Mon petit chou

Wednesday, April 25, 2012
My sweet little Kate has recently been fascinated with Paris.  She told me a few months ago she did not want to go to college because she thought it would be too noisy.  She quickly told me she will go to Paris instead and then asked me if it was very noisy there.  She literally dreams of me taking her to Paris someday.

So, a few months ago Dave was on business in France and brought back some goodies for Kate.  She LOVED the berets and the scarf and the macaroons that Dave bought back from his trip.

She has become quite a little francophile.  At the time we were trying to plan Kate's birthday party theme.  And viola...the idea came to us...

SPRINGTIME IN PARIS!

So, we started looking for inspiration....

{I bought this banner and the invitations and cupcake pics from Icing Designs on esty. They were GREAT to work with and they had exactly the look I was searching for.}

And here we are.  The party is this weekend even though Kate's birthday is in June.  We have such a busy May and June that we decided to do it early before people leave for summer vacation.  Here is a sneak peek....

I made the Ooh La La banner and a Joyeux Anniversaire banner too!

More to come....I need to get back to decorating:) Au Revoir!

Several people have commented or e-mailed to asked how I hang these from the ceiling....
I use small clear 3m command hooks and clear fishing line:)  Make sure you read the directions for the hooks and they will leave no marks.

  6. Ooooh! How pretty! It looks like you had a lot of fun decorating, and it looks like the birthday girl is thrilled.

May I ask, how did you hang the beautiful lanterns from the ceiling? My daughter's communion is next weekend, and while I have made nine white puffy decorations to hang from the ceiling, I am not sure how to do so! Would love to know your method...

As an aside, my daughter has a dimple on the left side, too!

    1. Jeannine,

Thank you. I use clear fishing line and 3m command strips. I get the tiny clear ones and you can barely see them. the hild the weight and do not mark your paint when you take them done properly. Make sure you follow the instructions though:) I hope your daughter's communion is very special. it is also my nephew's 1st communion:)

    2. Thank you, Kim! I never thought to put those command things on the ceiling. Clever! I have already done up the poufs with white satin ribbon, though, so I will see how that looks.

A blessed first communion to your nephew...

And a blessed first communion to your nephew. It's a very special time. I am trying to *enjoy* the preparations and not come undone by them! I made my daughter's dress and posted it, if you want to take a peek...

  7. What a beautiful theme for a girls birthday party and might I say she looks quite the part of the seasonsed and savvy Francophile? She is too cute and I think a trip to Paris should be in her future Mom so she can sport those berets where they belong (she looks mighty cute in them)!

I found this site today and thought you may find use for them in the future. They are here in Houston. 22. we are totally Francophile's here too!!!!!! LOVE all the decorations---and those invitations are adorable!!!!!! I had a Parisian party a few years ago and got this GIANT cooper Eiffel Tower cookie cutter from William Sonoma---I know it is too short of notice and don't even know if they still sell/make it---but it would be perfect for your party--I wish I lived closer so you could borrow it :(!!! Can't wait to see the party pictures!
also--one silly question--what do you use to attach the pompoms to the ceiling that does not damage the paint? Have been wanting to try that but have been reluctant as I know my husband would have a fit if the paint got damaged!

Have a great party--Sunday is our daughter's 9th birthday--the time goes by so fast--seems like just yesterday she was turning 6!

    1. Hi Barbarann,

A few people have asked this...I use clear fishing line and 3m command hooks. If you follow the directions, they come off without any damage to the paint. I did not follow the directions the first time and had one mark.

Oh that cookie cutter would have been perfect!!!! Hope your daughter has a great birthday!!!

      Have a great weekend.

  25. Can you tell me how you hang the balls from the ceiling? I was thinking of doing something like this for our little ones first birthday once we are home with her from China! We have a smooth ceiling like yours and I don't know what to use without leaving marks etc... Thank You!!!

  27. Tell that precious Miss Kate that I love Paris too! Her party is about the cutest thing I've ever seen! Quite fitting for such an adorable little girl.

I was looking at pictures from your visit the other day and was astounded at how much Dots and your Will have grown since then! I'd say we're overdue to see each other again. Vivian and I will be in Houston for Mother's Day. Will you be around that weekend?
