Girl obsessed

Wednesday, February 11, 2009

I am beginning to see Kate's personality is such that she becomes intensely focused on one thing.

Her current obsessions include:

1) Ballet

My first texture

Kateupsoft

kateballetbw

Whenever she is home and awake, she wants to wear her tutu and ballet slippers.  She dances around her room.  She will occasionally take a break to read her favorite book.....

2) Green Eggs and Ham

DSC_0453
Yes, Miss Kate wants to read "the Sam-I-am" book exclusively now.  She has also taken to using the phrase..."I do not like......(insert anything she does not feel like eating/wearing/doing at the moment here)....."

3) Beautiful dresses (well really only these two below)

Caught in mid-air
She is running toward me here (bad photo) but I love that both her feet are off the ground!
DSC_0195

Kate is in serious rebellion against all skirts and pants.  It is driving me MAD!  I have some adorable skirt and pant outfits that she refuses to wear.  She also refuses tights, sweaters, or leg warmers. And when I say refuse, I mean you would have to have two people literally pin her down to get them on her!  Good thing it is not too cold here. She asks to wear these two dresses every-single-day.

4) "drawing"

She wants to "draw" on everything with pen.  Yesterday as I was blow drying my hair (and I thought she was quietly watching her pal, Diego) she drew all over my white sheets in blue ink!. I am a bit of a sheet snob (many of you already know this).  These were not my " great deal at Tuesday Morning Sferra sheets" either.  They were my "paid full price" good white sheets! I was too mad to take a photo.  They are soaking and will hopefully be okay but the jury is still out.

5) taking off her shoes!

As if the sheets were not bad enough yesterday....Kate took her socks and shoes off everywhere we went (Target, the post office, the bank and the paint store).  I got so sick of putting them back on, so I just shoved them in my purse at each place and put them back on in the car at the next place.  Well, when we got home I realized that we had no shoes.  Yup, she took them off at the paint store and I was so used to her being barefoot that we left without them.  The paint store guys know me (sad but true~I am there a lot) and they got a good chuckle when they found these in the store:)

  1. Now take Kate's personality times two and that's what it is like at my house with my two little ones!!!

Shoes also come off everywhere.......two pairs at a time!!!

  2. Oh what I would do to have some 'girl obsession' in my home!! ;) Darling photos of Kate - love seeing all her 'kate-isms' :)

  3. Hairspray! Hairspray takes ink out and I used it often when my girls were little. Try it, it works and no soaking or mess involved!

  4. Kim -- I can sooo relate to this post! We are in the same boat here! I would take the adorable tutu and cute dresses any day. Kamree wants to wear her Halloween PJs and slippers. She went to daycare yesterday in a red pinafore and hot pink shoes! I am starting to cave since mornings are such a battle with her. I am going to print labels that say "I DRESSED MYSELF TODAY!" I can't wait to be done with the terrible two's! Hang in there!

  5. Pen comes out with hair spray really easily.Just soak with hairspray and then wash .
The dressing thing that is very typical , from my experience she will most likely be very opinionated about what she wears , sounds just like one of mine , there is no fighting , we have had many lovely wasted outfits, so I never buy her anything without he okay , it is just a waste. Don't you just wish you could dress your little girl in whatever you see adorable. We all have to choose our battles, hide your pens.

  6. OH NO...your sheets!! I hope the ink comes out. I know you have lots of remedies up your sleeve to remove stains, so I am sure they will be just fine. We had a similar experience with a red crayon and and a white chair....my heart was in my throat when I saw it.....thank goodness.....it was washable crayon:)

I love these pictures of Kate in her tutu.....I think they would look lovely as a series framed and hung up on the wall.

Hope you have a great day!

  9. Are you not so proud of her obsessions?? Good girl! Thanks for your comment. I have been admiring your family all the way from Tennessee for a long time! :) he he

  10. oh Kim, Caitlyn went through things like this too, she was such a challenge as far as leaving her alone like that for even a minute. She is slowly getting better but I can totally relate to the sheet accident. We have had several book addictions too that had to be read exclusively, as well as movies. Right now we are on Sleeping Beauty and a Cinderella kick.
The one thing she has never worried about is her clothes. She wears what ever I choose with no issues. Thank Goodness;)
The ballerina pics are lovely:) Kate is so beautiful.

  11. Just so you know you are not alone - we are also experiencing each of these obsessions as well. (Including the love of the exact same hot pink dress). The cute pants, sweaters and skirts I spent so much money on are all perishing in their drawers. Unworn. They will at least make great hand-me-downs. The shoe business is the hard part. It is really cold here. Sometimes I think that if I have to put her shoes on one more time I might lose it. I also have basically given up. Sofie is barefoot in stores all the time. Please - don't even get me started with the artwork on the walls and furniture. I am in love with Mr. Clean and his magic eraser. And Biz. A combo of shout, biz and Tide - the one that smells like Vanilla and lavender. I starched fabric and had it up on the walls of the front hall and staircase - below the chair rail. You can imagine - between the crayon and the appeal of peeling it, off it looks awful.

They seem to also share the love of ballet. We get home and Sofie rushes off to her room to - first take off the shoes, and then put on a tutu of some sort along with either ballet shoes or a pair of heels. She is now a "Dancing Queen" instead of a ballerina. She also like to wrap her blanket around herself so that it barely hits the floor and with the heels this is a dangerous combination. I have to say though that the heels have given her fabulous calf muscles.

Your post rung so many bells! Pretty funny!

