My pebble puppy

Tuesday, September 25, 2007
It was a beautiful morning and Kate was in a playful and smiling mood so I dressed her in her Baptism dress and decided to try to get some pretty photos. Well, these are the duds! I got several (25) of the top of her head. She LOVES rocks and pebbles and spent most of the time picking them up and showing them to me. To explain the post title...novice geologists are commonly called "pebble puppies." I used to think my boys loved rocks because their Dad, Grandad and Great Uncle were all geologists. I thought it was "in their blood." Now, I am thinking all little kids like rocks?

"I am just going to close my eyes and pretend that you aren't there Mom!"

Or I will run away if you won't let me play with the pebbles!

Oh, I think there is a little pebble stuck in here.

Forget it Mom, I am not going to look at you!

  1. oh I know! It is not easy to get good photos with our little busy girls! Caitlyn is the exact smae way! It is truly a workout to get a photoshoot with her.
I hope Kate is sleeping better.

  6. Phew...I thought I was the only one who has to work hard to catch the "perfect" shot. I have almost been driven to insanity trying to capture some cute or artistic pictures of Lindy. She is soooooo uncooperative. For your sake, I hope Kate isn't working into that stage, too. However, no matter what, she looks precious.

    Have a lovely day!

  7. I definitely know the feeling of trying to get good pictures! Jake and I went out with our dog to try and get some good pictures and it was so hard to get a picture of all of us looking at the camera, let alone a good one. I think there have only been a few times ever in my life that I have actually had a "Kodak Moment" in front of me and actually had a camera. Anyway, her dress is adorable!! I just love those little white dresses! Two of my cousins will be making their First Communion in the Spring and I can't wait to see their gorgeous little dresses! Kate is so adorable! :)

  8. Even though you are calling these pictures duds, they are adorable! It captures what we all go through to get the "good ones."

  9. I know all kids love rocks, but I love that her Daddy is a geologist and she was fascinated by the pebbles. She was meant to be your daughter :D She looks darling in her dress.

  10. These pictures of Kate are so cute.....their personalities truly develop at an early age! Sophie loves rocks, leaves, feathers, sticks...about anything outside....I think it must be a "kid" thing.....forget the toys....nature is all they want sometimes! :)

BTW...she looks adorable (as always) in her pretty white dress!

  11. Oh how I know the feeling! I take hundreds of pictures to get a few that I love! I love that you captured Kate just being Kate! Love the dress! So funny about the rocks, I think all little kids love rocks, hmmm, sounds like the boys have a legacy to live up to :)

  12. Too funny. I know I've said it before but she's just so cute.

Thank you so much for the talk today. You are such a wonderful friend, and I appreciate all your support and advice.

Please tell Harry it was a pleasure speaking with him. He is so polite and he has the cutest voice I have ever heard. Then again, Kate's "hi" was pretty cute too.

The top picture of Kate picking stones looks natural...not a dud at all!!

Jade is a rock collector too. She likes the sparkly one and the ones that "write"

  21. I am starting to think that Ruby and Kate have a direct line to each other. Every time I take out my camera now she looks the other way. She got her haircut today and I could barely get a pic of her. What happened to our little super models? Oh well, even on a bad photo day Kate looks gorgeous!!! Where was that photo shoot? Beautiful spot!
    Take care!

  22. Kim,
What beautiful photos! They're all lovely. (This is something I would totally do with my daughter and love it! I'm taking some of the boys in a few week, but I can't put those sweet baby clothes on them anymore!)
Kate looks so pretty and it's great that you can use that gorgeous dress again, it looks so pretty against the pebbles.
She's the most beautiful "pebble puppy" I've ever seen!! :)

ps I think it is in her "genes", somehow God worked that one out. :)

  24. Oh, and don't forget acorns. Jeremy made a pocket out of his shirt and collected every acorn on the walk home from school today!

But Katie and the dress are still beautiful!

    Hope all is well
