 2 (5 yo son; 1 yo daughter, both adopted domestically) who works outside the home. I believe your site meter reads visitor from San Juan, PR when I visit!

Thanks for sharing a bit of yourself with us!

I love your reflections on family and marriage (I think your counseling background provides some real wisdom that I appreciate.) We also share a love of photography, but not of professional photography...which I also appreciate. ; )
Love your posts on family traditions too! And decorating. You have exquisite taste!

  102. Shannon..otherwise known as Jack and Palmer's mom :)

Palmer is so in love with your Kate.

I grew up in Philly and a small portion in Louisville. I am married to my High School sweetheart... 18 years now. We have 5 year old identical twins. I have many friends that have adopted in China. We did fertility for our boys (lucky that we ended up with identicals) so adoption was in our mind and still is at this point as I no longer can have children.

Your blog inspires me to be a better mother, wife and person. You post your honest thoughts, you do not hold back. People may not always agree but it makes people think and that is what is imporant. When Kate cut her hair...oh I could feel your pain. I am sure lots of folks could. I pray my kids never do it. After that post I went and talked to my kids about not cutting their hair. My husband thought I was silly. But it was a true fear I had...and something you had to go through. Your children inspire others to be better people.

LOL@ carolyns post about your garage. I totally forgot about that. Lets hope you have a 3 car garage. That's what our 3rd car looks like too!

I've enjoyed seeing your adoption traditions. Though we don't have any children yet, I enjoy hearing about how you parent and how you make each child feel important. 125. Hi Kim! My name is Mindy and I have posted comments on your blog in the past. I live in Manalapan, NJ and am married for 12 yrs, we have 3 bio children and brought our Jiangxi princess home 3 yrs ago. I traveled a few months after Dave. She is 4 yrs old. I have always enjoyed reading your blog and reading your tips on parenting and I have enjoyed your recipes...(The mozz, tomato basil appetizer is a favorite and requested at all family parties). While vacationing at kidani village at the animal kingdom lodge in disney this past august (we are dvc members) I started talking to a woman in the pool. She mentioned that she had once lived in Texas and I said "I follow a blog of a woman who lives in Texas" (you are the only person I know in Texas :) she then said "it isn't 3 peanuts is it?" what a small world...she said she was friends with you when you both lived in virginia..her name is Karen W. I felt like we both knew the same celebrity!!!! well, I thank you for letting me be a part of your life and share in your family events and I always enjoy the parenting tips!!!! Thanks again...Mindy :) milkmommy@aol.com

  133. Hi - I am a true lurker in that I read your blog but do not comment. I found your blog when looking for ones about Chinese adoptions. I am from the midwest (IL) and have been married for almost 30 years. My husband and I have 2 sons (ages 22 and 17) and 1 queen (age 8). We adopted the queen from China 7 years ago. I enjoy reading about your family - especially the relationship with Kate. It reminds me so much of our daughter - especially her relationship with her brothers. :-)

I find your blog honest and uplifting. It is not fake at all!

  140. I am married with no children but it's probably coming soon.
I started reading your blog when my Aunt was in the process of adopting my cousin and both of you had a very close log-in date. I started reading a few blogs at that time just to get a better idea, since we were all so excited!!
I really enjoyed your blog and the way you wrote and your family values so I would read every so often. Now that I am heading into the next phase of my life I am reading your blog a lot more now.
My favorite posts right now are decorating tips since we are remodeling our new home. We have very similar styles so it is always dangerous when you post those :)
I also love to see Kate in all of her adorable outfits!

I am also a decorator for fun. I like your decor and taste in artwork. That's how I found your blog, your comment about the light switches close to art pieces made me return over and over.

  144. Hi Kim. I'm 26, from New Mexico (but moving soon to Colorado), engaged and living together (we've been together about 7 1/2 years), no kids yet. I stumbled upon your blog about a year ago from a friend of a friend's blog. I hadn't been seeking out anything in particular, just wanted to browse, and came across a picture of this beautiful little Asian girl, and her Caucasian brothers. I was intrigued, so I kept reading... and then I went back and started at the beginning, and I've been hooked ever since.

