Four Years

Friday, April 1, 2011
This week marks four years since Kate joined our family.  Dave and Will got Kate on March 26, 2007 and she came home on April 4th.  We remember the day as our forever family day on April 4th.  We have vacillated over the years in how we should honor this day.  The main thing is we tell her how happy we are that she is our family and we thank God for bringing her to us. Kate loves to watch this video too and hear about her adoption story.

She is the most incredible blessing to our family.  She makes us laugh every day!  Every year, I post this video that I made about Kate's homecoming.  And then on Monday, I will probably post a letter to her and some photos.  Have a great weekend!

There is a typo in the video.  Dave and I were married in 1995 not 1997.  I made this on a PC and now have a MAC so I cannot fix it.  Also, in the video of Dave getting Kate, he is on the phone with me.  I could not go to China but I was on the phone when he got her:)

And yes, if you read my lips when we were looking at her referral photo for the first time (in the beginning) I said, "she is so fat!"  I was frankly shocked. I was so accustomed to seeing referral photos of skinny and sickly looking babies from China and Kate was so plump and healthy looking so I was very surprised. I am kind of embarrassed that those were the first words out of my mouth (I am so not perfect) but I feel incredibly blessed that she was so well cared for.

  1. I think I watched this last year and again, I am crying. I love when Will pats her cheeks when she is fist handed over to Dave. And the fact that Dave got bows in her hair! Did you teach him before he left? Love it.

  24. This was my first time to see this ... I hope to see it next year too and the year after that ... I wish I had adopted too but you never heard of anyone doing that when I was your age ... so very special ... of course I'm too old for that now ... Kate Emerson is so lucky to have you all as her family and you all to have her ... she looked so much smaller after that suit came off ... they must keep their babies really bundled up? ... PS. I have a grandaughter named Emerson (4 years too) ... love that name ... thanks for your blog ... sometimes I think I am peeping since I don't know you all personally ... I do get over it because I enjoy it so much ... thanks for all the hard work that keeps us wanting to come back to your blog ... Happy day!

  25. Yep Im another one that had tears in my eyes watching this. I agree with the comments about the bow in the hair- how gorgeous that a Dad would be so loving and caring!! The thing that comes across is the love of family and how the boys were so excited and loving. You all have such large hearts and are indeed blessed that you are a family! Dave seems to be a man with a beautiful heart and this is seen in the family. Thank you for sharing such a special event as I feel blessed to see something that is so precious in a family's life.
