Thankful Thursday

It has been quite a week! I am thankful...

DSC_0063

~for this adroable miniature ladybug teapot that my friend, Amber gave me and Kate. She bought the last one and I have looked everywhere (and on-line) for another to send a certain good friend of mine.

~to several people who nominated me in the past week for the Daily Dose and Blogging with a Purpose awards. I am so deeply touched by each nomination. Words escape me. Because I was distracted with major health issues this week (see below), I was unable to list my nominations and now almost everyone I know has been named. I love all of you guys and would nominate each and every one of you:)

~ that it appears as though Kate does NOT have TB. Kate had a positive skin test for TB so we had to have a chest x-ray. She definitely does not have active TB and it is unlikely she has latent TB. Nonetheless this has been stressful. Apparently, the treatment is really tough. I only post this here because I did not know that sometimes babies adopted from China will get a positive skin test based on an immunization they receive in China. My doctor did know that but apparently there are conflicting professional opinions on whether it really renders the test unreliable. Those of you waiting to adopt might want to tuck this away in case you need it down the road. Apparently there is a brand new blood test that is not clouded by the prior immunization and we will have that done soon.

~I had a difficult medical test this week also and had a severely negative reaction to the medication. I am so thankful however that just moments ago the doctor called to tell me that the pathology report was benign!!! Thank you, God! And thanks to those who prayed for me:)

~that one of my neighbors (Bonnie) rescued me and Kate this morning! It began snowing and I realized we needed some things from the store so Kate and I set out to get them. I grew up in PA and I know how to drive in a little snow so I was not worried. However, my car got stuck in the middle of the road in my neighborhood. About 50 of my neighbors whizzed past me fishtailing and giving me unkind looks as I sat there crying in the middle of the road. I was so afraid that Kate and I would get hit. I still cannot believe how many people just drove by and did not offer to help in any way. Finally, my kind neighbor saw it was me, backed up and drove me and Kate home. I am so thankful to her but so disappointed in the lack of neighborly love.

~that my sweet husband left work to come and rescue us even though we had already been rescued!

~I am incredibly thankful for a message
Nikki sent me this week. She sent me this devotional:

Come to me and rest in my loving presence. You know that this day will bring difficulties, and you are trying to think your way through those trials. As you anticipate what is ahead of you, you forget that I am with you - now and always. Rehearsing your troubles results in experiencing them many times, whereas you are meant to go through them only when they actually occur. Do not multiply your suffering in this way! Instead, come to me and relax in my peace. I will strengthen you and prepare you for this day, transforming your fear into confident trust. (Matthew 11:28-30; Joshua 1:5, 9)

I do not know Nikki that well (only through the blogs) but I needed that exact message this week. There were several things I was worrying about. I cannot even express in words how much it helped me. Ironically, I had another friend who needed it and I passed it along to her. God works in wondrous ways! Thank you Nikki!

~that American Idol has begun! This is really the only TV show my dear husband will watch with me. Whenever it is on, it is like our little date. I am thankful that the judges are being kinder and gentler this season too.

  1. I'm sorry that you got stuck, but if you hadn't maybe your neighbor wouldn't have had the blessing of helping someone. I'm sorry you had a bad test but if you hadn't there are people who wouldn't have had the blessing of praying for you. I'm very thankful that your little blessing Kate doesn't have TB!! God is good!!I'm thankful for friends that send other friends scripture that they need.
See you too, made me thankful!

  2. I sat crying thru this post, Kim. You DID have one heck of a week - I am just SO thankful that both you and Kate had good reports from the Dr. and I am also glad that at least one kind-hearted neighbor still exists and rescued you!

I'm happy that I was able to be there for you, too...funny how God brought us together, isn't it?
I LOVE your thankful Thursday posts - always a reminder that we need to take time to be thankful.

  6. Kim -

I am so sorry that you had a negative reaction...the meds are so much better than they used to be. I hope you are feeling better.

Thank goodness Miss Katie Ru is cleared. Very happy news - I know the owrry is astronomical about these things (hmmm, I am a worrier too!)

And your neighbor - what a sweet neighbor. I'm sorry about the other 50 who did not have the time or consideration to be kind. It is a lesson to all of us to how our actions can impact others.

It has been quite a week, but the loyalty of the Lord is evident. Sharing your thanksgivings with you.

