Too much for a title.

It is Thankful Thursday and this week, I am thankful for my husband. He can be so thoughtful sometimes. The other day a book arrived for him in the mail.  As he is not a reader (I am), I was curious.  Later that night, he told me he had a surprise for me. He presented me with this

What a sweetie.  He said, "You might already have this but I saw it on-line and knew it was something you would like."  Ironically, I subscribed to the magazine by the same name (founded by this author) for a few years while we built our last home.  However, I had never purchased the book.  I really did want it though and I never mentioned it to him.  I was so thankful. I think he knows that I am struggling decorating this home and he wanted to show his support.

Now, just to show you my hubby's sense of humor, he also e-mailed me these one morning this week:

So, this is the stuff my husband does late a night (order me books and make silly cartoons).  He is a night owl. And BTW~he is a Republican.  I love him and I am thankful for him.

On another note, back in October a few of you asked for the recipe for this lasagna:

Yup, that's right...I am just getting around to posting about it. Actually, I just popped one in the oven and thought I would share with you about the recipe.  I found the recipe here BUT (and I mean NO offense to the GREAT Pioneer Woman) I make some changes all in the name of better health:

~I use organic, preservative free Italian sausage in lieu of the Jimmy Dean sausage she recommends.
~ I also do not add ANY salt at all.  It is plenty salty enough.
~I almost always purchase healthier (organic, less processed) cheeses if I can find them.
~Of course, I use gluten free noodles AND I don't boil them beforehand (but bake for an hour).

Even with these changes it is not the healthiest meal in our menu rotation (we only eat it every few months) but I will tell you that this really is delicious and pretty easy to prepare too!  When we have made it for others, they RAVE about it.

Have a great weekend Y'all!

  1. Thanks for this post! I can totally relate to the concept of a new old house. I love the charm and character of old houses but the layouts, closets and baths of the new ones make one spoiled!

  2. That lasagna looks YUMMY!! I printed and cooked up your Tortilla Soup recipe and it was delicious! So I am definitely trying your lasagna... but probably the less healthy recipe ;)
Your hubby is a GEM! Glad he's there to do sweet things for you, we all need a bit of pampering every now and then, don't we??

  3. A note on lasagna. I've made it with sausage flavored soy crumbles, and it's still pretty good. Also, the soy crumbles take less time than meat.

  6. I would love that book. What a sweet hubby you have. BTW, my husband is a Republican night owl too :)

If we lived closer between clothes and home decor...I would see us on some serious shopping sprees (thanks for the link, I love Ballard Designs and those sconces are cute).

Take care, I hope your schedule gets less hectic/overwhelming. I think mine's about to get very hectic.

  10. Your husband is so thoughtful..little things like that mean more to me than flowers and such.

  12. Although I RARELY post anything, I just wanted to say thanks. My night owl hubby of 15 years has been helping me redo and customize our blog. Although, not nearly as creative as yours, we're working on it! Troy was able to use your blog to help me create ours and he loved the Obama cartoon! Good luck with with the ink! Shelby thinks Kate is beautiful!

  15. Hahaa, you're husband is funny and so sweet of him to buy that book knowing the struggle. That's one of my coffee table books....I love those older homes and (when done right) made to look old ones. :) I hope you find the inspiration you need. Sometimes things come quickly and sometimes they take awhile. Sometimes they come from other people....like your idea of shades (to look like the canopy I made) I think I am going to do that for the playroom! I could never figure out what to do for windows in that room and now I think I know!! So thanks interior design extraordinaire.....send the bill to my hubby. :) Now if you could only figure out what to do in your house?! lol

  27. Fun book- Dave is so thoughtful!! I love lasagna but add in a layer or two of veggies too. At the very least frozen chopped spinach but sometimes I also throw in a layer of asparagus or in the summer, green squash. It tastes the same but ensures more veggies in my diet.

  28. Looks yummy!! I usually do the ground turkey and the Tinkyada noodles. Do you have a better noodle recommendation??

  29. Thanks for the lasagna I am going to share it with a good friend of mine who cooks gluten free. My MIL gave me that book for Christmas! Love it.

  37. Give your husband (he really is your "houseboy", isn't he?) our thanks for the new lead on design books! My husband is also a night owl (& a republican). I will show him your post, and tease him about
getting me some new goods. I think I might need that book. I want my boys to learn that making a home is really important, and will be to their future wives. Good example Kim, for Will and Harry. Have a great weekend!

  38. In a world of fallen apart relationships or ones that are holding on for dear life it is precious to the heart to see a husband that loves and cherishes his wife and notices the little things or brings a sweet smile. Just a tender post. Thanks for sharing.

Your 3 peanuts are adorable. I read through some of your old posts and really enjoy your blog.

And if that's an actual pic of your oven, I'm super impressed with how clean it is! No old, baked on food anywhere!!!
