Usually on Thursdays I post about being thankful and while I am thankful--- this week, I need to ask you to keep a special family in your prayers.

~Linn and her husband are an amazing family.  Their blog is  A Place called Simplicity.

I do not know this family personally but I have been so inspired by their faith and their call to adopt children.  They have nine children (two very recently brought home from Uganda) and one waiting for them in China.  Yesterday, their family home burned.  It appears as though they have lost everything.  I ask you to please pray for this family.  If you have adopted you know that those first few months at home are all about creating a safe haven for the children.  I cannot imagine how difficult this must be for them. Furthermore, they need a home.  I know that several people are lobbying to see if they can get an ABC Home Makeover and surely they deserve it.  I am asking for your prayer now but as things develop, I will post about more tangible ways you can help this family if you are able to.  If you click here, you can read about some ways to help and if you comment, they will forward those to the team at ABC's Extreme Home Makeover.

Linn has posted about the fire and you can go to her website to read it.  Thank you. It is amazing to know that our blog and adoption community can help one another through prayer, giving and service.

  1. that's for that post. devastating.

on a different note, have you looked at http://www.5dollardinners.com/ before? they are gfcf. while her dinners are on the frugal side, I looked over her recipes and there are ways to make it fit into our eating ways/budget (ie we spend more than $5 on dinner) staying in gfcf.

  2. They have been on my mind as well. Linn's daughter to be, Jubiliee, is one of Rachel's friends from langfang so me and Linn have been emailing over the last 6 or 7 months. I will definately write a letter in their behalf to ABC. They deserve a new home for sure!
What a praise Linn was able to get all of the kids out safe. God is watching over them for sure.

  9. Hi Kim~I have been following your blog for quite a while--thanks for being so transparent and encouraging!! Thanks too for mentioning the Saunders--oh how we are praying! I too am Mom to an almost three old China gem-Addie! She sounds very similar to Kate! Just had to share this(after I read your post about your profound "playground moment")--one night while rocking Addie she looked at me and said.."thanks Mom for bringing me home". I caught my breath and said "thanks for bringing you home from where Addie?" Again she says with much emotion--"thanks for bringing me home". I, thinking this was "it"... we were going to begin this precious conversation about "her story" of adoption! I again said "home from where Addie"?
She answers..."home from FOLKSTON, Georgia"! (our hometown!!!) Oh how she cracks us up--I was so serious and contemplative and she was just speaking simply and common sense-like!! Thanks again for sharing your daily journeys.

  14. Oh, gosh. Life throws us these curveballs doesn't it. How sad for the family, but they are just things and thank the Lord no one was injured. (I would be terribly sad to lose a lot of things in my home though and I don't mean to make light of that.)
I hope ABC Home M. can help them out, that show is awesome.
Thanks for letting us know about this family.

  15. Thanks Kim! Their son Graham had to have emergency surgery for appendicitis right after this happened so they are really getting the one-two punch. Keep on praying!
