The jogger quickly alerted me to hang up with 911 that there was no body. I told 911 that I did not need them anymore. At this point my neighbor walked out and said, "Maybe I should take that down. It is a joke." He was really grateful that I cared enough to call 911. I felt like an idiot but I have never seen a joke like that for Christmas (maybe Halloween). AND I had just seen him hanging lights as I drove by a few minutes earlier. What would y'all have done?
Thank you for all of the anniversary wishes. They were warm and sweet. Dave sent me these beautiful flowers and we are getting something for the house we really want for our anniversary gift to one another.
Harry made us this card...
He is so funny. He was telling me not to stress out because I was hosting a formal dinner party that night (and while I adore entertaining sometimes it does stress me out). Then he proceeded to tell Dave to chill out too.
I know I look really tired....it has been an emotional week. Trayce's visitation and funeral were the most beautiful and heart breaking services I have ever attended. Her faith and devotion has really inspired me. I learned so many lessons from her life and her death. Even with 3 small children and cancer, she volunteered tirelessly. I used to volunteer a lot before Kate came home and I heard God tapping me on the shoulder this week to find my way back to volunteering in my community. I have not decided what I will do but I will share it with you when I do. I thank Tracye for giving me that nudge too.
OMG! I would have done the exact same thing by calling 911! I am so happy to hear that your neighbor is ok...
ReplyDeleteLove the card Harry made... the Pinot Grigio bottle is hilarious!! Happy Belated Anniversary!
Praying for your friend Tracye and her family.
I would have totally called 911 too, so scary! Why would someone do that?
ReplyDelete...darling picture of your group too. Hope the dinner was a success!
i happened upon your blog post about the day you got word on yoru baby girl. and i sat crying at my desk at work. it was beautiful, and touching. and i have spent the morning skimming through your blog. thank you for sharing your beautiful life with us.
ReplyDeleteThat was a dreadful joke , an in-laws father died after falling off a ladder years ago , that is a tragedy , after hearing that story we stopped putting up lights high on our roof , we do low flood lights and porch lighting , you poor thing thatmust have been so awful.
ReplyDeleteOh my word... I would have called 911 also and I found myself getting mad just reading that someone would play that joke.

Your friend Tracye sounds like such an amazing lady and inspiration.
I would have done the exact same thing! A Christmas prank, huh? Hmmm... Watch out on April Fool's Day! This guy sounds like trouble. ;)
ReplyDeleteYour home looks lovely and your friends look like they had a wonderful time!
I know it's not really funny, but I am ROLLING!! I do hope your neighbor takes down his "display", though. That would have scared me silly! I'm sure you earned points with your neighbor for reacting the way you did! :) And I just LOVE the picture of your bunko group. You are blessed!
ReplyDeleteI would have done the exact same thing! So strange to have that joke up?! Your house looks stunning all decorated.
ReplyDeleteThat's not a fun joke. I would have done the same thing you did!

ReplyDeleteLooks like you ladies had a lot of fun. I am in a bunco group and we have so much fun! We had our Christmas bunco earlier this week. We all bring wrapped ornaments and do a chinese gift exchange with them.
Hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas!
Your neighbor has a very peculiar sense of humor.
ReplyDeleteYour dear friend Tracye lives on through dear friends like you who will carry on her good work. What a blessing!
Bad, bad neighbor!!! No cookies for him... convenience store fruitcake this year.

The card cracks me up! Looks like a great group of women. I am sure everyone had a wonderful time!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful group of friends. I have been thinking of you all week. You don't look tired at all! Do you get the napa style catalogue? They have your silver pieces you love. (sorry- I can't remember their exact name, but I see a piece there on your mantle) My littlest one has been on the injured reserve with an infected toe- M dropped a bowl (by accident) on his toe on Thanksgiving and I have been to e/r and dr. several times. Hopefully the little cranky patient will be better soon.
ReplyDeleteOh, I would have totally freaked out if I saw that pulling into my driveway. That is some joke.....who was he trying to fool....his wife??
ReplyDeleteHarry's card is so adorable.....he must know Mommy's favorite wine. Kids don't miss even the tiniest details, do they:)
I know it has been a hard week for you, but it looks like you got to enjoy a nice evening with some wondeful women!!
xoxo,
Lisa