I read because I love your style, your home, your family and your photography, but most of all I love the way you truly write from your heart. I love to read about your life and hope that mine turns out like yours some day.

  146. OY!! I am guilty of following through my blog reader. I delurk once in awhile to post a comment but since I don't have a blog, I don't see that it makes much sense to add my two cents.

I found 3P through Cote de Texas but was thrilled to find you were a fellow adoptive mother. At the time you lived in Virginia and were moving back to Texas. I live in a 'burb north of Dallas. I began reading because of Kate but stay because I've enjoyed how gracious and lovely your perspective is on faith and family. I have major food allergies that I am having to come to grips with so your posts on that are helpful and of course I love your style. I have learned a lot from reading your blog, about many things.

I became a mother at 41 to the joy of our lives. She was born in Anhui and is 7 years old, a true warrior princess. We also have one Yorkie, Lulu. Between those two, I have my hands full.

I don't blog anymore since my husband wasn't a fan of it and fiercely protects her privacy although he did get over his angina over me being on Facebook. This year I will be married 23 years.

    Take care,
    Beth

  148. Dear Kim ~ I have been following your blog for a few months. I found it through "My Three Boys and My Little China Girl." (I don't remember now how I found that blog. I don't know Jennifer in real life or anything.) I'm single, still like to consider myself young, and live in Louisiana. I must say that I don't seem to have a lot in common with you; I have no kids, different values, etc. That said, I love your blog. Your photography and family are beautiful, and I'm inspired by the way you blog a kind word about all the different people you encounter. This comment should include a link back to my blog, which is very boring, but it seemed only fair to give you the option to visit it, since I have enjoyed your blog so much. Shalom! ~ Rebecca

  152. Hi Kim: I do think it is time I properly introduce myself…I’m Judith, 53, married, living near Cincinnati, Ohio. I have been a daily reader of your blog since 2007. I actually stumbled across your site while nervously reading Rumour Queen on Feb. 1, 2007…referral day for your Kate and for our second daughter Isabelle. Izzy is now 4yrs old and also from Jiangxi (Heng Feng). We also have an older daughter, Abigail. Abby is 7 yrs old and we traveled in 2004 to Anhui, China to bring her home. I never thought I would be raising two small children in my fifties. I really thought motherhood was something that was going to pass me by…now I have two incredible little girls and a lot to be thankful for. Your blog has been inspirational…it’s made me laugh, made me cry and made me think. After a crazy day with the kids…when I think my head is going to explode…I so look forward to stealing a couple of minutes to read your blog. I love your honesty, sense of humor…all the great decorating and shopping tips….recipes..and all the thoughts about marriage, kids and just the stuff of life. I particularly remember reading the posts while your husband and son were in China. I studied the pictures from the civil affairs office in Nanchang in great detail….as I would be in the very same room in just a couple of weeks. When I did walk in that room a couple of weeks later. gosh….it did feel familiar…thanks for those posts. You have been a great “friend” over the years…you have a beautiful family…and I will take this opportunity to thank you for all the great stories, great pictures and for sharing.

I lived in China several years ago and I love following families with children from China. However, I stopped reading it for a while when I moved across the country. I later came across your site due to your home decorating posts and it was so great to see your family doing well. I'm amazed at your clean house, your sweet kids, your loving husband, and you seem very "southern belle" to me- remind me of a very dear friend. I love hearing about your Christianity (very inspiring, to someone who really doesn't know alot about religion, though definitely a Christian!) Your house is deocrated beautifully, and I love seeing your ideas and how you can still have 3 full of energy children live in your beautiful house- while not breaking anything AND keeping it picked up and clean! (Never see dust in any of your pictures!:)) I also like to read about your "not so great moments" like dropping off the kids at school in your jammies, or having Kate throw temper tantrums, but sitting down on the sidewalk (when she was younger). Love your blog for many reasons- one of the first ones I look at every morning.- M

