Do you think it is a bad sign when...

Friday, July 17, 2009

Every time you drive past the local CVS, your daughter calls out "I want cherry flavored!" (as in what flavor she wants her prescriptions)?

And you know I am the anti- antibiotic Mom.  I loathe them!

Yes, our sweet Kate is sick again.  The doctor thinks it is another double ear infection but the wax is so bad in one ear...they cannot see it.  One ear is for sure infected though! Fever, oozing nose and eyes..it is not pretty.  The doc gave her some codeine for pain.  I think it is working because she told Dave that Scout (our schnoodle) has feathers and then laughed! (Scout indeed does not have feathers, in case anyone was wondering).

  5. Oh, Kim, I'm so sorry to hear about Kate! I hope she feels better soon.

Vivian had frequent ear infections before she was one, and then later (elementary school) she seemed to get stuck in an endless cycle of sinus infections. We finally had tubes put in her ears and had her adenoids removed, and each of those procedures resolved the issue she was having.

All of that to say, I know how hard it is on everyone (especially Mom!) when someone in the family is sick. I hope that Kate literally gets all of this out of her sweet little system soon!

    Thinking of you.

  7. awww poor sweet Kate... I am so sorry. I pray her little ears heal quickly. What a lovely pic. I love swings like that. :)

  8. Kate sounds like my son at that age. You have my sympathies. Just think of it as priming her immune system. By the time my son got to high school, his immune system was so good from all the stuff he got earlier that he actually had a couple of years of perfect attendance at school.

  11. Oh poor Kate. I hope she starts feeling better soon. Ear infections are no fun. My oldest son had to have tubes in his ears before he was 2. Luckily that did the trick and he rarely gets sick anymore.
I will be praying that Kate gets better soon.

BTW, I LOVE the picture. It is beautiful.

  16. What a breathtaking photograph!

I hope she feels better soon.

Kate's comment passing CVS is funny (though sad she's been so sick). We continue to struggle with childhood illnesses, too. I have two with Hand, foot and mouth, Hannah also has a staph infection in her thumb and perhaps a mild case of viral meningitis. I thought we'd get a summertime break.

Hey, how are you liking your new camera now. Your photography looks great. What did you change/learn to help you get the photos you are getting???? They are really beautiful (and I think I might be buying a new camera so the feedback would be helpful. Mine was dropped and just doesn't work right any more). Thanks!

  17. That is just horrible-- poor Kate but I did get a laugh out of the Cherry flavor comment-- that is just too funny!

I too hate antibiotics. I avoid them at all costs. Even when the boys have an ear infection, I rarely take the to the DR as they always give antibiotics and 90% of the time it is viral and antibiotics are given just to pacify the parents. My closest friends are all family practice Dr's and they say to avoid antibiotics at all costs. They say in Europe only 10% of the ear infections are actually given antibiotics-- instead they just use motrin and pain killers for the pain and give it a few days and it goes away-- cuz its viral!! Anyway, off my soap box for now. Love the pic and hope Kate feels better soon.

  19. I hope Kate is feeling better. Ear infections are no fun. I had a lot as a child and ended up with tubes in my ears at a young age. On the upside the picture is gorgeous.

  22. Kim,

What an incredible picture of Dave and Kate! So sorry to hear about Kate's ears. Both my boys have had horrible ear problems, Preston had numerous ear infections as a baby and got tubes when he was 15 months. Cooper had already followed his brother's footsteps early on and had tubes by 6 months!! He had 5 ear infections in 6 weeks when he was 5 months and could not tolerate the oral antibiotics. I have always been super stressed about all the antibiotic use so I can relate to your thoughts about that. Hopefully Kate feels better soon. Also, just wanted to add that we have been on vacation for a week and for the first time ever I minimized my computer use to only checking my personal email once a day. Anyway, the point of that is to tell you that I was absolutely delighted beyond words to come back today and be able to catch up with your PRECIOUS family!!! Thank you so much for including me!!!

    Hugs,

    Emily

Poor Kate {{{{hug}}}} I am so so sorry. I hate to see little ones sick.

  31. Hi Kim, I've loved getting caught up on your blog! Sorry to hear Kate is under the weather. The picture of her on the swing, gazing up at her daddy is priceless. That is sure to melt a mothers heart!

Your boys look great and Will is definitely getting that teenager look! My younger two just turned 15and I so relate to that whole teen thing...trends, girls, trying to be cool. Don't worry too much, Will will handle "teendome" with poise and grace, I'm sure. They both seem like such wonderful boys.

Keep enjoying summer! And thank you so much for the invite to your blog. This wait for China is awful, yet your blog gives me hope!

  41. Kim, So glad to be able to read your blog again! Wanted to share something with you about the ear infections...not sure if anyone else has told you. I can't find an email address for you. But I can tell you, that I was just as afraid of tubes as I was antibiotics and someone at church told me what worked for their child...you may not believe me. But after an ear infection that lasted 7 months for our one year old daughter, I was ready to try anything. It's not cooky! Really. And you probably know someone who could do this for you. Email me if you'd like...our Syd hasn't had a single ear infection since that one her first year that the pedi's couldn't cure. She is now 6! I'd love to share with you how you may get these to go away!
    Blessings!
