Will is on his way to camp. Kate and I got up ridiculously early this morning and took him to the drop-off point to begin his journey. He will be gone for 2 weeks. The only other time I have been away from him that long is when he and Dave traveled to China to adopt Kate. It is going to be tough.
Will and Harry are a lot alike in some ways but they approach camp completely differently. Will has been studying the suggested packing list for weeks, gathering his items, pestering me to buy a million new items to take. He plans his clothes, his books, his every activity. He starts thinking about what he will buy at the camp store with the money we have deposited. He wants something new to wear to each theme/party night (I do not acquiesce to this request.) His favorite camp activities are shooting skeet, riflery, and the ropes course. How ironic that he LOVES all of the shooting stuff. That is probably because I have been the ultimate "anti-gun" Mom.
(Kate is wearing a Christmas nightgown--it was really early!)
Will is about the sweetest guy you will ever meet. He is thoughtful and compassionate. He will always ask about you. He apologizes readily when he has done something wrong and he feels truly remorseful. He tries to help me when he sees me struggling whether it is with groceries or his younger siblings.
But BOY can the kid talk. Will talks non-stop sometimes. Seriously, he can give a girl a headache. So, I was kinda looking forward to his departure for camp...just for a little quiet.
But he's only been gone an hour and I already miss the sound of his voice:)
Now I will be stalking the camp website all afternoon and evening for a photo of him on property safe and sound!
Just think of all the fun he is going to have. (That's how I'd make it during my time apart!) Maybe you'll be able to get some great projects accomplished. Hope you are doing well!
ReplyDeleteHe looks very ready to go! I hope he enjoys. And, I know you will miss him but a change for everyone is always good.
ReplyDeleteWill sounds like a lovely, caring young man. funny thing, he reminds me of someone who's blog I love to follow.

Isn't it amazing how they make us crazy one minute and when they are gone, we mist them like crazy?!?!? Oh, and S went to R******t.
ReplyDeleteYes, Will is going to totally bless someone else with this chatter and his vibrant personality this week. Just think of the gift you are giving someone else by sharing your son!!
ReplyDeleteOh, I know you will miss him!!! He is such a cutie. I love these pics. The first one is so telling...Will's face is excited and happy and Kate's face is somber and sad :( I know you guys will miss your big boy, but he will have so much fun.
ReplyDeleteAs for the talking...I'd like to match ya....I bet Paige could out talk Will any day! What is it with the constant chatter??? Sometimes I just tell Paige to not talk for five minutes and we make it a game..lol!
Hey just wondering could he possibly going to a camp that starts with K??????? We use to send our older two there everyyear when they were younger and we loved it!
ReplyDeletecamp is so great in that you get to really spend some quality time with the little ones that are still home, and hopefully get some time to yourself... but gosh it is so hard and each year I miss them at least as much as the year before!
ReplyDeleteHe is going to have the BEST time and will be back in no time... honest! Meantime, can we make a deal? If he's not married at 30... I have this really cute 11 year old daughter... ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for your sweet compliments! Bathing suits are all Land's End. They fit me well and flatter me as well as any suit can. I buy all my skirts separately. That one is Land's End as well. No one will see my big white b.u.t.t!!!
My step-son always went to camp for a month in the hill country. I think he felt like it was about 4 days instead of 30! He loved going so much and it was the same camp my husband went to. I wish they had parents summer camp where we could play all day!
ReplyDeleteI actually just requested the info for Hayden. She can start camp when she is 8, and I am told that we will have to put her on the waiting list when she is like 4 or 5! Crazy, can't even imagine her leaving home for 5 minutes much less longer. Good thing I have years to prepare. It is always such a good experience for them!!!
Hope you all don't miss him too much!!
Such a sweet post Kim. I know that has got to be hard to have him gone. Barrington and Britton used to go for two weeks to a camp that their grandparents put together just for them up at Orcas Island they dubbed Camp Runamuk. I would be in actual pain to have them gone but then a funny thing happened and I began to find it very relaxing. lol
ReplyDeleteHope it all goes well!!
PS, come see this sonoma square post I just did when you get a chance, there was this blue tshirt dress I got a shot of, thought of you when I saw it!!
