Our friend, Jennifer sent us this great ornament of Santa in a Chinese Dragon.
We always go to Mass on Christmas Eve.
As soon as we are all dressed for Mass, I torture the family with the obligatory photos in front of the tree.....
Scout even joined in.
Brotherly love.
Then I torture them further by arriving at church an hour before Mass so that we can get a seat. These photos are at our church.
So, we have had a tradition for several years (as long as I can remember) that we have pizza on Christmas Eve. This began because it is hard to cook a big meal when you are at Mass from 3:30 until 6:00 (remember we go early to get a seat). Also, I have always cooked a big breakfast and dinner on Christmas Day. Our family LOVES pizza so it was easy and we all were happy. Even when we discovered that some of us were sensitive to gluten and dairy, we still had our pizza once a year. This year, we were informed that Harry should never eat dairy or gluten at all. So, we began a new tradition of going out for dinner after Mass. We chose Fleming's because they have a gluten free menu and they were open. The boys had Alaskan King Crab legs and I think they thoroughly enjoyed them.
Will and I did sneak out for lunch on the 23rd and had our yearly slice of good pizza though. I think we all missed our old tradition but we will eventually find a new one that works for us.
After dinner we drive around and look at Christmas lights.
Then we come home, out on our PJ's and continue our traditions...
Harry took this which is why I look tall:)
Then, the children open a gift. The boys always get a nutcracker. Usually, I get them one that represents their interests of that year (baseball, soccer, pirates, chef etc). This year, I bought the Charlie Brown and Snoopy because it is a big tradition for us to watch the Charlie Brown specials as a family for all of the holidays. I even posted about it once.
Kate gets an ornament (and a bracelet sometimes). This year, she got a ballerina since she did ballet and had her first recital.
Then we always read Twas the Night before Christmas and the story of Jesus' birth.
Kate had some snuggle time with Daddy.
Then she was off to bed. The boys and I watched the Heat/Cold Miser Christmas special and they monitored Santa's whereabouts on Norad. They loved doing that all day.
We are having some friends over for dinner tonight and enjoying having Dave home for the week! I will post Christmas Day soon.
I hope you all had a fabulous Christmas!

Merry Christmas and have a wonderful New Year.
ReplyDeleteYou have a beautiful, precious family. Love all the lovely pictures.
Kim - we have such similar Christmas eve traditions - well, many of them are a part of the past since my boys have grown up so.
ReplyDeleteWe always attend Christmas eve mass and then out to dinner after. Each open a gift that night. And just wait - you think it is tortue now for your boys?? It's nothing compared to begging big teenage/college boys to pose for pictures, going to mass an hour early, etc. LOL!
LOVE Kate's dresses and her little pink kitchen had to have been a big hit :)
I look forward to these posts so much Kim! I always can't wait to see the new nutcrackers, pj's etc. Your kids will remember all of this one day and they will be so grateful to you for documenting it. I have 2 years off blog books to get going on in January!!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year...I hope that maybe we can sneak in a visit at some point...hugs to all of you~
What a wonderful way to spend Christmas Eve. Your tree is BEAUTIFUL - those garlands are so pretty, are they glass???
ReplyDeleteKim, we have so many of the same traditions that I loved reading about yours. We have the tradition of early church services, then pizza for the same reasons that you posted, Christmas lights, one gift (always pj's) the same stories, and a movie. We really love the traditions and love how the boys know exactly what's next and they anticipate it. I do believe that Flemings is a major trade up and my crew would be all about that new tradition=0) I <3 Flemings, they have the best blueberry martini's!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you all had a wonderful Christmas and I'm sure that Christmas Day was great too! I can't wait to see the pictures and I love the matching mommy-daughter pajamas!
ReplyDeleteSooo Precious KIM! I see so many simularities from at our house! LOve your matching PJS!! So glad it was wonderful!

ReplyDeletelooks like everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day!!!
My boys also collect nutcrackers, but they choose them before Christmas. This year I started collecting snow globes for Emma as a new tradition!!!
Santa brought Emma the same exact kitchen as Kate. She LOVES it!
Can't wait to see your Christmas photos!
The little things mean the most ~ my son and I just had a lovely conversation about his past Christmas memories.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite part of the holidays is the week between Christmas and New Years. It's my time to really relax and just enjoy my dear family and friends.
Enjoy ~
Jo
It looks like you had a wonderful Christmas eve! We also go to mass (me and kids waiting not patiently in car while hubby always still getting ready!), crock pot dinner, open one present (new pjs you wear that night), read Night Before Christmas, sprinkle reindeer food on lawn, cookies for santa, carrots for reindeer and good night early!!Too many mean spirited 4th graders at school so this is the first year my oldest said, "mom, I know everything". So that was sad for me. I knew the day would come, but too soon. We had a great Christmas and celebrated my 40th the day after. Three friends and I going to FL for a long weekend in January to celebrate some more!
ReplyDeleteYou are creating such wonderful Christmas memories for you children, Kim. One day they will realize how lucky they are, if they don't already!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your holiday with us.
Wishing you and your beautiful family a Healthy, Happy New Year filled with Love and Peace.