  159. Hi,
I'm 41 married and have two daughters ages 8 and 4 both adopted from China. My 8 year old was adopted at 8 months in 2003 and my 4 year old (5 in December) was adopted at 2 1/2 in 2007. I keep coming back for the obvious adoption to China part of it AND I enjoy our decorating tidbits. To be honest I live a totally different life style and although I enjoy the finer things in life my husband pastors a very small church and I stay home so we live on a shoe string budget. It's hard a times to be able to afford nicer things. I love when you find a deal on Kate's clothes and share with us. I've been able to copy some of the styles for my own girls as well. I just like to peek into a world of elegance. :)

Why I read this Blog( Kim, sorry about my english, please)

I "discovered" your Blog by serendipity. My chinese niece had just arrive to Spain and I wanted to know a bit more about adoption.
Then, little by little, while I was reading your Blog I realized that you were "so mummy" as I was. You express your mum feelings in such a beautiful and realistic way...You have taught me to be a better mum...just with little things...For example, I remember a post where you told us that you liked to spend each day a little time ( at nights) with each of your children...I started as well and know I love this little time with each of my four blessings.

I would like to comment more in your Blog but I think my English is soooo bad.......

I keep visiting your blog for many reasons; adoption, your stories about your family, decorating, health issues, and connecting thru on your blog roll (i've found so many great blogs thru yours!). We were at Disney the same time as you and I kept my eye out but never spotted you guys (and the heat/humidity was oppressive so my eyes were not focusing all the way! ;) ). I stumbled on your blog through Long Road to China and have been followed you for the last year or two. I think initially I was anxious to "check out" what being an adoptive mother was like! My husband and I had gone through IVF and miscarraiges and I was "exploring" about adoption on the computer! In a way, you encouraged me to keep going with my dream of being a mum and im so glad we didnt give up! I too like your sense of style. I have 4 sisters, two of which are on a gluten free diet. I suspect that I may have a mild degree of it as well. Debbie

Hi Kim! I'm a 37 year old mom and stepmom. I live in a small town in Arkansas, and first found your blog when I was living in a new town with my new husband and stepchildren- I guess I was looking for anything to help me with the transition from single to wife and mother! Now I have a one year old of my own and have jumped on the blogging bandwagon, too!

Love your photography, posts about motherhood, and I like your sense of style! It is fun to see how someone else does things- because we all have our own methods!

  182. I'm a 38-year old married for 10 years mother of 2 girls (ages 9 and 3) from Central Arkansas. I happened upon your blog through a link from another blog that I follow. I keep coming back to see the fabulous photography, the adorable kids, and just to follow the interesting stories. I'm inspired by your dedication to your families health and diets. I'm trying to make improvements in that aspect of our lives as well.

It would also give Kate a chance to meet with other little girls from China. Mark and Kuovonne have 2 little girls, the Cannon Family have 1 and there's many new families in the group!

I also love your photography and the adorable things you make for Kate, it reminds me of when I was that little and my Mom did those types of things for me! :)

  191. Hi Kim, I don't remember how I got linked to your blog, as I don't have a blog. But I think we were moving from Florida to Missouri, about the same time you moved to Texas. We too left a house I loved. I love your seeing your decorating skills... and of course your family is adorable too. Some of your blog links are now among my daily reads also. I'm married and have a son 24 who just moved back home after graduating from FSU to work on his masters and a daughter 19 who is a sophomore at FSU.

  192. Hi Kim,

I have been following for quite some time now (I think since right after you brought Kate home). I am married, almost 30 and no kiddos as of yet. I have a heart for my family, faith, adoption and travel. I can't remember if I found your blog through Diana, or I found Diana's through yours....it was a while ago!

