I miss her so

Thursday, November 20, 2008

As I unpack here and try to make our new house a home, I miss her more and more.

Added...I realize that I am blessed and lucky to have all of the joys (God, family, friends, food shelter etc) that we have.  I get emotionally attached to houses and I sure it is the memories that were created there that I miss the most.  We have not really made any memories in our new home yet.  I know that home is where the heart is...I guess our hearts have not completely moved yet;)

  1. That's a beautiful home. I can see why you miss it so much, but I bet the new house will be gorgeous once you get all settled in!

  2. Kim, I am a friend of Denise's. I read your blog a lot. I don't know what is going on b/c I don't really know you, but I know if I had to pick up and move with our family across the country I would probably be really depressed. Seriously. I have always lived in the same area, so this is HOME. You know what I thought though when I read your words is that "home is wherever your heart is." I know you left Denise and lots of friends back in VA but they are still in your heart! So I don't know if this helps or makes it worse, but I just wanted to send a cyber-hug. Your home is beautiful and you new house will feel like HOME very soon! Enjoy your company!!!

  5. Oh my goodness I am so sorry : ( It took me years to feel like Chicago was home after moving from my home of 34 years (CA). I missed our pool the most so this year we are putting in a pool. Sometimes I feel like I search for anything that makes me feel like I am home.
I know I keep telling you it will get better. I hope I am not making you upset by saying that. Sometimes when I was so heartbroken for home the last thing I wanted to hear was how it will get better.
I just want to reach through the blog and hug you. I am just so so sorry for your pain. I truly am. I will pray for your family and that you will soon feel some peace in your beautiful heart. {{{hug}}}} I am always here if you ever just need to vent.

  9. Kim, I'm sorry your missing that beautiful girl of yours. She was truly stunning and had such an old soul about her. Looks like she had good bones as well!!!

Thanks for sharing such beautiful pictures of your precious "Girl" that you loved so much.

  10. Kim, Your former house is just gorgeous and I know the new one will be too. It's your home and it will feel like it eventually. I can relate to the move. We moved from the Chicago area 3 years ago to Wisconsin and though I love it here, I miss our friends, neighbors and old home very much still.

    Take care,

    Gail

  11. Oh Kim, your home was lovely & it is obvious why you miss it so much. I am sorry to hear you are feeling homesick.

You are a talented decorator, but it is your warm heart and sweet family that makes a house a home. And I hope you will soon feel much more at home in your new house.

I also pray that Harry is doing much better!

  15. Your previous house was beautiful and I can see how you would miss it and be nostalgic and homesick.

The "staging" photos of your new house are equally lovely. Im sure that you will continue to make your new house a beautiful place for your family that truly reflects "home".

You are most fortunate to have had two beautiful places to live that are so much more than most people could ever dream of. I long to have the opportunity to one day own property that I can call my own. Unfortunately, as a single, self-supporting woman (with real estate the way it is), I may never be able to afford that in the city where I live and that saddens me a little.

No matter, Im very grateful that I have a roof over my head, food to eat, clothing to wear and power to keep me warm. Which is more than many have.

I hope that you and your family continue to make a beautiful home. Your blog always brings (at times much-needed) warmth to my day. :)

  18. You will - you will make beautiful memories and this house will begin to become your home. You will watch Will, Harry and Kate do amazing things. You and Dave will come to love this or that about the your home and think - oh remember when...
In the years to come - there will be birthday parties, holidays, celebrations, and so much more. Open you heart to the possibilities and move in :D

  21. Oh Kim - you know I LOVE your old home, but your new home will be filled with laughter, visits from old friends, parties and the warmth of one of the most beautiful families I have ever known.

I still am harboring some things for you but Em was in the hospital early this week and the trip to the post office definitely took a back seat again - so sorry.

I love this post, it reflects your truth and your connections. It has a depth that only happens when you create the place you call home...someday, this post will be a treasure, part of the path that led you to your new home. This weekend begins the hospitality that you are so magnificent with offering, blessings for a wonderful time with your sweet friend.

    Love,
    Heather

  26. I'm sorry, Kim. I know that with time you will make the new house your own. You seem to be so good at that. I know, personally, that there are some places and homes and people that are just so hard to leave. Maybe if you could try to find one new thing that you or your Peanuts love about your new home each day it might help. Wish I could help more. Just remember that time heals. (hug)

  27. Kim- I too can see why you would miss your lovely home... but I have a feeling that the home was lovely because you made it so....

You seem to have a knack for creating warm and inviting spaces, so I know it will only be a matter of time before your new home will radiate with that same love. I do completely understand how hard it is to move... I too get very attached to homes. I hope the new memories start pouring in soon.

    Much peace, Casey

  31. Kim,

You will make this home special too, in time! When we were transferred from Atlanta to NJ a couple of years ago someone told me it takes about a year to make a house a home. I felt that to be pretty true in our case, it takes time. Your family will make wonderful memories in your new house, especially with the holidays approaching. As a sidenote, you need to be a interior decorator- you have got that "touch". YOur home is BEAUTIFUL, Wow- I'm so impressed. It looks straight out of a magazine. Take Care!

  35. Moving must be hard...we built our home, so it would hard to leave it. I can understand that...even though it is temporal and the things of this world will all fade away...it is still something we enjoy.

I will pray that your new home, which I am sure is beautiful with your decorating touches, we feel like home really soon!

I'd love to see pics of the new home sometime!

  36. soooo jealous you are going to kuhl linscomb...i just know your findings will be beautiful. hopefully you'll find a few things that will help the house feel more homey. that is the absolute hardest part of a new home, i think. yes, family is what makes a house a home (and you've proved this), but i firmly believe a homey house helps everyone settle in and adjust. hugs, friend.

  38. Change is hard...hang in there...many happy memories are on their way!

And remember to smile...there is research out there (facial feedback hypothesis) that proves you may actually be able to imporve your mood by simply smiling! I always share this research with my kids at school when they are having a rough day and it works every time! Just a little bit of psychology from one psychologist to another :)

  41. Oh Kim...Have you had time to really mourn leaving your home and life in VA? It seemed that you moved fairly quickly then you were so sick and were trying to help the peanuts adjust to the move and then...
Wham! A hurricane of all things! More unsettledness and another move and Harry being sick. My dear, I just think everything is catching up to you now that things are settling down. Take it one day at a time, friend. God is leading you through bit by bit and before you know it you will have pages upon pages of wonderful memories built in your beautiful new home! I am praying specifically for you over these next few weeks and know you will be feeling better soon!

  44. I know it must be so hard. Maybe after you spend the holidays in your new house, it will warm it up a bit. Of course, I love all the pictures of you last house! We have so much of the same tastes!! You asked about that mirror over the mantle and if there's a TV behind it. No, there isn't one. We already have that big tv over the keeping room mantle, so I didn't want to overdo it ;) Hope you're almost unpacked!!

I know exactly how you fell, I still miss our home in Greenville where Brady was born and memories were made, I drive by there a couple times a year and just sit in front of it and cry. I have a lovely home and we are making great memories in it, but I am still attached to our other home! Sending you big hugs and lots of love hope all the peanuts are doing well.
