Christmas Cheer

Friday, December 19, 2008

Our Christmas decorations are very simple this year.  I love fresh greens and garlands throughout the house and draped along the front porch railings but this year we decided to spend less time decorating and more time as a family.  I think we are so sick of unpacking that we just wanted to be lazy and have a simple Christmas.  We even decided not to have our Christmas party. Although we love doing that, we needed a simple Christmas.  And I must say, I am not stressed and I feel more connected to the true reason we celebrate December 25th.  So, a few people have asked me to post photos of our decorations...here they are...

I know these are totally out of focus (practicing with new lens and manual settings) but Kate was dancing in front of the tree and I loved it.

  1. Kim,

Beautiful decorations- your house looks very festive. Is your tree artificial, and if so would you mind posting what kind it is. We are going to buy a new one after this years Christmas. Yours looks very full and "real". Thanks!

  9. I think it looks beautiful. I gave up on the inside and didn't decorate like I normally do. To be honest I don't miss it that much. I think your house looks great and much more decorated than mine :)

  16. Ok - Of course I love it all, because you have fabulous taste! But, my favorite are the magnolia wreaths with the simple white ribbons hanging from your cupboards! Makes me miss my big Magnolia tree at our house in Brentwood. The photo of Kate just posing for you is beautiful of her! The hot pink is fabulous!!!!

FYI - talking softly did NOT work!

  19. Very beautiful! I love your tree! I love trees filled with many beautiful and sentimental ornaments! We also decided not to do our huge Christmas party this year. While I am missing the entertaining part, the no stressing over it was surely worth it!

  21. I know what you mean. We did minimal decorations, too. All that unpacking just wipes it right out of you.

  23. Beautiful decorations! Your taste is impeccable...you could be a decorator. Accessorizing is so difficult for me; I struggle with putting it all together.

  26. I agree that simple is best. I would like to ask you if you guys actually strung the popcorn or if it is artificial. If it is artificial, where did you get it? I love it. I have some artificial cranberry garland that I love but have never been able to find more for a larger tree. I think I would like the old fashioned look of the popcorn.

  29. Hi Kim~

Just wanted to stop in for a moment and catch up some. I've been away from blog world for the most part. Your house looks simply elegant.

I am glad to hear you feel less stress than normal and are focusing on the true meaning of Christmas. More people should follow that idea.

Wishing you all the best this Christmas and in 2009.

    Much love,
    Lisa

  30. Simple and pretty. Glad you guys are getting back to normal. I see you found some mercury trees! I used mine again this year on the dinning room and I still just love them like the first time I bought them. I posted some pictures of it they are close to the top of the Tour pictures.
    Merry Christmas

  32. I've always thought something was "missing" from my Christmas tree. My tree, like yours, has lots of hand blown glass ornaments on it. After seeing the pictures of your tree, I realized it's the garland that's missing. It really just makes the tree, doesn't it? Yours looks just beautiful!

    Merry Christmas!

  33. Your tree looks goregous. I wish I was brave enough to try real garland. Does it make a mess? Maybe I will be brave enough next year. Everything looks goregous as usual, simple or not. :)