Yikes. That seems like an odd joke at Christmas. I would have called 911 too.
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love Harry's card! Your flowers are beautiful too! It was such a treat to see the picture of you and your Bunco group. My, aren't your tree and mantle beautiful?
ReplyDeleteBy the way, that joke was not the LEAST bit funny in my book.
THE card is hysterical. I love it.
ReplyDeleteSorry the week has been rough. Funny how we always learn something or find a positive. And, you have passed it on to me! I am going to give do some volunteering a serious thought. It too has been on my mind.
Lea
xo
Happy Anniversary!
ReplyDeleteAND I don't think that was a very funny joke. I am glad everything turned out ok.
I would have called 911 too.
ReplyDeleteOne time our across-the-street neighbors were out of town and we saw people carrying things out of their backyard and loading them in a truck. We called the neighbors on their cell and asked if anyone should be taking things and they said no. So Eric call 911 and in less than to minutes four police cars came screeching up in front of the house.
It turns out that our neighbors had given another family their swing set and had told them they could come any time and take it out of the backyard since they were out of town. They forgot they'd told them that.
A bit embarrassing for all of us.
I read your post earlier...then I just got an email with a picture of a fake man hanging off of a roof with a ladder down...apparently, it is a common joke...but I WOULD have freaked out...and It is not funny!!
ReplyDeleteLove Harry's card. So sweet!!
I like Harry's humor! What a cutie! So glad your dinner party was a success!
ReplyDeletei would have been totally freaked out by the neighbor too! i am so sorry to hear about your girlfriend. she sounds like an amazing person. i have a friend with breast cancer and three young children. it is tough! thinking of you!
ReplyDeleteI would have called 911, too. I have never seen anything like that either, and I certainly wouldn't have suspected it to be a joke. I wonder if there will be more people who do the same.
ReplyDeleteHappy Belated Anniversary!!
That 'hanging christmas lights' joke is currently featured in December's Family Fun magazine. It looked kind of funny/cute in the magazine, but in the context of your story - definitely not. I totally would've done the same thing!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear of the tragic death of your friend.
That's odd about the spoof...I was reading Disney's Family Fun magazing and it actually has this prank as a suggestion in there. I am not kidding! It's ridiculous!
ReplyDeleteOne more thing, in the family fun magazine, they had one addition that helped make it seem a little more lighthearted - a big cartoon talking bubble saying "oops", next to the 'fallen' lights person. For what it's worth!
ReplyDeleteYou don't look tired, you look beautiful! I am sorry about your loss. I'm sure that has been so hard on you. I will say a prayer for you, and her family she left behind.
ReplyDeleteFYI,I would have called too. Harry, you are too funny!
Kim, my sister in law in So Cal sent me an email and I had to come show you. if this is not your neighbor then its going around! I hope I don't jam up your comments with this photo,, that it works! Sorry if there are any problems but i HAD to show you lol!!!(Hope the pic shows up...but the guy (dummy is holding on to the gutter, so probably different)
ReplyDeleteWell, there is good news and bad news about my Christmas decorations this year.
Good news is that I truly out did myself this year with my Christmas decorations. The bad news is that I had to take him down after 2 days. I had more people come screaming up to my house than ever. Great stories. But two things made me take it down. First, the cops advised me that it would cause traffic accidents as they almost wrecked when they drove by. Second, a 55 year old lady grabbed the 75 pound ladder almost killed herself putting it against my house and didn't realize it was fake until she climbed to the top (she was not happy). By the way, she was one of many people who attempted to do that. My yard couldn't take it either. I have more than a few tire tracks where people literally drove up my yard.
Kind of feel like I gave in to the man by taking him down but my neighbor did confirm two near miss accidents on the busy street next to my house. I think I made him too real this time.
So it was fun while it lasted
