Hurrication

Monday, September 15, 2008
THANK YOU so much for all of the kind and caring ways you all have reached out to us.  It has been a little tough but we are making the best of it.  We were already living out of suitcases and at a bare minimum for the past few weeks in our corporate apartment.  Then we quickly grabbed 2 days worth of clothes and made a run for it to escape Ike.  I am so glad that we did. We have turned this chaotic time into a mini vacation for the kids as best we could.  We moved to a nicer hotel, went to Sea World, visited the Riverwalk,  attended church and lunch and dinner with this sweet family and much more.   But now, we are all ready to go home and I think we will head that way tomorrow.  We are hoping we will have power!  Our plan is to stock up on groceries here (we bought some coolers) and hopefully we will have enough to get by until Houston is back on its feet.  I feel so lucky that we could get out and that we could stay out to avoid the aftermath.  My heart and my prayers go out to all those who lost so much.  I think our apartment is fine and I am thinking that there is certainly a reason we had not found a house yet.

Thank you Lisa and family.  You guys are incredible.  I am so glad that we were able to meet and I will post photos when I have time:)

We are calling this little adventure our "hurrication" (hurricane, evacuation and vacation).

  1. Great to hear from you and relieved that you are all doing fine. It sounds like you are making the best of a tough situation. Have a safe trip back to Houston!

  2. Kim, I am glad you guys left...a Mother's instinct was a live and well...thank the Lord. It ended up giving the boys most likely just what they needed...a breath of fresh air. Be careful driving back in to the city, looks like it really took a hard hit. I am also thankful you all haven't found a house yet...one last think to have had to worry about on Friday night/Saturday morning.
Continuing to pray for the 3 peanuts, Mommy & Daddy too.

  5. Safe travels back and hope you find everything is in good order. And good for you all to squeeze in another vacation ;)
Perhaps the storm will be the little nudge needed for the family now living in the home you are supposed to find.

  6. I am happy you are safe and sound. You have such a wonderful out look on life. Have a safe journey back to Houston. Yes I would have to agree...when you heard the words "wait" God knew...he always does. : )
We lived in NC for two years many years ago. We actually shopped for our house the day after Hurricane Hugo. We bought the one house with no damage. I'm happy you waited.

  7. So good that you can take something negative and turn it into something positive for your family.

There was definitely a reason for not purchasing a house yet.

    Blessings,
    Robin

  8. Kim,
I'm so glad you guys are ok and making the best of things. I have been thinking about you and I hope all is well when you get back to your apartment. Just think, aren't you so glad you didn't make an offer on a house yet? That would be just one more thing to worry about at this point.

    I'll tlak to you soon.

  9. I was thinking the same thing about you not locating the *perfect* house...that there was a reason! Can you imagine buying a house, and then having it flood???? Oh my!! Not fun at all!!!

Sadly, I am the queen of flooding. Ack!

Hang in there. Thinking of you every day!

You're right. Now you can look back and smile (a little) as to why you didn't yet have your beautiful house full of your beautiful possessions. God's timing is perfect, right?! Miss you guys and glad you are all together and doing well.

    Much love and continued prayers!

  16. Love the "hurrication" word!! Too cute. I hope you won't be without power for long. At least if you go back now, the food in the fridge won't be too terribly bad. That is always so much fun!! Next hurrication you have to head this way!! (hopefully you won't have another one for a LONG time!)

  37. Hi Kim, sorry I havent commented lastel, just been so busy. My kids are still dealing with hurricane issues. My daughter teaches in Lufkin and their school is closed, her home has no electricity and water and thats been hard with a baby. Thank goodness her inlaws live about an hour away so they have stayed there some. She and the baby are coming here tonight for a couple of days and I'm excited about that! My son and his wife live in Texarkana and they dont have electricity either. My hubby and I got the outer bands of the hurricane so we never lost power. You and your family have had a tough month dealing with moving, adjusting and then a hurricane. Your all in my thoughts! I'm glad you decided to leave when you did!! Take care!!
