Call me CRAZY....

Friday, September 5, 2008
We are having two fifth grade boys sleep over tonight in our two bedroom apartment. I pick them all up from school any minute now! Will wanted to invite two new buddies from school to spend the night and I agreed. Will and Harry will be on the floor and their guests will be in the twin beds. There will be seven of us in our cozy apt tonight. My game plan is to take everyone out for ice cream (or sorbet for us) after school and then to Blockbuster to pick a movie. I want to keep them out of the tiny apartment as long as possible. Then, Dave will take them to the pool while I order pizza.  We'll eat, they can watch a movie, play Legos, go to sleep and voila' it is morning! Wish me LUCK!

Legos in the Bathroom
This lego scene currently resides on the boys bathroom counter.  We are so squeezed for space that they take turns locking themselves in the bathroom with their Legos!

And of course, I thought it would only be fair to share another photo of one of the houses....

Old house Master Bath

This is the master bath (newly renovated) of the "older" house.  Oh my...it is even more breathtaking in person.  The current owners are taking those mirrors though...pity.  See! See why this decision is so hard?!

  1. I wonder if the apartment living was a good step to learning to live with a few less rooms?
Maybe the apartment space was a hidden blessing :D
The older home seems quite dreamy.
    Congrats either way though!!!

  4. Love it!!! I think they have those mirrors in Horchow so check it out if you get this house. Oh yeah and I wanted to tell you that they have some great mercury Christmas trees like the ones I found last year at Michaels of all places for like 20.00 can you believe it? Check it out.

  5. Okay, a few things. First of all, the kids will have a blast no matter how small the apartment is. Kids seem to think that's "neat"- I have no idea why, but they do! Then- I cracked up when I saw the Lego shot. I just updated my blog with pictures of Allison's little "scenes" throughout the house. Ha! And thirdly, for the record, I'm voting for the newer house. :) Have a GREAT weekend!

  6. Legos are the best! I am glad the boys are having fun and making friends. That bathroom! You have a tough decision to make, I am glad your are waiting. Which house would be the most FUN to decorate for the holidays?

  7. First off, that is one gorgeous bathroom! If I was house shopping, that would have had me sold already. Perhaps this time in the small apartment will help you decide whether or not the extra space is that high on your list of priorities. Good luck with the sleepover. It sounds like you are all starting to enjoy this new city.

  8. Hey, now there's your practical space in that old house: think of all the Legos that could fit on that bathroom floor!

Have fun with the sleepover. I bet you won't mind the crowd one bit knowing that Will is making some new friends. Hopefully they have nice moms who will appreciate your gesture and reach out to you.

Still praying for discernment for you on the house decision and for a feeling of peace and joy about your move.

  11. Dab, Dab...just mopping up the drool over the bathroom~! The boys could get some crazy lego going in that bath. I love that they are playing lego in the bathroom.

You are a terrific Mom to host a sleepover. I am sure it will work out wonderfully! Good Luck.

  12. The sleepover sounds like a lot of fun. The bathroom might just be the most beautiful I have ever seen. But I still say go for the space. I have three kids and I know how much space and storage they need. (I need a garage for the sporting equipment alone!)

  13. I think that's absolutely fabulous to let the boys have a sleepover. They do have mirrors like that at Horchow. You can also get Venetian mirrors at simplymirrors.com

  14. I'd still go for the old house. Remember, your kids are getting bigger and space is IMPORTANT for teenagers. Plus, a breakfast room is so nice. I love our breakfast room and eat-in kitchen, we had so many chats before and after school there. I miss my kids!
Good luck with the decision....I put in my vote!

