Do you know where Djibouti is?

Thursday, May 26, 2011
I didn't but Will does!  And that is why he won a Geography Award last night at his school. Will placed second in the whole school in the Geography Bee and first in his grade. I am not sure where he gets his knowledge of World Geography but it amazes us. By the way, Djibouti (pronounced Jabooty) is in Africa. Will loves to tell us all about Djibouti because we giggle at the name.

{He is smart AND handsome:)}

I am so proud of Will.  He also won an award for Science last night.  I did not get a photo of him at the ceremony as we were too far away and he was too "cool" for one afterwards (middle schoolers!).

And just to brag about Will a bit more...he was chosen for an awesome internship position this summer.  The art, science, health museums and the zoo in our city have teen programs that are very competitive.  They are volunteer internships where the teens can be docents or camp counselors, etc.  Will has had his hopes set on one of these programs since he was a little guy going to summer camp there.  He applied last Spring with over 700 local teens and he was chosen to be an assistant camp counselor.  He is really excited to work with the young kids.  We are really proud of his spirit of volunteerism and responsibility.

  1. I have been reading your blog for ... hmmm... maybe a month or two? Not sure. I think this is my first comment. I absolutely adore your blog. Your kindness and thoughtfulness shine through every post, and I am inspired by how many commitments you balance. Please don't every stop blogging! This post really touched me. Prayers for your sweet boy as he completes his testing. Your family is beautiful (and, on a shallow note, so is your home!). Thanks for sharing your life with your readers!

  6. Yes, I know where it is, only because a friend of mine's husband was deported there for a year. Ha! But in reality, can't find my way out of a paper bag, so I totally admire people who know a lot about geography!! :) Congrats to Will on all his accomplishments!! And thank you for sharing them. Mama pride is a good thing. :)

  7. I agree with Betsey - think I have been reading for a couple of years though! Loved the party for Harry - brought tears to my eyes. I hope all works out for him with his health issues. Good for Will too! He must be so excited about his upcoming internship. Keep posting because I love reading your blog!

  10. You are just great !! All two parties were so nice and the pictures just show it. Please tell Will that here in Brasil we also have so many cities with funny names,too. Guararema, Pindamonhangaba,Itaquaquecetuba, sounds like tongue twisters but they really are city names.

  13. I have my own Will, although he is just about 15 months old...he is very special, too! :)

    I hope this doesn't sound strange, and I wouldn't want you to share it with your Will if it would embarrass him, but his eyelashes are just so, so unfair! ;P I think that every time I see your boys! They're so dark, they practically look like he's got some natural "eyeliner" going on. Ugh! I can't achieve that look even with the telescopic mascara you recommend and various others I've tried, and am way too uncoordinated to use falsies. Oh well :)

    Anyway, yay Will! All of the other recent posts have been awesome, too! Love the gluten/dairy party for Harry and Kate's ballet party was just gorgeous! :)

  14. Emsie,

    Thank you ad yes, Will has amazing eye lashes. I always think he looks like he has eye liner on in photos too and I do not edit them or do anything to them in photoshop. He just has beautiful eyes and lashes. He gets that from Dave:)