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine how you will miss him! He will have a wonderful time!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Robin
Hello! I just found your blog and love it already!
ReplyDeleteCould you do a blog post on tips for what makes a good spouse....qualities that carry a marriage for the long haul? I have a 18 year old daughter and I would love for her to have a check list of what to look for in good men who made good mates and fathers.
Thanks for considering the suggestion!
He will have a blast and make all kinds of new friends!! What a learning experience for him!!
ReplyDeleteDebbie
It reminds me when I was a child and I recall that the same way I missed my darling ones they did the same. The most important thing is that both of us were near by thoughts.Enjoy each moment with Kate , I am sure she will love to be pampered by you exclusively.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know Will was chatty. That's SO cute. I am sure he will have a wonderful time! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteHe looks so handsome in his new haircut. I love it! Miss Katie Ru will be keeping you so busy you wont have time to miss him too much ! :)
ReplyDeleteWill is going to have a GREAT time! Camp is a lifetime worth of memories.
ReplyDeleteToo funny about the shooting ~ I was the anti-gun mom as well. My son just informed me that he wants to take a gun safety course so he can go hunting. I guess the meal plan we’re paying for at UNC isn’t heavy enough for him in the protein food group.
Enjoy the deafening quiet of your home ;)
Jo
Kim he is so handsome : ) I hope he has an incredible time and brings back many wonderful memories.
ReplyDeleteTwo whole weeks? Eek! I'm sure though that you will be blessed with many fun stories when he gets home.
ReplyDeleteThink of all he'll have to share when the two of you come back together. You'll need a whole day just so he can tell you all about it. You post reminded me of my daughter. She NEVER stops talking...and it drives me crazy...but when she's not there... I feel a little empty. Counting down the days with you..until your chatterbox is home!
ReplyDeleteI hope he had the BEST week ever!!! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful experience and opportunity he will have!!
ReplyDeleteThe two weeks will pass by quickly and soon he will be talking your ear off!!! :)
He's gonna have a great time and make lifelong memories. I love the photo of handsome Will looking so ready to go and poor Kate looking sooo sleepy.
ReplyDeleteGin =)
He is so adorable! I feel the same way about Bryce. He talks constantly!! He is going to have the best time! My boys would be so jealous.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the quiet time!!
LOVE that Kate is in a Christmas gown! So funny!!
So sweet!! He sounds a lot like my oldest son -- he planned for camp all year long! Then became a camp counselor later. I'm sure he'll have a fabulous time and be back with lots of stories and dirty clothes! :) Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteJanet
I have a non-stop talker too-actually I have 2 of them! Enjoy the quiet and know he will have a great time!
ReplyDeleteHe is going to have the BEST time! Send him lots of good camp mail!
ReplyDeleteoh i hope he has an awesome trip!! two weeks, i can't even imagine it at this phase right now;) xoxo
ReplyDeleteThe Girl just got back from camp and can't stop pining for it... and The Boy will leave for camp this week and he can't stop talkiing about it either! Those are wonderful pics, he looks to be ready for a great time!

JUST KNOW it will be HARD on you- for him to gone that long too- but time does FLY (MAYBE??)
He will make many cherisbale memoires!
Hope and and HArry both have a great time~
I hope that Will has a great time at camp and that you've already seen lots of cute pictures of him on the camp website.
ReplyDeleteI so appreciate all of your kind words and encouragement during this crisis with Vivian. I think we are finally in the home stretch - hooray!
Love to all.
Oh I just KNOW he will have a fabulous time!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHow cute are they!! Love these pictures of the kids. Will is so handsome. I am sure you will all miss him.
ReplyDeleteI think Nick and Will would get along well. He is a total chatter box.......he never stops telling me stories....and he is the same way with others. In a way it is a good thing, I am happy he is that outgoing. As we are approaching 13, I would prefer he talk to me instead of bottle it up and stay quiet.
Hope you are having a great week Kim~
xo,
Lisa
Hi~
ReplyDeleteHope Will is having a great time at camp (and that Will will, also) and that you are surviving without him. I bet he's having a blast and I love how you can check on kids these days via technology. Beats a postcard, right?!
Hope you are feeling well and having a great summer.
Love~
Lisa
that last pic of him is gorgeous!!
