Mono

Monday, March 23, 2009

Thank you for your prayers and comments regarding Kate.  We were back at the doctor this morning because Kate is really sick and her fever will not break.  They did more blood work and she has mono. Her tonsils are so swollen she is having trouble breathing and eating or drinking anything (let alone the sore throat).  I feel SO bad for her. She is miserable and will not let me put her down (she is napping now).  I just pray no one else in the family gets it.  The boys would have to stop baseball and Judo for a month because of risk of the spleen rupturing.  I have to keep a close watch on Kate too.

As an aside, this morning as we were getting dressed for the doctor, Kate was so cute.  I put a skirt and a white tee on and she wanted to dress just like me...so we found a white tee in her drawer and a similar skirt and then she wanted "pearls like Mama." Obviously, my boys have never wanted to dress like me so this was a first mother-daughter moment.  I loved it.  I took two photos...they are awful because we were in a rush and she feels so terrible but here they are because I always want to remember this morning.  It made my heart jump....

  12. Oh no - Not mono! My sister had it when she was a bit older than Kate and our mother said it was the "kissing" disease...she wouldn't go near boys for the longest time :)

    My poor sister probably got it from sharing drinks with friends, but the kissing comment scarred her for a while :) Not that momma was complaining about her thinking boys had 'cudies"

    Hope you little mini-me feels better soon!

  41. She looks adorable in her skirt. What a precious moment. I'm praying for Psalm 41 for her.

    1 Blessed is he who has regard for the weak;
    the Lord delivers him in times of trouble.
    2 The Lord will protect him and preserve his life;
    he will bless him in the land
    and not surrender him to the desire of his foes.
    3 The Lord will sustain him on his sickbed and restore him from the bed of illness...

    I am so sorry Kate is sick...but so glad they got to the bottom of it and can treat her properly!

    It is the worst thing to see you children sick...we just seem to fall into the pattern of taking their health for granted. These are the worst moments for sure.

  74. My little one had mono last year at about this time. Apparently a child at preschool picked it up from her nanny. My daughter was sick off and on until June when it became pneumonia. Your little sweetie has already been through that-- poor thing. I mention this just by way of saying don't hesitate to go back to the doctor over little things for the next few months with her. Better to overreact a little and be proactive than have her get sicker. On the up side, my other daughter didn't get it (just me) and the pediatrician told me she ought to have immunity to mono now. Hope Kate feels better very soon and you all get some rest.

    Glad you're back! I missed you. :^)

  77. Oh Kim,

    So sorry that Kate is not feeling well. My oldest had mono last year and ended up being in the hospital for almost a week because he had every complication that could happen! I hope the rest of you stay healthy!

    I was on another blog who is going private and she mentioned a "work around" for only allowing so many invites. So, I thought I would let you know her blog and maybe you can contact her for the "work around" directions. Her blog is http://roomforatleastonemore.blogspot.com/
    Please make sure that I get an invite if you do go private! I love your blog! :)

    Have a great week!

  85. I never post comments because I don't ever really use my blog but always enjoy reading other blogs. I am a nanny and my parents considered adopting from China but never were able to locate the funds to do so, and as much as I would love a little China doll sister of my own I have to read blogs to see how all the other little ones are doing....I hate to see any child so sick I hope she feels better soon..Mono is terrible I had it in 9th grade and had to leave school and be homeschooled for the remainder of the year...I hope she gets over it faster and doesn't expieriance all the weight loss I did...Kyndle