I keep coming back because of your posts. The kids are adorable and it is fun watching them change through pictures BUT you inspire me with all the things you are passionate about. Although I might not have thought about things how you present them, or maybe not even agree, they make me think and quite a few touch my heart. As a young woman it is such an honor to see a wife and mother who makes a bit of time for not only her kids, but all her many passions in her life. Thank you for inspiring me...I know one day I will be a mom (hopefully through birth and adoption) and it is in part due to your story and all the other families out there that share little glimpses of your stories:)

Blessings to you and your family, Ashley

  193. Kim,

I've read your blog for at least two years now. Love how you share your heart, your decorating finds, your wonderful recipes and your beautiful family! Really, really love to hear Kate on your videos. She is darling!!

At 45, I found myself not married and still longing to be a mom. While I may not have made the "right" decision earlier in life to marry... God showed me that He had a precious child, a world away, who needed a mommy. So, in May of 2005, I traveled to China to bring home my precious Eliza Grace. I'm a southern girl, from Mississippi, who lives in Virginia. Love it here... but really miss family.

    Blessings to you!

  194. Hi Kim,
My name is Mia, I'm 32 and I live in Denmark. I was adopted from Korea at 6 months and have had a very good adopted life.
I've been with my boyfriend for 11½ years and we are getting married this summer - if we can get it together by then because it isn't that big a deal to either of us. Things are working great without the paperwork ;)

We don't have any kids and don't plan to have any. Fortunately we agree on this. It's partly because we love the freedom of not having kids (we love traveling and such) and mostly because I have psychological issues (stress, anxiety) that in my opinion wouldn't allow me to be the kind of mother I would want to. If I can't give a kid 100% I'd rather give none and instead just spoil my hubby.

If memory serves I first found your blog through Yoon's Blur. I think Melissa linked your "Treading very muddy waters.." post on that whole gotcha day discussion and I was hooked from the first read.

I think someone called you "Sweet Kim" and your gentle, but honest and often funny way of writing is definitely one of the reasons I've bookmarked you. Your love, care and respect for every subject you write about is evident.

I'm also madly in love with your photography! You take the most beautiful pictures and your pictures was what made me switch from a compact point and shoot to a DSLR. So now I know your pictures are so beautiful because of you and not the camera! ;)

One may think you and I couldn't have more different lives and beliefs and interests, but your way of letting your readers in is what keeps me coming back whether the topic is decorating, the kids or the weather. You have such a warm personality, it just makes me wanna be your friend! But I'll settle for the blog ;)

I apologize for the long comment. I just had to take advantage of finally being able to comment ;)

  195. Hi! I read pretty regularly. I am 30 and married (about 3 years) and expecting our first child. I read because my husband and I would love to adopt and I have loved watching your family expand with Kate. Also, you have some of the BEST decor advice and links. I love your style.

  199. Dear Kim,
I have been wanting to comment on your blog for so long and am so happy to finally be able too! I am a 41 year old SAHM, I have 2 sons and a precious baby daughter from Jiangxi!

I can't remember how I found your blog, but I do remember it was last December. We had just been home for about a month from China and our life was upside down with busyness and I was exhausted. I finally got the baby down for the night and was reading some blogs. I linked up to yours and I can't remember exactly what I read, but I just had tears rolling down my face because you had blogged about something I was going through with all the adjustment. After that I was hooked. I began reading your blog like a book ~ you are so inspiring.

I love your recipes, your photography, your style and that you share your faith. Also, that you seem to just keep it real.

We have so much in common with our 3 kids ~ I would love to be your friend! But like a previous commenter said, I'll just settle for your blog!

I don't blog right now, but am thinking about starting after the holidays to keep track of "life".

Sorry for the long post... thanks for sharing your beautiful life!

    Kathryn

  200. Hi Kim,

I found your blog two years ago when a friend of mine from Alabama was adopting her little girl from China. I have been following you ever since. I am 32 and have been married 3.5 years to my wonderful husband. After a 2 year struggle with infertility we are expecting our first child in May. I enjoy your decorating tips, photography, and catching a glimpse of the life of your sweet peanuts. Your children seem to have wonderful manners and I hope that is something my husband and I can instill in our child! Blessings to you and yours.
