Poem

I know that most you who read here are Moms and I thought you might enjoy this poem. I LOVE this frame and it sums up exactly how I felt about Kate coming home to our family. It says," You are the poem I dreamed of writing ..the masterpiece I longed to paint. You are the shining star I reached for in my ever hopeful quest for life fulfilled. You are my child. Now with all things I am blessed." Isn't that amazing? The photo does not do it justice but it looks incredible in her room. It looks much better if you click on it to enlarge. ADDED: Several people have asked who makes this. It is made by Sugarboo Designs and you can customize the quote and color. They have a variety of really beautiful verses that would be great for children, weddings, family etc. I got mine at Williams and Sherrill in Richmond, VA. So, this is what my little blessing is up to now. She loves to push this thing around and she climbs completely up the stairs. She is constantly on the go!

I match my crib bedding & Thankful Thursday

I think I truly have gone off the deep end. Kate probably has enough dresses (can a girl ever have too many though?). However, when I saw this dress in a local boutique I could not resist. It is the same material that was used to make her bedding.

A fellow blogger hosts "Thankful Thursdays" where we write what we are thankful for. I am participating this week:

~I am thankful that my almost 10 year old son still gets so excited about a school field trip (to the zoo) that he cannot fall asleep.

~I am thankful that my wonderful husband is cleaning the kitchen tonight while I blog.

~I am thankful for my sweet, affectionate loving daughter. She amazes me every single day. I love her so much that it brings me to tears sometimes.

~I am thankful for really fresh, clean air that we breathe in our little town.

~I am thankful that Harry is finally is starting to be sweet again. He was definitely having "adjustment issues" since Kate came home.

~I am so thankful that the CCAA matched us with our Kate and so thankful that her foster Mom taught her how to hug and love and kiss. She has so much love to give. It was obvious she was loved before.

We finally got these beautiful letters hung above Kate Emerson's crib! My sister, Dawn (aka Aunt Dooney) gave them to us at Kate's shower. They had ribbons but we liked how they hung better without the ribbons. They have a pink floral background which looks great with the damask print painted on the walls. Thanks again Aunt Dooney, Uncle Moon and Ashton:)

The Nursery

I was so excited to finally have a girl's room to decorate. I loved doing the boys' baby rooms but the opportunity to do something girly was so much fun!

I am now working on her bathroom.

Her crib bedding is pink toile on the outside of the bumper pads and white popcorn chenille on the inside. The dust ruffle is a pink gingham with daisies at the border. This is the crib that Will and Harry both used. It even has their teeth marks on it.

Dave and our good friend, Rob hung this chandelier. Rob's wife and I were in DC Christmas shopping and looking at the White House Christmas decorations. They were in charge of five kids that day. Way to go Dads!

I bought this cabinet right after we moved here (2 and 1/2 years ago) and knew it would look adorable in her room. I hope to fill it with special keepsakes. It is cuter in person.

This Aubusson Rug is what I have always pictured in my daughter's room. I found it while shopping a few weeks ago with my friend, Cathy. It has pretty shades of green, cream, and pink in it.

My Mom and I saw this doll when I was home in PA at Christmas and my Mom bought it. She is a Chinese babydoll and our little girl's first doll! Santa brought the doll cradle and bedding for Christmas.

A basket of books on the nightstand. I hope she enjoys reading as much as the rest of us do.

Ladybugs are a good luck symbol in Chinese adoption so I was so excited when I found this pink and green ladybug night light! It was cute, had meaning and fit into my decorating scheme. Red and black just would not have matched!



I re-painted the antique dresser a French Grey color with a light white colorwash over it. I also painted the antique mirror. I found it at an auction well over a year ago. The glass is silvered and distorted from age.