    Love,

  9. Praising God with you for answered prayer this week. That devotional was incredibly moving and appropriate. I'm going to save that one! I've been thinking about your test results all day, and was thrilled when I got home and checked the computer to see that the results were good! What an answer to prayer. I'm also glad to hear that Miss Kate is fine as well. I'll be praying that the rest of the week is better for you.

  12. I am so sorry you have not had a very good week. However, I am thankful that God sent someone to rescue you so that you and precious Kate could get out of danger. It is neat hearing how the devotional spoke to your heart and how it was exactly what you needed. I am doing the same devotional as Nikki and I remember reading those words recently. I, too, so desperately needed it that day as well. God is good and He takes care of our every need.
I will be on the lookout for that precious ladybug teapot and let you know if I see it anywhere. I am a huge collector of teapots and I really love that one. :)
Also, praise the Lord that your tests came back benign. That is awesome. Thanks for the heads up about the TB deal also. Glad everything is okay.

  21. Kim-

I am so so sorry to read all that you have been going through recently- and amazed that your Faith has brought you to bringing them to your Thankful Thursday list and seeing the silver lining and that things have come out ok for both of you.

I am so sad to picture you and Kate in the car together and you crying. I cannot beleive all of these people passed you.

I am having a horrible time now as well- thankfully none of it is health which means that this too shall pass. I am at a major crossroads with multiple serious decisions - I was crying on the phone tonight to my mother and she was in tears hearing me- I needed that passage so badly- that I have now cried for 3 different reasons on reading your post today. 1- for all that you have gone through and the fear and finally the releive- 2- you in the car with kate and 3) the realization at the end that it all is going to be ok.

I am not familiar with the awards you mentioned- but all I can say is blogging with a purpose could not be more true- I have often felt God uses you as a messenger with your blog-

I prayed one night that my blog would become less superficial and more meaningful to me and I would find people with substance- you and Lori found my blog within 2 days- and you both have affected me and touched my life.

I so wish Kate could come over for a playdate- with you- or we could get together for dinners like you said on my blog today.

Sending you all warmest wishes for a restful weekend of peace and love after your week.

    Fondly,

    Anne

  24. As I was reading your devotional the song "Be Still and Know That I am God" by Steven Curtis Chapman just started from my Ipod mix... God's timing is ALWAYS perfect. I am so glad that you got good news today! It always amazes me how trials like what you went through this week, bring us closer to Him!.. The blessing in the tough weeks is that! So until we have time to connect, be still and enjoy that beautiful snow you have. On a side note, what is up with the neighbors? A good Minnesotan would never leave you stranded... Sorry about that! Hugs, Diana

I'm going to tuck away the information about the TB test. We are LID 12/14/07--and on a special needs list with our agency. Hope I won't need the information about the TB test...but glad to have it for just in case!
Praying that your weekend is a super blessed one....you deserve only happiness this weekend! Sorry that this past week was such a rough one for you!
    Blessings!

  36. Kim,
Oh girl, I had no idea that you were going through all of these things. I am so glad to hear that everything turned out ok.
You know that we would pray for you.
    Nikki is a dear friend.
And I can't believe that only one person stopped to help you. I know how scarey it can be when you feel defenseless in a possibly dangerous situation.
I hope that this weekend is relaxing for you.
    Sending peaceful vibes your way.

  37. Bummer on the getting stuck. Thank goodness you have one nice neighbor! Your pictures are lovely.
There is nothing wrong with desires of perfection as long as they are actually based in reality. We have a family room that is our comfort zone. My OCD pretty much rules most of the house, but then, my kids are grown and gone.
Gotta love Kate reading the magazine...and running the vacuum!
    And such a blessed scripture.
BTW- you deserve the awards!!!! Your blog is inspirational.

  38. Oh, Kim, I am so sorry that you have been going through so much. I am so glad that that Kate doesn't have TB. When Nicholas came home they had him on the treatment for it just be safe. We talked with the DR and he was healthy and we took him off of it. Good for the neighbor that helped you and Kate... shame on all the rest of them. But Jesus kept you safe. I am so glad your report came back negative... I can't imagine how hard this must have been for you.
    Thank You Jesus!
On a lighter note..... you have become an incredible photographer... your photos look professional. The last shot looks like an Ansel Adams.
God Bless you friend. You are in my prayers and please know if I can ever help in any way at all I am here for you.
    Love,
    Daleea