  17. My do you have a decision-- I dont envy you having to make a choice like that. I totally understand what you mean about space. Having just the boys it was easy but as soon as we brought Mia home I totally wish we had more. Mia has toys everywhere and I just wish i had more space to live in. Our house is almost 3000 sq ft so it is not small, but it is just a little too small for our crazy family plus all the neighborhood friends. Honestly, if they would have gotten rid of the Living room (the extra room we never use) and given us a larger family room then I think we would feel differntly. Space is important but so is charm and curb appeal-- you have a hard choice but sometimes you have to sacrifice one for the better of the other-- maybe space will win out over charm or vice versa. Good luck!!!

By the way-- I hope your sleep over is as easy as it sounds. Good luck with that one as well.

    Christy :)

  27. Me thinks the lego people would be quite content in the "old" house's bathroom. Oh, the fun they could have there! ;)

  33. I am in love with these houses you are looking at. I could never find anything like those when I looked, and trust me, we looked at lots of housed.

My boys would do the same thing with their legos if the had to. It's amazing how even at 14, 11, and 7 they still love to build with them all the time.

  34. oh, the boys are making friends and adjusting really well now. great!

you are killing me with the houses. (i know..i know..it's killing you too!) they both are so beautiful! the "older" home bathroom is absolutely amazing...yeah, too bad they are taking those mirrors.

  38. Does the vanity chair stay?

    If so, buy the house.

    Spectacular!

  39. That bathroom is lovely! I hope the neighbors are far enough away from the view, if you get my drift ; )

Coming from someone who very recently moved from an 80-year old home to a McMansion (we didn't have any other options), I'd go with the old house. I love all the space we have now, but I miss the charm. I'm sure both are wonderful.

    Hope you survived the sleepover!

  40. Spent some time this morning catching up with your family. WOW, you have had some busy months please know that I will commit to pray for your continued transition and settling into your new place and for the decisions about your new house. All the pictures are just gorgegous but I can attest to the fact that a home has to function well for a family. We too are settling into our new place and new way of life so I can relate to your feelings of getting used to a new environment. Change is always so difficult. Hang in there sweetie! Hope the boys had fun at their sleep over.

  41. How did the sleepover go? Hope there was lots of *sleeping* for everyone at your apartment!

    I have gotten so immersed in your blog that as I take walks in my neighborhood now, I think, "Oh, Kim might like that house!" when I see a traditional home with a 'for sale' sign. Can you talk Dave into moving to Dallas? There are several houses in University Park that I think would suit your taste and your family's needs. {smile}

    Have a great weekend.

  42. Hope the sleepover went well. You are a great mom. Oh, that bathroom is beautiful! I keep checking your blog to see if you've made a decision. One of the houses will speak to you, and it will feel like home. You'll realize what is meant to be for your family.

  43. Hope you had a good night with the boys :O) You are such a caring Mom to do this for your boys. Sounds like it is just what they need.

That photo of the master bath is wonderful. I love all the detail, can the red chair stay :O)

    Take care, Michele

  44. Hope the sleepover was a success. I would have done the same thing - what a treat for the boys after such a big change in their lives. Okay my son just walked by when I had your post up and he ran over and pointed out that he had 2 of the guys in your pic and he wanted something else he saw - yikes. He is in the process today of building the AT-TE Walker. He just loves legos - he keeps his 130 lego men (most recent count :) in a box that travels with us. Good luck with the house hunting - that bathroom is stunning!

  46. You are not crazy -- you are "Making Memories" with your kids. Someday you'll talk about the time when you were living in a 2-bedroom apartment and had a sleepover and what fun that was!

I can definitely see why you are having a difficult time deciding between houses. This is the most beautiful bathroom I've ever seen!

  47. You and Dave win the parenting award for being good sports! How amazing to have two friends sleep over. How amazingly good for your boys.

  49. Now I love the old house again!! I can only imagine how hard this decision is to make. I will say that I really like the home we live in now, but there is not enough space for all of us. That is really our only reason for building a house just down the street. We will actually be only a few houses down. So I am still thinking that you may want more space.
I hope you all had a great evening last night.
    Hugs,
    Chesnye