  12. Oh my such CUTENESS! :) Good thing she doesn't live where we do! She would have some very cold little toes!

  13. Kate is just tutu cute! I love all her -ism's and I know that even though they may be frustrating, you love them too (except for maybe the sheets)! Love the ballet pictures and how you have captured her movements in them, I can almost imagine her twirling around gracefully!

I love seeing their personalities come out, but it can be trying when you have other ideas of what they are to wear, etc! Good luck!!

  14. The Tongginator's teacher once told me that Sam-I-Am reminded her of my daughter. She. Never. Gives. Up.

(And she loves ballet, too. And dresses. And writing with pens on inappropriate linens.)

  15. Oh my goodness, I'm sorry, but I got such a chuckle out of this! Kate and my Jaden could be fast friends, except the ballet part, she's a soccer girl, but would probably play in a tutu and slippers if given the opportunity.

Sorry about the sheets, I hope the pen comes out. Looking forward to meeting you in Austin!

  16. Girls can be so determined. At least she knows what she wants with such a strong spirit. She'll know how to get her way through this world. We also have pen artwork on my sons sheets (haven't hairsprayed it yet), and my girls are very picky about their shoes. Thanks for your comment, Kate is a beautiful ballernia.

  20. Ballet images - Just beautiful! Who would think that this same princess that is twirling loves the arts so much that your sheets became a canvas too. There has got to be some trick out there like soaking them in hairspray or something that will bring these sheets back to true white. I think I might not have been as calm as you. Here is hoping to a "keep your shoes on day today". I admire you.

  22. My sweetgirl has an obsession w/BOOTS!!! She attends a private daycare and she wanted to wear BOOTS (rain, snow or just casual ones) EVERYDAY!! It was a battle to get this kid in her basic blue mary janes!! I have had to "bargain" and let her wear the boots (of her choice for that day)on the RIDE TO SCHOOL, but once we get there THE BOOTS COME OFF and the BLUE MJ'S ARE ON! When I pick her up in the afternoon, the MJ'S come off and the boots of choice accompany those sweet little piggies ALL THE WAY HOME!! Happy Mom, Happy BOOT LOVING GIRL!!!

  24. I love knowing what I have to look forward to with Eveley! =)

Green Eggs & Ham was Robbie's favorite book of the day. It was sooo long, but He loved it.

    Beautiful finds at the market!!

  25. Hobby Lobby (as well as others I am sure) sell this stuff called Grandma's stain remover.....OMGosh it works so well, I use it exclusively now. It will even take out grease stains. If you can't get the ink out with your methods I would recommend trying this product. Just make sure you put a towel underneath to absorb the stain. Good luck...I would have just been sick, I am obsessed by sheets, and besides monogramming all of my sheets, I iron them as well, and I am a thread count snob too.

I hope my little miss Hayden is a girly girl. I have bought almost all dresses, so she I will make sure that I will make sure she wears them all before she is making choices:)

The shoes at the paint store is hilarious...I am sure it was not at the time.

  29. This too shall pass : ) Addison went through a stage where she would only wear dresses with tights. I packed up clothes that still had tags...so sad. She has since outgrown her stage. My daughter does have a shoe and purse obsession. Yesterday she asked me if she could borrow one of my Louis Vuitton purses because she didn't have one : 0 I guess she has good taste LOL
Oh no I am so sorry about your sheets. We have white sheets on our bed too.
Kate is adorable as always...girls are fun but a bit more high maintenance then boys.

  30. I am cracking up!!!!!! Oh, how I wish they could twirl around together! Ruby slept in her "tutu" last night.

She too was born to be barefoot, and let's remember how COLD it is here. Ditto for no coat of any kind...

I just loves Kate's focus and intensity!!! And, of course the fact that we share two spirited little blessings!

    Love,
    Diana

  32. My daughter is Kate's age and she is doing the exact same things...she HAS to wear a dress everyday and she takes her shoes off everywhere. I am glad ot know that I am not the only one that is dealing with this right now. Hate that you are...but glad to know it is normal.

  33. I love that Kate is so girly, the photos are adorable. Alcohol takes ink right out (that's why hairspray works, it has alot of alcohol) Good luck.

Her ballet pictures are so sweet and I think the one of her running is a great pic!
We love the "Green Eggs & Ham" book too....you should surprise Kate with actual green eggs and ham (with a little food coloring)some morning. I did that once for the boys and they went crazy! hehee

  38. Oh those ballet photos are beautiful. Wow!
Morgan takes of her shoes all the time to. As soon as we get in the car she kicks them off. Half the time I just carry her because I dont want to put the shoes on again. Maybe some flip flops?

  39. Kim,

First, I hope you can get the stains out!

I LOVE all your pictures of Kate in her tutu - they are so beautiful. I hope when Lily starts dance she loves it as much as Kate does.

Kate is just a girl who knows what she likes - kind of like her mom! :)

I too know about shoes....Lottie didn't like shoes forever...than would only wear crocs...ugh....now wants to wear leather type shoes with socks....crazy girls!

  57. Oh but she is so adorable!! I love a little girl with a big personality. Keeps life spicy!

Is she still enjoying pre-school? Are the boys happier at their newer schools too?

  58. I am sure every mother with a daughter sees herself in your life with Kate. Leila has drawn on plenty of inappropriate surfaces (walls, tables, floors), has cut her American Girl's hair into a uneven bob, as well as wanted to wear her beautiful dresses, even to bed. My little Leila is now 8 and has given up ballet for hip hop (oh what a challenge to find an appropriate class without any gyrating booty moves!). I just took her to rent a saxophone. Her older brother, Nick plays, and it has become her latest obsession.
I am enjoying your adventures with Kate. They are a reminder of how quickly time passes.
